Colts Sign WR Matt Hazel, RB Branden Oliver

I was not impressed with Hazel last year.

Ballard should have signed Devin Lucien, before the Patriots did last week.

 

Oliver has ties to Reich, and had some success in SD.

Had good college career playing for University at Buffalo SUNY

I see him as a decent acquisition.

I thought if the Colts put Cain on IR before final cuts, it exposes him to the waiver wire.

What about Oliver is attractive ???.....Certainly not his 2017 stats .

Yeah, I didn't realize the last time Oliver had a decent season was 2015.

But my guess is this pickup was influenced by Reich

Preseason body folks. Lots more choices to come when cutdowns happen. I doubt CB sees this as our answer at WR.

Hazel is not the answer but Oliver might have a shot

Yes, the Chargers had also drafted Melvin Gordon

These two signings tell me they like who they still have on the depth chart more than anything else.

 

Hazel won't outplay any of Williams, Brent, Pascal or Fountain....

 

Oliver, while he has experience in a version of Reich and Sirianni's offense previously, he's not filling the shoes of Turbin as the power back, and nor is he beating out Hines, Wilkins or Mack right now.

 

These are quite simply, camp bodies...

All these two signings mean is Ballard thinks these guys have more talent than two on the roster.

Ballard is always looking to up grade the roster when he can. The depth has a lot of room for better talent.

Can't say I know what Ballard sees in Hazel.  Has brought him in and out of the Colts roster since last year.

No only waiving him injured does that and they just placed him on IR therefor the colts still hold his rights.

I'd like to see more of Fountain showcased the next few games with the #1 offense. Oliver can get lost behind the OL at times, from what I have seen in the past, and that has helped him with making a few shoot-the-gap runs. Yes, he is a one cut runner, like others have alluded to.

Yup, and we need them.  Let them take a good number of snaps - especially in pre-season games.  Better them getting injured than the the guys we already have at those positions.

Fun fact Oliver was an udfa camp try out for the colts that never made the team back in 2015
