2 Comments by Mel Kiper on Mr. Leonard.

Recommended Posts

Comment #1.....Leonard is a small-school guy who showed up at the Senior Bowl and had a great week. He's a perfect fit for today's NFL, as a guy with average size (6-2, 234), but with 34.5-inch arms and who can run a 4.7. He dominated his level of competition and is a really good athlete...………. Comment #2 …….Mel Kiper Jr. rates Leonard as the best FCS defensive player on his big board, and he could be a Day 2 pick. …..IF…… if Mr. Kiper is correct thank you Mr. Ballard ……….. Keep it rolling Colts !!!!!

Yeah, I was surprised by the amount of vitriol but I think it was mostly due to people not knowing who he was. It was my favorite pick of the draft at the time, even over Nelson. Just one of those draft crushes that you hoped your team would pick.

There are lots of players like those that are drafted and not utilized and developed well. I am so glad it is not the case with Leonard. Ballard showed us some "Polian like" instincts, giving his coaches the perfect system fit they needed, which is what Polian used to do but "after" deciding on a skill position player in the first round too often to my liking.

Leonard is a beast, 18 tackles today and various other menacing things to the offense of the Redskins. This guy has every possibility to be a annual pro bowler and be the leader of our defense for years to come

He probably playing better than roquan smith and Edmunds despite being picked after them.

We got our win today like we talked about so as of now the season is still in Good shape. Looking at our schedule I still say even we start 2-3 we will be fine but if we can somehow upset Philly or the Pats that makes us a legit threat to make the Playoffs.

If wentz and Jeffery are still out and castanzo comes back we may have a chance. Though I really want to win that pats game. The Texans game scares me because of fuller and Hopkins. Those two are game reckers

I am out of LIKES but I agree. I shouldn't be so quick to pencil in a win vs Houston. I just think that game is more winnable than the Philly and Pats game. The NFL stuck us with a tough schedule for the 1st 5 games that is why losing to Cincy still hurts.

I liked the pick, but it had nothing to do with Kiper.  The most overrated analyst there is.

Anyone who thinks Kiper is "overrated" doesn't know or understand the draft.

You may like it, and follow it, and be interested in it....    but you don't know it.

Of all the people to single out as overrated and you pick....    Kiper?     Yikes.....

After last year, i didnt even question this years picks because i knew they were going to be good. ESPECIALLY with Quenton Nelson. I think he was the most secure pick in the NFL Draft. This guy is amazing...

I think it was a lot of this.  We clearly needed LB.  But I think there where so many players who's names that everyone had heard of left on the board.

A LOT of folks had a thing for Roquan Smith.

Let's see how they stack up at the end of season. I don't expect any of that "crow eating" stuff. It serves nothing. I would rather they didn't get on their high horse in the first place and respect the efforts of the front office until they are proven otherwise.

Yeah a lot of posters on here are being proven wrong on players. Leonard is one because he was apparently picked too high and we should have went with Josh Jackson.

Another is Hunt. Everyone has said it was a mistake letting Simon go, yet Hunt is out here playing

quality football.

Maybe, just maybe, Ballard knows what he’s doing.

I thought he was a reach. Never had a problem with the player, but didn't think he had that kind of demand. He now looks like a Pro Bowl caliber linebacker, so whether he might have been available a round later or not is immaterial. Hopefully he continues to play at a high level, and continues to develop.

I haven't seen too many games that weve played against Houston where either one was much of a factor.

So.....

Let's see if I got this straight...      The OP starts the thread with comments by Kiper about Darius Leonard.      The comments about Leonard are not only positive,  but he accurately calls Leonard a Day 2 draft pick.     There is nothing here for a Colts fan not to like.

And yet you call Kiper.....    "over rated."

Do you see the problem here?

I see no problem at all.   Kiper was correct in this case.   Kudos to him.

I still feel he is extremely overrated.

You are correct though, this topic should stay more about Leonard.

I was wondering who would take the leader role on this defense.   Hopefully Leonard steps up and takes it.
