Colts away schedule is brutal

We have to play the chiefs, chargers, saints, and steelers at their place. That doesn't even count the division. The last away game is vs the bucs, but the last time we played a bruce arains led team, we got killed. We're gonna have to be really good at home.

And ????? …………. My buddy (Giants fan ) ALWAYS complains after his Giants go to the playoffs and then gets a tougher schedule the following season …...Well hey just like the team with the worst record gets the first pick in the draft ( which is proper ) it is also proper that we get a tough schedule next season …..WHY ? …….Because we made the playoffs . So I guess we can't complain .

i can see us beating the chiefs next year so issue there. chargers have no sproles (the only person that pretty much was a threat to us) so there's no issue there and the steeler's wont have AB or Bell so again no issue there. Id say the saints would be our only test next year but other than that all those games are winnable

Gordon is a top 5 RB and Allen is no slouch. Connor and Juju are really good too.

If we can win some of those games it will better prepare this team for if they do get back to the postseason.

This is true, but Pittsburgh is in a lot of turmoil and really the Chargers are just "good," not world beaters (and we should be able to beat good teams). K.C. and N.O. are annoying because they have two of the best homefield advantages in the league and you'd rather not deal with multiple of those in the same year.

Good, the tougher the better. You don’t see the Pats worrying about their strength of schedule on the road.

Train and plan accordingly and if you are as good as you think you then you will win more than you lose.

We need big games to prepare for the play offs.

This colts team upset some pretty good teams this year if Ballard fixes what hurt us this year with better players this team will be fine.

The Colts played five playoff teams all year counting playoffs, Texans, Eagles, Pats, Cowboys, and Chiefs.  They were 3-4 in those games.  Next year they will have four games on the road with playoff teams this year including having to go to the Saints and Chiefs each conferences number one seed.  Add in a road trip to the Steelers a place where they don’t historically play well and two division games the easiest game on the road will be the Bucs.  That’s a brutal scheudle and a big step up from what they faced this year on the road, at least on paper right now.

I am not going to sit here and say the Colts can’t have success next year but they are going to have to take care of business at home.  That’s more manageable with the three division games, Miami, Raiders, Broncos, Falcons and, Panthers coming to town.  They can’t afford to go worse than 6-2 at home next year IMO to have any kind of shot at the playoffs.

I hope the Colts take a step forward but it’s not going to be easy.

I think they are going to have to go 8-0 at home or maybe 7-1. This team is going to have to fill holes this off season to compete in some of these games next year if KC is any indication how we are against elite teams. We are going to have to be very much improved or there will be no playoffs.

I think op is saying it is crazy how the away schedule is so much harder than who we get at home. MIA, CAR, ATL, DEN, Raiders. for non division. The likely hood of us getting none of the toughest teams at home is the what the brutal part. If it was split more it be not as crazy tough for just the road. That is my reading of op take

Maybe they will.  I am just pointing out it’s a big step up in competition from this year.  However asking any team in the NFL to play a road scheudle like that is brutal.  Not just the Colts.  I do hope the Colts are a force next year.  However, I am not going to panic and over react if they take a step backwards.  I hope they don’t but if they go 8-8 or something next year I wouldn’t be overly shocked.  I also wouldnt be shocked if they pull off 11-5 or 10-6 and are back in the playoffs.

If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best.  Here.  There.  Anywhere.

Nice paraphrasing of the Nature Boy!  Love that phrase and always sticks with me.

"To be the man, you've got to BEAT the man"

Seriously though, I think we are not just about next year.  Although the schedule is tough, we need to test our young team against the best and that will only make us better for the years to come.

I also include Reich going up against the best coaches in this scenario.  I think he will have a fire in his belly after Reid out-coached him (Reich's own words) and so he will relish that challenge next year and make him all the better for pushing towards that Dynasty we are all chasing!

Where you finish only affects 2 games

The chiefs have won their first home playoff game for the first time in what... 24 years and the are consistently good?

Let's not get carried away, yes they are good this season, but consistency is 4-5 years in a row.

Mahomes got hit against the colts, and we have seen players like him at QB pop up once in a while, but their longevity havn't been good outside of Russell Wilson.

Yep, it gave us Miami and Pit.   Had we lost to the Titans we would have had Cleveland and Buffalo.

It's just a tough draw on the divisions we have to face in 2019.

KC, San Diego, Oak, Denver, Atlanta, Carolina, New Orleans and Tampa.  5/8 on the road.

The 2019 schedule will be much tougher than the 2018.   However, the team will be stronger as well.

    • No.   You weren’t.   If you were the least bit sincere, we’d be having these conversations in private.  But you’ve repeatedly ignored my efforts to do that.  Your call.      Then you avoid me until I’m in an uncomfortable conversation with another poster.   You use that awkward moment as an excuse for you to come in with some sincere friendly advice.   The problem is, you’re neither sincere, nor friendly.  And you’ve been doing this for months now.  This is not new.   The pattern is clear and obvious.     And the shame of it all is that even with our different views on Ballard we have enough in common that we should be friendly.  Maybe not friends, but friendly.  You wouldn’t need to address me as “Sir.”    “Good deed going unpunished”.  You flatter yourself.     But your actions speak much louder than your words.   There’s no reason for me to trust you.  And here we are.  A real shame.
    • In a year when the Colts were in serious need of a QB and in position to draft one, Ballard came up in front of the media 3 days before the draft and straight up said something to the effect of "That guy everybody in media is talking about(Levis), we are not taking him". I don't know why you think the Colts are trying to throw us off the scent this year specifically. They are not trying to give us away the pick(thus the vagueness), but I also don't really think they are trying to mislead anybody. This usually becomes specifically apparent in retrospect after the draft when you look back at a lot of those quotes in the videos they release pre-draft... and they were talking precisely about players we ended up drafting, which they reveal in the post-draft video by extending some of those quotes(they did that with AR last year for example).    And about why people are doing it(guessing who they are talking about) - because it is fun. Nobody has the illusion that we will be right in our guesses 100% of the time... or anywhere close really... but it's still fun. And it's part of why the Colts release those videos with those quotes - to create engagement with the fanbase... part of which, and the entirety of which that 70 pages thread and whole board is about in the offseason. is to guess who the Colts might take and how they might feel about specific prospects.
    • Sir, I was just trying to help you out. No good deed goes unpunished!
    • Not the least bit surprised to hear from you at this moment.   You see me in an uncomfortable conversation (with a moderator no less) and you seize the moment to take a shot at me.  And you try to act like you’re giving me a sincere explanation of what you’re doing.   Like you have an ounce of credibility with me.      This is not the first time you’ve done this.  While I may not be surprised, I’m certainly disappointed.
