East-West Shrine Game Thread

Recommended Posts

Mostly known as the mid to late round draft pick bowl, but there are always gems in this game. I've read through most of the practice notes from this week and have my eye on some players from both sides. According to some reports, the OL group today is super weak and the DL group should be wreaking havoc and making money today.  One of my favorite WRs in this class, LaMarkus Dodge will be showcasing his skills as well. I'll try and relay some of the things I see today.

Rypien with a dime. Looked good on the drive with his timing routes.

Yeah Rypien looked good. He was getting the ball out quick and on time. Let's see if Blough can answer.

Make sure you add RB TY Johnson of Maryland. I thought he looked pretty solid this season and again looked solid on the last drive.

Easton Stick continues to struggle this week. He may have talked teams out of taking him with a late pick. He looks like a guy who is thinking way too much, and is not comfortable at all.

Maybe he will get a couple of more drives to get something going. He is running out of opportunities though.

Practice reports said he had a very bad week. And I think you're right about not being drafted.

Totally forgot this game was happening today. How did David Blough look? I don't expect him to get drafted, but he had a heck of a year.

Blough looked very good. He exceeded my exceptions. Probably a late round draft prospect or UDFA, but I think he is going to get a shot in an NFL camp. I could see him making a practice squad.

Martez Ivey is a statue at OT. Dude goes from 5 Star recruit to late round pick at best.

That's why the star system is flawed. Jerry Tillery, TeVon Coney, and Julian Love...none were 5 stars. Heck, Q Nelson was a 4 star, and he's an absolute monster. It's a bunch of old dudes that do their best to determine whether a player will pan out or not. I'd say there's just as many 5-star busts as there are 3 and 4 stars that turn out to be great NFL players. Nelson was rated by ESPN (a joke, I know) as the 10th best player at his position lol, and according to them there were 154 players better overall. Rivals had him at like 14 or 15, so they at least tried to get it right, but the 247 Composite was still way off at #54 overall.
