For A 5th Run Pick!!!!

Yes, this is what excess skill position players go for on the trade market.

Why people feel we should invest prime draft capital in such players is beyond me. The evidence is clear.

Ballard wants us to play and develop our young players. Last I checked, we have 3 drafted RB's on the roster and all of them have had promising moments. We don't need to be moving picks for a player that doesn't move the needle at all long term , and would be blocking the development of Mack, Hines and Wilkins.

If it was an elite back for that price , I'd think about it. Hyde is just a guy. He wasn't the starter going forward in Cleveland , and he won't be the starter in Jacksonville.

The reason the Jags traded for him is because their starter is injured , and they're in win-now mode. Picks aren't nearly as valuable to them at this stage of their development.

Would Hyde be an upgrade? Probably.

Does he make sense for the Colts? No.

Carlos Hyde is 26yrs old and would not start for here either.  The Colts don't really have a short yardage back.  He would'nt be stunting anyones development.  Currently when the Colts are inside the 10 yard line its all passing from there and for good reason.  He could have brought that here.  They are keeping Turbin is he stunting anyone development.  Of course not and Hyde is a better option then him.... And yes Jacksonville brought him in because of injury and they brougt in a physical back due to an injured physical back.

Exactly,   he isn't great.   He's good.   Our backs are good as well.   No change.   Again,   if the colts traded a 5th and dropped turbin, I would have been cool with that.   I don't think it would have changed much though.

A 5th round draft pick is your definition of a Prime Draft Pick.  If thats the case then I guess the term of a bust Draft Pick would be someone Drafted what 8th, 9th in the Draft......

I stand corrected he is 28.  My point was that he could have brougth some situational football here as far as a runner.  I do like the young running back that are here and wasn't expecting Hyde to come in here and be the man or something but to me the Colts are missing that little element that they had with Frank Gore.  Teams had to respect that the Colts just might just try to run to ball  inside the ten yard line.

Here's Hyde's contract:

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/carlos-hyde-14467/

I'm sure he's more expensive than Wilkins and probably at worst similar to  Turbin's contract plus a 5th rd draft pick to acquire him.

That's NOT the kind of deals colts usually do.

1. I thought I posted that Hyde wouldn't come here being the man let alone getting the Colts to the playoffs.  2. Regarding the oline earlier in the season most words heard about them was Trash, Suck so on and so on.  Not so much now:  knock on wood.  3. Don't get the conection with what Hyde has to do with the Receivers dropping passes what so ever.  4.  Who's to say the oline if stay healthy will get a little more consistent.  Was kind of shock they didn't bail on the running game in the second half against the Jets.  Not getting too hype about the pub the oline is getting from there ranking but, compared to last year and this year enough said.  And yes more consistency is needed  5.  Once again talking about change a paste runner Turbin was supposed be that but to be continued I guess......

No. I didn't say a 5th was prime draft capital.

It's certainly a waste if you use it on Carlos Hyde , though. I'm sure the Browns loved getting 6 million off their cap too.

it would have costed us a 1st rounder to get a RB from the Browns...Or so i'm told.

Jax is also in win now mode..... Colts are not

Having been beat by more than the Colts have TWICE, especially by 30+ points, suggests otherwise..

I despise the "win now mode" phrase. It's as if the majority of teams aren't trying to win. I despise it even more when it's used as an excuse (notably from fans) to not try and make our team better.

The NFL trade market for mid-tier vets is typically like this. There just isn't much draft value to be gained when trading them...and the receiving team gets a solid player for very little (like in this case).

Hopefully at some point, the Colts can take advantage and add an established player on the cheap. But now is not the time. And Hyde doesn't really make sense anyways.

But the part about not investing in skill positions I disagree with.

After watching Mack against the Jets, I now have a clearer picture of his,  Hines and Turbins roles on the team.  What is Wilkins role now though? He seems like a tweener to me now.  Good vision but he can’t hit the holes like Mack was doing.

Wilkins doens't really have a role with Doyle out. He had some success running in the jumbo formation. And Doyle is now out, so they don't have the blockers for it.

He also doesn't seem to be a threat in the passing game, which limits the offense and makes it more predictable.

He will have some games left to carve out a role...it's just hard to see it being very big.

The jags did it because they feel like they could have a Super Bowl season and all the injuries to the running back spot are killing them.  The Colts are much more than a running back away.  Having draft picks is important to a team that is rebuilding and doing it through the draft.  Making a trade for a guy mid-season when you aren’t in the running for a Super Bowl doesn’t make a lot of sense.

I also don’t know if it’s a need.  Mack had 99 yards Sunday in his first real action of the season and the Colts left side of the line was doing the best job of run blocking I have seen from a Colts line since maybe the first Super Bowl season.

I’d stay patient and see how these young guys do behind a line that is starting to get healthy.

Mack > Hyde. Colts fans are about to recognize.

He can be if he's 100% for the rest of the season and the OL learns to run block better.  He's the only dynamic potential they have at RB.  While I think Hines and Wilkins are decent for young players, I don't think they really strike fear into any opposing defense at all.

However, a healthy Mack with his dynamic game breaking speed and agility could keep a defense on their toes IF he's healthy and stays that way the rest of the year.

    • Can you expend on this, why do you think that?
    • No, but I would love that! Is that true? Where did you hear that? I don't think that will happen. I heard that trading Herbert would result in a huge dead cap hit for the Chargers, that would make it nearly impossible to keep or sign other players.
