i think those are the ones that should be no brainers.

i think Pascal, Ward, Woods, Hunt, Rogers, Farley, and, Mitchell might be kept under the right circumstances.

The biggest question mark is Adam.  I am normally the guy that says you keep Adam but don’t worry about him but I think this season provided some moments that make you at least have to think about moving on from him.  Decisions like that are why I am glad I am not the General Manger.

Slauson- Veteran Depth

Hunt and Woods- Solid rotational Dline

Mitchell- Veteran Depth

Inman- has emerged as a our best receiver outside of TY

Hewitt- Reich loves max protection, Hewitt has been good

Glowinski- Locked down RG

Desir- Liked his play a Corner this year

Geathers- I feel like he played solid down the stretch when healthy and he is getting better

Farley- Safety depth

Ward- good Dline depth

Pascal and Johnson- WR depth (i personally think Pascal has potential)

AV was playing hurt a lot of the season, hence some of the misses.  Looks like the ball wasn't set for either of his kicks today.  Hard to say if it was really him that was the problem or if it was something else.  We'll see what happens in the off season.

Adam Vinatieri- if he wants to

Margus Hunt- wouldn’t pay a lot but he’s been good

Al Woods- Started til injured and should be cheap

Pierre Desir- decent CB, I’d keep on a modest contract

Ryan Hewitt- good blocking TE/FB

Dontrelle Inman- Solid #3 WR

Clayton Geathers- ok if fit

Jihad Ward- let him fight for a spot preseason

Mark Glowinski- starting RG could get a decent contract

Chris Milton- great special teams guy, could be a camp cut if beat out

Luke Rhodes- vet minimum long snapper, solid there.

Chester Rogers- ok punt returner, potential at WR

Matthias Farley- done well when Geathers was out

Zach Pascal- decent WR #4/5

Marcus Johnson- WR who was traded for so might get another chance in camp.

Pascal, Johnson, Rodgers, Cain and Fountain seem to be fighting for 2 spots after Hilton, Inman, and a probable draft pick.

I think it is time to move on from Vinatieri and getting younger at the Kicker position!

I would resign:

Matt Slauson G

Pierre Desir CB

Mike Mitchell S

Dontrelle Inman WR

Jihad Ward DE

Mark Glowinski G

Zach Pascal WR

Marcus Johnson WR

Glowinski was a nice addition but shouldn't cost too much, Slauson got injured early in the season and is old therefore shouldn't cost much and would be nice to throw in into the mix. OL class is weak in this years draft so you can't expect much from there. Inman is a decent nr. 3 receiver it will depend what we are willing to do in free agency. If we splash out some money on a premium free agent receiver and draft another one with one of our early picks I could see that we let go of Inman. Johnson showed some promise before he got injured and Pascal had some moments too. Hilton + Veteran free agent + Rd 2 draft pick + Inman + best out of (Cain, Fountain, Pascal, Johnson...). Ward played well and is still young for a reasonable price I would resign him and let them battle it out in the preseason.

Ryan GrantWR28

Adam VinatieriK46

Matt SlausonG33

Margus HuntDE32 -> depends on what he wants. I'd be OK with getting him back for back up/depth

Al WoodsDT32

Pierre DesirCB28

Ryan HewittFB28

Mike MitchellFS32 -> depends on what he wants. all the safeties for me are in the same bin. Ideally you get them all back for camp on small deals and let them fight it out for roster spots

Najee GoodeOLB30

Dontrelle InmanWR30

J'Marcus WebbRT31

J.J. WilcoxFS30

Clayton Geathers -> depends on what he wants. all the safeties for me are in the same bin. Ideally you get them all back for camp on small deals and let them fight it out for roster spots

Jihad WardDE25

Mark GlowinskiG27 - > depends on what he wants. I wouldn't break the bank for him though 3-4M a year max

Corey MooreSS26

Chris MiltonCB26 -> good special teamer, but if we can upgrade his natural position, I do it and let him go. Might bring him back as camp body/competition

Luke RhodesILB

Josh Andrews

Jonathan Williams > this one is interesting because we've been keeping him on the 53 man roster since we got him, but he also hasn't gotten a single snap for us. I wonder if Ballard has plans for him. I used to love him as a prospect

Ronald Martin

Chester Rogers-> camp body/competition but I wouldn't pay much for him. We need much better player than him at the position.

Matthias Farley - all the safeties for me are in the same bin. Ideally you get them all back for camp on small deals and let them fight it out for roster spots

Ross Travis

Zach Pascal ->I'd give him a small contract/camp contract and let him fight it out with the other receivers for a roster spot

Brad Kaaya

Marcus Johnson

You think AV will be re-signed?

Is Glowinski an unrestricted free agent?

Why don't you want Slauson re-signed? (My team could use some guards.)

He has had series of serious injuries. I kind of expect him to retire. I guess if he's willing to give it a try, I wouldn't mind getting him back as backup/part of the rotation.

I'm not sure about Glowinski's contract status. I just took the list provided and gave my thoughts. I don't think I'm as high on him as others. He's had some horrible games in the last several weeks.

hunt, desir, inman and glowinski are my no brainers.  all important contributors this year

we have a few aging veterans that might be worth bringing back depending on health.  its probably too early to say for these guys like AV, woods and mitchell

im ready to move on from farley and geathers, and make safety a big need.

For the right price I agree with your picks, what we don't know is who will command what in terms of dollars in the market.  I do want to see us keep this core together, that was our investment this year was to see what they can do and develop talent.  Doesn't make sense to let guys walk.  So where we have a lot of cap space we have a ton of guys to sign.  We may not have the amount of funny money we think in the end.

The Colts are in really good shape as far as FAs are concerned this year. For me, the only priority re-signing would be Glowinski. Any of the others that find new homes wouldn't be catastrophic losses.

Out of your list I would say:

Desir

Mitchell

Inman

Geathers

Glowinski

And even those guys other than maybe Desir aren't super mandatory.

Goes to show you how thin on talent they really are.

Thanks for the list. I will play.
And just the way you did, except. A couple young guys i would bring back to the 90 man to compete for roster spots. Based on a tiny sample of there potential. Just saying.

Players i like to be brought back:
Desir
Inman
Geathers
Ward

Farley
and Marcus Johnson and Pascal. One of them could make a leap, and will have to IMO.

Glow will get all due consideration based on $$ and other FA possibilities.

Rogers - i like him but they will be looking hard for someone more explosive

I'm sure we have a fine snapper to sign.
The rest we need to upgrade for the short and long term.
Several of these will be signed as camp bodies, potential depth. 90 is a lot of bodies.

    • There's a lot of analysis to be done here, IMO. I don't know all the answers, but some questions that should be addressed are what's the difference between the success rate of a first round pick and that of a second/third round pick, historically? How do you value that difference? I think I've seen stats that say first rounders are starters at a higher rate than other rounds, but is that influenced by the bias of the team that drafted the player in the first round? (Probably.) It's probably fair to say that the players taken in the first round are more likely to be difference makers than the players taken later, but I think there are position groups where the difference is negligible, and I think WR is one of them.   And then, if you get into a climate where everyone is selling in the first round, then the value probably flips at some point.    Also, I don't necessarily think of the draft as a crap shoot. Yes, it's arbitrary, but I think some front offices are good at drafting, and some are bad at drafting; but the difference isn't as wide as general perception would indicate. And there are lots of dependent variables -- coaching, health, etc. -- that influence the outcome of each pick.    I do think more picks is the way to go to maximize value. But to build the best roster? That's a different arm of the discussion. Like you said later on, we've been trading down, and we don't have a great roster.    You also make a good point about the rookie contract vs trading for an established player, and that's not to be ignored. But my point is that if you're going to base your appetite for risk on your level of conviction in the player, I'd rather take the big swing on the established player than on a draft prospect, despite the difference in contract status. The ideal mix is to target a second or third year WR so you can at least get some of the rookie contract. Ballard reportedly asked for Jaylen Waddle and Christian Watson last year.
    • I really don’t see that type of Defensive player in this draft. But there’s always surprises. But I agree, we’ve got to go offensive fire power this year. At least in the first.
    • If they want to beat the Texans they will
    • I don’t think we’ll address the DL at all in rounds 1-4. I think we’re happy with who we have currently and will give the new DL coach a chance to see what he thinks over the next season.
