Colts @ Texans 2019 AFC Wild Card Round Playoff Game Thread

Happy New Year, 2019, and the Blue Horseshoe is back in the NFL Playoffs Colts Fans!  Our  2018 and 10-6  Indianapolis Colts are back in the NFL Postseason for the first time in four years,  as they are back again in Southeast Texas, to play the 11-5, and 2018 AFC South Division Champions Houston Texans for third time in the 2018-19 NFL calendar season.

This afternoon's Colts @ Texans game leads off the weekends 2019 NFL's Wild Card Round Weekend, followed by the Seahawks @ Cowboys, and on sunday the L.A. Chargers @ Ravens, and Eagles @ Bears Wild Card Round playoff Games.   Our Colts also  earned this year's playoff berth convincingly and on the road, by virtue of defeating the Tennessee Titans in Nashville by the score of 33-17 last Sunday Night.

Colts are in their 28th playoff appearance this late Saturday afternoon since in their 65th year of existence. since the NFL awarded the franchise back in January 23, 1953. and  as the Baltimore Colts from 1953 through 1983, and the Indianapolis Colts from 1983 through today.

Indianapolis is the third NFL team to reach the postseason after starting their first six games with a 1-5 record. Colts then proceeded to win 9 of their 10 remaining regular season games, the only loss and blemish a 6-0 road loss at the Jacksonville Jaguars back on December 2.

I still think the Colts November schedule, with their Week 9 bye week, and three straight home games at the real LOS, was the turning point in their 2018 regular season.  First year Colts Head Coach Frank Reich, should earn serious consideration as the NFL's Coach Of the Year in leading the Colts turnaround this past regular season.

2014 Indianapolis Colts were the last team to qualify for playoffs,  completing both  their third consecutive year with an 11-5 regular season record, and also 2014 was the last year the Colts earned the AFC South Divisional Championship.

2014 Colts proceeded to defeat the Bengals 26-10 in the AFC Wild Card Playoffs, and the Broncos 24-13 in the AFC Divisional Playoffs, before falling to the Patriots in the AFC New England,  both by the final 7-45 score, and the Colts the victim of the alleged 'deflategate'  by Tom Brady and eventual Super Bowl Champion Patriots.

Both Indianapolis and Houston split wins, each winning road games by three points, in their home-and-home rivalry in the 2018 regular season  meetings.

Houston won in overtime when Ka'imi Fairburn kicked the game-winning 37 yard field goal with five minuites left in overtime to defeat the Indianapolis  37-34 at the real LOS back on September 30, 2018.

However, the Colts avenged their earlier loss later, when the Colts had the biggest lead of the match played at Houston,, leading 24-14, before the Colts kept their lead after a Texans Touchdown from DeShaun Watson to DeAndre Hopkins, and eventually won 24-21 in the rematch played at NRG Stadium in Houston back on December 9, 2018.

Indianapolis has lead the regular season series prior to Saturday afternoon with their 26-8 record, but today's is both teams first postseason game, in today's 35th all-time meeting.

Colts also have a winning road regular season record at Houston at 12-5.

Joe Tessitore,, Jason Whitten  and Booger Mc Farland are announcing the live TV game commentary, along with sideline reporter and interviewer Lisa Salters, simulcast in throughout the USA and internationally on ESPN and the Watch ESPN app, and locally on WRTV ABC Channel 6 - The Indy Channel in Indianapolis, beginning with the pregame show on WRTV at 2:00 PM Eastern Time. and seen live on HD.

NRG (Energy) Stadium's roof may be open for the 4:35 PM Eastern Standard Time kickoff, because sunny skies at 70  degrees is the local forecast, along with  0% precipitation, 37% humidity, and southern winds at 4 miles per hour.

Head Linesman Bill Vinovich, in his 13th season as an NFL official, and 10th as a referee, leads his NFL officiating crew to supervise the game action on the NRG Stadium field, between the Colts and Texans. Vinovich is also in his 11th postseason assignment, including 3 Wild Card Playoffs, 4 Divisional Playoffs, 3 Conference Championships, and Super Bowl XLIX.

NO injuries, try to advance intoto the AFC Divisional Playoffs next weekend by defeating the Texans  tonight, and LET'S GO COLTS!!!!!

I look at all the games during the 16 game season because they are all important. What sticks out to me was Oakland beating Pittsburgh in Week 14. Without that we are not in the Playoffs. So this is all gravy moving forward. That same week we won at Houston, at that point we just needed the Steelers to lose 1 more game and win our last 3 games to get in. Steelers still had to play at Saints so that was given they would lose that. We should send Jon Gruden a thank you card because no way the Steelers should've lost to Oakland.

TY for 155 yards and 3 TDs.

He must be feeling pretty good about that ankle. I don’t think TY would talk trash and not back it up.

Agree.  He's not a rookie that would predict 40 tackles, haha.

I think this one is going to end up well for us, but it will be bruising and somewhat low scoring.  17-13, and Colts going to KC next week.

If we are losing, I feel the thread will be longer lol.

Our young guys are making mistakes every week. A road game with the noise

Expect it.
The posts here in the 4th quarter was the most Pathetic, loser d*ng imagineable.

All these posters saying we Should win this road game are Clueless.
We will be fortunate to win this game with our injury riddled roster. Go Colts!

Injury riddled?

This is probably the healthiest we've been all season.

Evening and welcome to another G'Day topic.

Remember we're playing with house money now and that games aren't decided in the first quarter. To go from 1-5 to the playoffs (and still having a slim shot at the division in week 17) is pretty miraculous considering how young a roster it is. Far from, dare I say it.... pathetic, perhaps the most misused word on this forum currently.

Thanx LOS.....If worse case scenario  it us down 7 points ( or less ) with 3-4 minutes left in game and Andrew has the ball  ( again as a worse case scenario ) ….. I can (barely ) live with it  ……….. GO COLTS !!!!!!!!

Everybody's good but I'd rather be playing at Houston than at Baltimore...

…..The only real weaknesses they have are in the secondary and offensive line.

….Our inexperience may be less of a factor since we're seeing the same team for the 3rd time.

For our rookies, this is their 17th NFL game and the third time they're playing Houston.

I'd like to think there's some comfort there...

...Watson hasn't played in any pro playoff games (although he has played Alabama twice) but you want to play against a QB making his playoff debut

Just be careful with those wide receiver screens today, as Watt will be looking for a pick 6. Even with lesser level DE some of those passes are inches from getting picked.

On one of the videos a couple of weeks ago they showed Andrew actually pumping it once so that Watt would clear the lane before he threw it.  I'm sure Andrew will have that in his mind.

They've done a good job screwing with Watt's penetration thus far.  I like our chances with Kelly in the C spot.

    • And those are about the best signings the Colts have done under Ballard in 8 years.    Has Ballard even spent over $10+m once in a FA? Gilmore maybe? That’s once. In going on 8 years.    Noone does what Ballard does and he hasn’t had success doing it, so noone’s trying to replicate it.
    • For your consideration….   Nobody knew who Ebukam was when the Colts signed him week 2 last year.   And nobody knew who Denico Autry was when the Colts signed him in week 2.   “Who?” Was the most popular comment both times.  They turned out really well.      Im not sayin Ballard is going to do it again this year, it hasn’t happened every year, all I’m saying it’s happened from time to time so it’s still possible that CB will find a keeper that people here will like.
    • Could he do it?  Sure, but it is much tougher for him than most owners in the NFL.  The Colts just layed out $200 million this free agency.  I imagine over half in guaranteed money.  That’s a lot for Jim.
    • With all that said...
    • Spending doesn't mean you will win. You still need to spend smart and you still need to draft well and overall make good decisions.    Not spending limits you in your roster construction. I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand. The best teams in the league use ALL available avenues for improving their team. They do not limit themselves artificially with what's possible to achieve. They also concentrate resources into windows of contention. This means at any given time, if you are not spending you are competing against teams that are pouring resources into trying to win it RIGHT NOW. You will just always be at disadvantage because while 1 specific team will need to reload and take their lumps for spending too much in short period of time once in a while, the league as a whole will always have at least a few teams that are in that high spending mode chasing a window for contention.    Now... is it possible you strike gold and beat those teams while relying almost exclusively on the draft? It's possible. If you string together a few insane draft classes. But it's not very likely...
