We NEED to finish worse than the Giants

Recommended Posts

Unless things starts to get better and we go on a win streak, which at the moment isn't likely, though we have a pretty "easy" schedule for the rest of the season.

There is one thing we could hope for this, besides a miracle, is to finish with a worse record than the Giants, and pick before them in the 2019 draft.

Why?

They need a QB to replace Eli.

Other teams that could be interested in a QB would be Denver Broncos,  maybe the Oakland Raiders and possibly Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay.

As of right now, only Justin Herbert - QB from Oregon and Drew Lock from Missouri are valued as potential 1st round picks, which makes this draft very thin for the QB class.

So by finishing worse than the Giants, the Colts could sit with a strong hand come draft time, IF - and that's a big IF, two teams would wan't to go into a bidding war for Justin Herbert and make a trade to get him.

Of course I wan't the colts to win, and win now, but I'd rather have a top pick, and preferably more picks than finish with a better record, say 5-11 or 6-10 and sit at a position in the draft, where we have no leverage in a possible trade scenario.

The Giants will be the one team to watch, compared to our own record this season, If such a scenario should play out.

Regarding the Raiders, Broncos and Jaguars, I'm not sure they would necessarily pick a QB as the Giants would, If they were to finish with a worse record than us, and I don't think that either of the Broncos and Jaguars will finish below the Colts.

Yes it's early and still 10 games to go, but whats your take on this?

i Think the QB prospects are weak and none may even go top 10 IMO. However, the DL, CB and OT positions look somewhat loaded in what some scouts are calling a weak class. Barring some huge run by the Colts, they’ll be drafting 3-10 Range I think and should have alternatives be it make selection or trade down. Personally, I’d stay put or move down very little like last season. Still to early though.

I think Brissett has a year left on his contract and like you said the Giants and Raiders will be or at least should be looking but I have heard some of the TV people say both may stay put but I find that hard to believe. The Titans have to worry about the QB as well in terms of his nerve injury not showing much improvement as he is in constant pain.

I really hope Ballard takes full advantage of this DL, OT, and DB class. I also think the WRs are much better than last year's which bodes well for us.

We can't trade Brissett to Jax. Now if another team outside of the division offers up a 1st round pick, or very early 2nd,  I'm all for dealing Brissett, so long as Luck continues to progress and get back to form.

We definitely should entertain trade offers for Brissett before he is able to walk in free agency and wants to start elsewhere.

I don't think we get a 1st for Brissett.

Two teams that have two first round picks off the top of my head are Oakland (for Khalil Mack from Bears), and Packers (from Saints for drafting Davenport).

So, our game vs Oakland could end up being some twisted tie-breaker of some sorts. If Oakland does slightly better than us and is in the Top 10, there is a chance if they pick behind us a couple of spots that we can move down and gain picks. I can see them wanting Nick Bosa badly enough.

    • Any chance we take a OT with the 1st pick?
    • FWIW:   Today I listened to a guy from The Athletic interviewed on ESPN.   (Darren Lee). He said interviewing GMs at the combine, almost all view DeJean as a safety except two teams.  He thinks the Colts and Jags view DeJean as a corner.     I don’t know this reporter, never seen him before, so I can’t speak to his credibility.  But it sounds like he did a lot of homework.     And I appreciate your view on pro day times being reliable or not.   I’m always skeptical on pro days.  But I thought DeJean helped himself on his testing.
    • I could care less what he does. Been too long ago.
    • I’m with ya..     I'm not sure we’re going WR at 15 either.  I think we could go DE, and it’s possible we could go CB as well.   Gosh,  I love Mitchell and really like Arnold as well.  And if we trade back I would be fine with McKinstry or a DE on defense or one of the 2nd tier of WRs that could be there in the 20’s.  So many options.   I keep reminding myself, every pick could produce a surprise, because I think Ballard will have so many options to choose from.      Im also not sure Ballard will use all 7 rounds.   He finished in 5 rounds in his first draft 2017,  and he finished in 6 rounds in 2019.   Maybe he uses all 7 rounds, but I’m not confident we will.     One week from tonight.
    • My Final Mock Draft   15. Brock Bowers, TE,  6’4 245 Lbs, Georgia - Blue Chip Prospect.  Rare combination of acceleration, speed and body control. Hands-catcher operating with good coordination and technique. With Pittman on the outside Bowers will control the middle of the field and seams. AR Will develop much quicker into a top 10 QB with Bowers as his TE.  46. TJ Tampa, CB, 6’1, 190 Lbs, Iowa State - Elite physical traits. Plays with good positioning throughout routes. Very good in press Coverage and Zone. Expect him to compete in training camp and be named a starter.      82. Calen Bullock, S, 6’2 190 lbs, USC - Elite physical traits. He has the range to play single-high safety, the athleticism to line up over the slot and the ball skills to chalk up impressive on-ball production. Expect him to compete in training camp for the starting S position.    117. Tez Walker,  WR,  6’2 195 Lbs, UNC - Elite speed with very good body control. Career average of 30.7 yards on touchdown receptions. Gives us very good depth and competition with Pierce.    151. Grayson Murphy, DE, 6’3 260 Lbs, UCLA - Shows impressive quickness and change of direction to help turn speed to power as a rusher. Good depth.    191.  Keaton Bills, G, 6’5 320 Lbs, Utah - Cerebral player, quick to react to twists and stunts up front. Very good depth.
