Alex Smith trade re-visited, Chiefs knew what they were doing

Andy Reid knows what he is doing when it comes to the QB position. Idk why mahomes had so many doubters. Given Reid’s track record do you think he’d give up a pro bowl QB if he wasn’t 99% sure Mahomes was special?

But the redskins got a good QB even though they should have handled the Cousins situation better.

They fleeced themselves when they hired Bruce Allen, who had proven he was a bad GM.

Maybe....

Bur during that time the Skins also had Scot McCloughan (sp?) wasn’t convinced Cousins was worth the price either.   And McCloughan has a very good reputation.

Just saying these decisions aren’t often as easy and obvious as fans think they are...

I’m sorry....   but this might be one if the dumbest most bizarre articles I’ve ever seen...

Follow me....

It looks like the guy who wrote the article and the guy who wrote the headline are NOT the same guy.

The headline is in three parts.

Part One:  The Skins got fleeced.

Part Two:  The Skins are in FIRST PLACE.

Part Three:   Smith is having a Pro Bowl caliber season.

Reaction:   Huh?!?   Those three pieces aren’t typically bunched together.

The writer only focuses on the trade.  Says the Skins gave up too much in the deal and the contract is too expensive.   And all he offers are his opinions.

Reaction:  Yawn...

The Skins were between a rock and a hard place and made the best of a bad situation.  You may not win the Super Bowl with Smith, but you’ll be competitive.   You’ll win games.   Smith won’t lose many.   You’ll likely be in the playoffs.

Good for Andy Reid that he’s right on Mahoney.   But that had nothing to do with the Skins situation.   They are separate and have nothing to do with each other.    Both teams did fine.

McCloughan wanted to extend Cousins early in 2015, before he got too expensive. Cousins wasn't playing well at the time and didn't turn it on until the second half of the season. Cousins himself admitted later that if he had received an offer, even one that was lowball offer, he'd have had to take it. And it was Scot and Gruden who stood on the table for Cousins before the 2015 season and said to Dan Snyder that Cousins needs to start, RG3 needs to sit.

Bruce Allen wasn't sold and refused. They gave Cousins the tag after the season, Scot was removed from the negotiation table and Bruce Allen declined contract offer from Cousins that was a 3 yr, 60M deal of which 40 or 60M was guaranteed. can't recall which. IIRC, Scot wasn't completely sold on Cousins either and wanted to trade him in 2017 and draft a QB.

As far as the Chief's end of this claim...real bold. In other new the Pats knew what they were doing when they traded Randy Moss.

The Redskins deal is a little more complex. Obviously Smith isn't the dynamic young guy Mahomes is but there's no reason he can't win. Their coach is the dunce if you ask me. He's waffled at mediocrity the whole time in not the world's toughest division.
