Gary Kubiak to Minnesota

Recommended Posts

He will be called an 'offensive consultant'…

Two coaches who have work with him as a head coach line coach Gary Dennison and tight end coach Brian Pariani will come with him

.....and Kubiak's son will be the QB coach.

Interesting......Clearly the Vikings want to use the run more....and pass off play action..roll outs..... that's Kubiak.

Offensive consultant must be like a 2nd string offensive coordinator. What then are 3rd stringers called? Offensive waterboys?

I have not seen any Gary Dennison connected to the Vikings. Did you mean Rick Dennison? I have not seen him associated with the Vikings, but maybe you're right. I have not read that we have hired an OL coach.

I so wanted Mike Munchak as OL coach.

Wasn't Gary Danielson a QB for the Lions :funny:. Kubiak has a good Offensive mind.

I just have the weird feeling that Gary Kubiak will hold back Kevin Stefanski. It is almost like Zimmer has deputed a guy that "could be" looking over Kevin's shoulder indirectly by having the ear of Zimmer. Gary Kubiak's ideas forced Peyton's offense that he was used to, to take a backseat and made the impact of Peyton's noodle arm worse, IMO, and if not for Wade Philips' D, that regular season success would not have happened. Kubiak's ideas were rejected in Denver by the new hire Vic Fangio, and that is why he is in Minnesota. Vic saw the new ideas Matt Nagy brought to the table and wasn't on board with Kubiak's vision playing out. Hope Zimmer realizes that.

He wants to institute ZBS like the Rams do and let Cousins do rollouts like the Rams do for play action passing, and do shotgun as necessary.  I just am not sure if the Vikings have the O-line for it like the Rams do, and Cook is no Gurley either.

Minnesota was one of the more disappointing teams this season. The talent is there on both sides of the ball and Cousins is a better QB than Keenum but something is missing. Maybe it is the overall Coaching that made this team underachieve?

The "overall coaching" was great for Case Keenum. We went 13-3 with Case. Cousins was supposed to be an upgrade from Case and he failed to produce when needed (same as he has in previous years).

Cousins is the problem. The guy puts up big numbers but when needed, he does not step up. He is similar to Blake Bortles but without all the INTs.

If Cousins is the problem in your eyes than the Vikings need to find the right OC for him because you guys are stuck with him for a while. I would get with Cousins and see what system works best for him.

^^^ That is true for any QB.

Thankfully, we have him for only 2 more years.

Rick Dennison has followed through his coaching career.  He was with him in Houston and in Denver. He is said to be going to Minnesota

What they call coaches has been changing,  The Vikings had two O-line coaches last year apparently and that may not have worked so well.

Kubiak has always favored the roll out play action pass scheme. Slow developing plays that get the Q out of the pocket and give the RB  options....

stretch runs' they used to call them.

Its not a modern style ..its 1990s..ball control .stuff....

But I'm not saying it wont work...The Vikings threw the ball a ton last year. The goal is to pass less and enjoy it more...

The part I dont get is Kubiak's son coaching Kirk Cousins. I'm not sure what that's about.

Don't give up on Cousins.  He's just been there one year. You've said more than once that we shouldnt judge a new QB on one season....

...I still have hopes for Case down in Denver....

Everything went wrong for him....They were 6-6 and lost their last 4.

Case and the left tackle were the only Broncos offensive players who started and played every game...  Denver will draft a QB but Case will start in the fall

Leadership was not Case's problem....His teammates were with him. I just think the offense was very predictable and hey had to many rookies on the field to win a lot

Chad,

I think you may be right. Elway said Fangio could do what he wanted./.

Fangio respected Kubiak but he didnt want Kubiak's line coach and his son...

You make a better point about what Fangio saw in the Bears offense.

Elway commented a lot on the KC offense ...

Denver had 3 rookie WRs and 2 rookie RBs.....I think he agreed with Fangio that....lots of motion, shifting and lateral movement is much harder to defend in an ear when you cant hold the receivers like the patriots like to do.  But you have to bring it in with young players.

Phillip Lindsey runa a 4.3.....and he ran for 1,000 yards in 15 games even though they ran him off tackle like he was Terrell Davis and it was 1998.

They haven't had an offense since Peyton left because John Fox just let Peyton install his own offense..

I think Denver will look much different on offense next season with the new OC from LA.

Elway should have hired Shanahan 2 years ago when he hired Vance Joseph/ Those were the final 2 candidates. It was a mistake and he, suprisingly,. said so publically last week.

Wrong choice. Wrong guy.

Fangio will have that defense in the Top-10 next year because they have a solid core of players on that side of the ball

.

Cousins is not a new QB. You may be referring to my last comment about Lamar Jackson. There is no comparison. Jackson is a rookie. Cousins is a veteran.

Doesnt matter. There is a comparison because it was his first year there.

You cant judge Kirk as a Viking based in part on what he did in Washington

Just like I'm not judging Case on what he did in Houston and Minnesota

It was his first year in Denver...It was mediocre but there were circumstances.

You improve the most in a situation in your second year in it...

Don't write him off after one season. Your words and you were right
