This is the one week we CAN NOT afford that guy out there.

And in case anyone was wondering, Hooker is in a walking boot.

:hide:

This guy is made of glass. One tackle and an assisted tackle and now a walking boot. Bob Sanders held up better than this.

I hope he stays around the locker room as there was a great article by Zak Keefer about how he had stepped immediately into a strong mentor role for this young group of DB's, particularly in the case of Wilson.

He would continue to be of great value if we progress past Saturday, even if not on the field.

Safety i think just became a fore issue in the draft this year... I don't look for Ballard to keep Hooker long term being banged up constantly

Just saw Joel Erickson tweet Mitchell hadn’t played more then 23 snaps since the bye week so he really is there more as a leader. He can still do that.

Exactly.  And for those ragging on Hooker - how much time has he missed this season?

I think it always was a fore issue. I believe all three of Farley, Geathers and Mitchell are hitting FA.

Geathers is a big risk, as we know. Giving him a sizable extension isn't prudent. Farley is a JAG...and ended up on IR. Mitchell was a solid vet presence...but relying on a 32 year-old to play a big role is not the best idea. And now that he ended up on IR...even less so.

I could see bringing back one of those guys as depth, but I actually hope Ballard is looking to upgrade and stabilize the S depth chart.

I think they will need to look at the draft AND FA. Fortunately, S is a good position in FA. If Collins makes it there...he should be their guy even with the surgery.

But there's also other guys like Tyrann Mathieu and Lamar Joyner, who could be great fits. Earl Thomas is also available...though it sounds like he is DAL bound...and he a bit superfluous with Hooker here.

The Colts have a ton of cap space and this is a great place to leverage some of that. Ideally, they add at least one of Collins/Mathieu/Joyner...but I would be for adding two of them. Having Collins at SS and one of Mathiue/Joyner at the nickel S position could take this defense to a whole new level. Basically, nickel would become the base defense.

Then I would look to add another S on Day 3 to develop and have as depth (along with anyone they bring back)...which would ensure we don't have to see Odum again.

I want the Colts to have two very good Ss, one good S...and then depth. Right now, IMO, they have one very good one and a bunch of question marks.

Wish we could have nabbed Swearinger a couple weeks ago. Not sure if he ever cleared waivers though so it might be moot. Our Safety position is definitely concerning now. I think Quincy plays some snaps there this week. He was playing there a few weeks ago but it looked like they were sliding him over to RCB exclusively lately.

Had not seen anything on this yet but Safety Mike Mitchell sent too IR and elevated Rolan Miligan https://www.colts.com/_mobileview/news/colts-place-safety-mike-mitchell-on-ir-bring-back-rolan-milligan-to-active-roste

Certainly a major loss Mike Mitchell’s coverage skills on Nickel Downs will certainly be missed. This will definitely affect the upcoming game.

Stinks, but we'll be fine. Odum isn't as bad as people make him out to be. Titans game was rough, but before that he was making some hard hits.

He brings the boom as an enforcer, but he lacks the coverage skills Mitchell does and overall football smarts especially when it comes to down and distance. I wonder how it will affect the Nickel package because prior Mitchell would Play SS and they would slide Geathers down to LBer I assume Geathers would replace Mitchell, who replaces Geathers?

I really like jj he has been with a team a month and is similar story to Mitchell he can fill in his role I like his coverage skills better.  Mitchell is not a starter he is a depth guy who is a specialist and jj can play at the same level

Im disappointed for the guy.  He certainly helped us get here.

Remember the interception?  Good at run support too and veteran stability.  Solid player for us especially when we had the injuries there.  Another solid Ballard pick-up.  Bummer.  W could have used him, i have a feeling this is gonna be a hard, physical game.

In draft and FA we add corner, safety and edge rusher and this defense starts to look scary.  Dl and LB too imo.  Very doable and we then have good depth imo.

I agree adding the right safety to the way we play D would transform things dramatically and make us flexible to do many things.

he was never that good tbh.  made a play or two i guess, also got torched and had some very bad games

hes probably more of a man coverage corner too

He was good in the slot. I have no idea what you're talking about..... He tied honey badger for for the most amount of games without a td pass

he was over rated by this forum and wasnt any good in coverage.  the one thing he did well was blitz

the td streak could be a fluke or he simply wasnt targeted in the red zone for some reason.  read his pff break down if you want to hear more

    • You think the Ed Dodds you see in edited clips here is the same as the Ed Dodds who interviews with teams?   I don’t know you or anyone would think that?      He’s very much respected around the NFL which is why multiple teams ask to interview with them most every year.

    • Yeah... Richardson needs players who can separate and who can get open deep. IMO "give the inaccurate QB a contested catch receiver with large catch radius" is one of the tropes that hasn't proven to work well. Contested catches have about 50-55% success rate even with the best of contested catch receivers and with relatively accurate QBs... now if you think AR's accuracy is not good, drop that rate even more. The best way to give a relatively inaccurate QB better chance to complete passes is to give him a WR who separates and and who is open so the QB would have more of a margin for error to throw the ball a little behind or ahead or a little higher or lower than ideal. (we are not talking about uncatchable balls here... those will be uncatchable for anyone really). In that regard, one thing I would agree about is - we need WRs who have good hands and have good ball skills.   And this is ignoring that AR has indeed been pretty good with his accuracy on passes at intermediate and long range. His biggest problem coming into the league was the short stuff and he was already showing improvements in that deparment before he got injured.    And Worthy is the WR who created the most separation from anybody in this draft :
    • Richardson  accuracy  on deep balls is his strength.  Hence why you pair an elite deep threat in worthy.
