My Colts Mock Draft 3.0 + Offseason Predictions (3/10/12)

Recommended Posts

Team Needs: QB, RB, WR. TE, OT, OG, C, DE, DT/NT, MLB, CB, SS

As you can see above we need to upgrade a lot of positions.

Resign:

Jacob Tamme, TE

Jamaal Andrerson, DT/DE

Jacob Lacey, CB

Pierre Garcon, WR

Mike Pollak, OG/C

Free Agent Additions:

Evan Mathis, OG

Chris Carr, CB

Cory Redding, DE

Jarrett Johnson, OLB

Jameel McClain, MLB

And of course other free agents that aren't that noticable.

Trades:

Colts trade Dwight Freeney to the Bills for a 2nd and 3rd round pick.

Draft:

1st Round, Pick 1: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

No explanation needed.

2nd Round, Pick 2: Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford

With the recent release of Dallas Clark and Jacob Tamme being a free agent, Colts need a tight end badly. Fleener who played with Luck his whole college career will give Luck a comfortable weapon for his time here in Indianapolis.

2nd Round, Pick 10 (From Bills): Kevin Zeiter, OG, Wisconsin

If Luck is going to have a productive career, he must have the offensive line to do so. Assuming we do sign Evan Mathis, this is what our offensive line would look like.

LT: Castonzo

LG: Zeiter

C: Pollak

RG: Mathis

RT: Ijalana

It's a young offensive line with tons of potential.

3rd Round, Pick 1: Harrison Smith, SS, Notre Dame

Strong Saftey has been a need ever since Bob Sanders kept getting injured. Harrison Smith fits the need here.

3rd Round, Pick 10 (From Bills): Chase Minnifield, CB, Virginia

Our defensive back position was dreadful last season.

4th Round, Pick 2: Nicolas Jean-Baptiste, NT, Baylor

Chuck Pagano's defense is 3-4 and people say that Antonio Johnson would be good for thatnose tackle position but I disagree. Nicolas Jean-Baptiste is a big guy who is a better fit for the position.

5th Round, Pick 1: AJ Jenkins, WR, Illionois

With Wayne leaving and possibly Garcon (Even though I predict him to re-sign), wide receiver is a need. AJ Jenkins is a sleeper with potential to be a #1 receiver.

5th Round, Compensatory Pick: Michael Brewster, C, Ohio St.

With Saturday possibly leaving or retiring, the colts need a center.

6th Round, Pick 2: Chris Owusu, WR, Stanford

Like I said before, if Garcon leaves, Colts might draft another familiar weapon for Luck. Chris Owusu is a another sleeper with great value but is a injury prone player.

7th Round, Pick 1: Carmen Missina, MLB, New Mexico

Depth at the linebacker position.

7th Round, Compensatory Pick: Evan Rodriguez, FB/TE, Temple

More of a full back, but who knows, he could be a solid tightend.

Prediction of Starting Depth Chart:

QB: Luck

RB: Brown

FB: Rodriguez

WR: Garcon, Jenkins, Collie, Owusu

TE: Fleener, Tamme

LT: Castonzo

LG: Zeiter

C: Pollak

RG: Mathis

RT: Ijalana

LE: Redding

RE: Mathis

NT: Jean-Baptiste

LOLB: Wheeler

MLB: Angerer and McClain

ROLB: K.Conner

CB: Powers and Minnifield

FS: Bethea

SS: Smith

K: Vinateri

P: McAfee

LS: Snow

Nice draft, I like Jean-Baptiste but most people have him going in the 6th or 7th round though.

Good job MTC..... I really like the focus on OG and selecting Coby Fleener in the 2nd round.

I'm not sure if a Freeney trade is a realistic scenario at this point... at least not one that lucrative... but we can still accomplish what you have for Round 2 thru a slight trade down from the #34 pick even if Freeney is cut.

Pretty good draft overall.

Just a few things IMO..

Id stay far far away from Owusu. He wasnt even that good in college.

I dont think the Colts are going to get that much for Freeney either.

Also Mathis will be a OLB in the 3-4. Nevis or Moala would probably be the other 3-4 DE.

Could we get a young ex-DT to play our 3-4 DE and kick Mathis to OLB? We could use Nevis or Moala right now, or we could get a FA like Okoye or Carriker.

ManningtoCollie...I think you got a starting depth chart error there. You got mathis at DE and atleast from what I'm getting from the starting lineup you look like you have it as a 3-4 set up...Mathis would get killed at DE in a 3-4 haha

The Colts will never get McClain, he's considered to be the heir to Ray Lewis, they won't let him go.

I thinks Jenkins will go mid fourth round, and i would want a WR earlier.
