At some point, the end is going to happen. If he comes back, I still say we draft a kicker. Just to have already in the fold and one that can learn under him

You don't carry two kickers on the roster. If you draft a kicker most likely won't go on the practice squad as some other team will grab him

How about a compromise where he comes back in a capacity similar to Robert Mathis’ after his playing days were over?

I fully realize the value he brings to the locker room.  But I simply don’t have the confidence in him that I long did.  And that was true prior to the KC debacle.  Maybe Ballard feels differently and, well, his opinion matters everything and mine matters none.

I trust Ballard to make the best decision for the horseshoe.

The guy has been playing an NFL schedule for two decades...I wouldn't be surprised if he would want a few years off that rigorous schedule.

Seems destined for the booth. I bet he could do what Jay Feely does.

I don't think people realize how many Cody Parky's there are right now out there. We should want AV back, despite the poor game and his age. He was very good this year, even kicking through a groin injury (use your imagination). I think he can still do it and to be honest, I think he's got the craft down, where as long as he's mentally into it, he's going to be able to do it- within a degree of reason of course, he's clearly closer to the end than not.

They'll bring in a camp leg, like they usually do. If that guy is reasonably good, maybe they can get him on the practice squad.

Any kicker good enough to hold on the PS is likely going to be signed by another team by seasons end. When you are looking at FA kickers that’s the first place you start.

The situation with him in essence being there waitibg ro rakw over wlhkd make him even ale him even more likely to get plucked by another team. That’s essentially saying “he’s worth a roster spot the second Vinny is gone.”

Those usually don't last. The Panthers for example tried to stash Butker on their practice squad but the Chiefs(a team with exceptional special teams coach) snatched him almost immediately. There are way too many teams in kicker purgatory every year. If they see you are using a roster spot(even if on the practice squad) for additional kicker they will know he's good and they will sign him.

Oh Sanchez is a kicker too?

You aren't insinuating that Punters do not "kick" the ball are you?  lol.   Kickers and Punters are both referred to as kicking "specialists" often enough that most anyone who gives it more than a seconds thought knows what someone means when they refer to teams almost universally carrying 2 kickers.....  c'mon maaan

I said a while back, he's earned enough goodwill in my book, I'd keep him until he proves he doesn't belong.  You're playing a little russian roulette the longer you keep him on the field, but still...One of the few guys I've ever said that about and fully acknowledge that's not smart team management.  Meh, that's why I'm not in an NFL's FO.  Still don't care lol.

Well since we are talking about Vinny, I was simply Speaking in the since of FGs as that’s all he does now

Hard to see them keeping a kicker on the practice squad.

REALLY hard to see them keeping an understudy on the active roster.

If he wants to come back sign him and bring him back.  Bring in another kicker to compete and if he clearly wins the job you can trade Adam to an NFC team for a draft pick.

There is no trade market for a 46 / 47 year old kicker.

A: you dont do that to AV.

B: Most likely, his contract will include a no-trade clause.

At the end of training camp there could be.  Especially if he has a decent camp and just lost out in the competition.  Kickers get turned over a lot during the season.  A team not happy with their kicking situation to start just might give up a late pick.  You never know.

Irsay isn't going to trade him.  He is either our kicker or they let him walk

Wow, there's just no trade you're not willing to make.

And we're certainly NOT trading AV after we re-sign him.     Not even for a draft pick.     Chris Ballard is not going to disrespect him like that.       If AV wants to keep going and CB wants him back,  then what is the problem --- exactly?!?

It's not just "now"....   it's been at least 7 years...    at least since I've been a Colts fan.

Sanchez does kick-offs now.     Before him it was Patty Mac.

Been a long time since AV did kick-offs.
