This is what is posted on NFL.com in the Injury Updates article ...

"3. Indianapolis Colts rookie wide receiver Deon Cain will undergo an MRI on his knee, Rapoport reported, adding that the team is concerned the injury might be serious."

Seeing tweets now by Holder and Wells that Reich has confirmed Cain has torn his ACL, done for season. Big blow!

On field ACL tests/diagnosis are quite accurate.  However, a team often waits until official MRI results confirm it before making a public statement. But they generally already know what the MRI will show, unfortunately.

Hoping it's not anything career changing.

Well, if it is serious, he will likely get back next season and the team gets to develop a WR in his absence.

Unfortunately when this happens to very young players the odds of making it are greatly reduced. Hope he can overcome this setback.

when someone "goes out with a knee", and then there is dead silence, no sideline report, no nothing....was not on the bench....it wasn't going to turn out well, i had already braced for the worst.  there is a hex on us.  Turbin, Castanzo, Cain, Mack, who else am i missing?  :flaming:

Sure if they are everyteam in the NFL.  Everyteam has season ending injuries.

Should've read "Typical NFL", in my opinion.

It's why the NFL product is mediocre now.  Any given time, someone goes down for the season.  Every team, every season.  By the time November rolls around, 1/3 of the people on the field are practice squad caliber players, because they are filling in for someone who is injured.  Sad.

Not like this one. Check the stats.

Yes but freaking out because one guy gets hurt for the year in the pre-season is a little overboard.  The Colts are from the only team to have a guy get hurt for the year in the pre-season.  If they had lost two or three key guys for the year in one game that would be different.  One injury isn’t out of the norm in fact it is the norm.

Exactly. I hate him being hurt and out but at least he was a rookie and is a young player who will heal and come back.

As far as team is concerned he wasn't a starter at this point so we have no choice but to move on. Freaking out does no good. For those who thought he would come in and be an impact player from the start have to keep in mind that very few rookie WRs crack the starting lineup and it takes a year or two to become accustom to the NFL.

This is a lovely way to come back from being at the casino! Getting sick of this garbage. Always happens to our draft picks it seems. This is the exact reason why I play fantasy football. Can't take all the injuries to the Colts like this. It never waivers, and we'll probably be in the bottom 5 again injury-wise when it's all said and done.

yea everybody is freaking out because there was a lot of hype around the kid, and truthfully i was excited to see what he could do as well. The facts are that he is a 6th round pick and our depth chart likely would be Hilton, Grant, Rogers with everyone else fighting for that 4th spot anyways. Its not the worst thing.

For WR and CB I'm sure Ballard has his staff watching all the preseason games looking for guys who perform well. I think he's going to make a couple moves at roster cut downs. Bringing in guys from the waiver. May also turn to a vet.

That's the way I understand it, too.

Plus an experienced trainer has a very good guess....

I've seen guys who can put his hands on your knee and leg and he knows what he should and shouldn't feel immediately

we weren't the only team to lose a rookie for the season on opening night of the pre-season..

Losing Guice for the year is alot worse for Washington.

I do agree here. I checked the Redskins site to see how bad they took it, and they are freaking out! Most are saying the season is over, or they would of preferred Alex Smith got hurt instead. It's bonkers over there lol!

We play them in Week 2. With our schedule we could actually start 2-0, Luck has never started 2-0 in his career.

Yeah, normally I don't like injuries a lot unless it's a player I hate (Vick or Kaepernick), but Guice getting his ACL tear probably gives us a win week 2. I know it's horrible to think that way, but we aren't guaranteed any wins the way the starting defense played in our first preseason game.

Oh yeah, I don't wish injury on anyone either but with him out it does give us a better chance to win.

He may have been a 6th round pick, but he showed in camp why he was said by most to have 2nd round talent. The one weed issue early in his college career (no big deal) and his production falling off when Watson left are what caused him to fall so far. He may have gone in the 6th, but he could have given us potentially 2nd round production and that's a sizable loss. I honestly think if he played like he did in camp that he would be WR2 by the end of the season. Hopefully he recovers well and is ready to go for next season. Luckily it happened early, so he'll have plenty of time to recover before camp next year.

I never saw it

Non contact ACL tears/ruptures are not the exception.

1 hour ago, 2006Coltsbestever said:

I didn't either, NewColts said he was just cutting and running when it happened. He wasn't even hit.

Exceptional deceleration on flat feet, IE: where sudden deceleration, landing and pivoting maneuvers are repeatedly performed, can easily cause one, among other situations.  Players are bigger, stronger, quicker, faster than ever.  But tendons and ligaments are still the same.  The forces exerted on them are much higher and thus the increased injury rates.  There have been many studies in the mechanics, and it is also found female athletes suffer this (non contact ACL) 2-8 times more than males.

I once read where a strength and conditioning expert felt year round weight (lift) training could significantly reduce/prevent the non contact ACL.  (Targeting the hips and legs, and particularly the glutes and hamstrings.  But not just during pre-season, but an all year program). This coupled with specialized running drills. Supposedly, this person had a dedicated group of athletes during three-year stretch in their athletic department of 21 sports and had zero ACL tears.  And when  he had years where the training room filled up, they stated it was fall athletes that had 'goofed off' all summer.

I feel there is, at minimum, a good amount of truth to their experience, and pro athletes that understand the importance of all year conditioning likely are more immune to non contact soft tissue injury.

Quite a shame.....for all those Rogers lovers, I hope he grows a pair when it counts as he came up short on two potential 1st downs.  Again, if he was being "smart" because it doesn't count then fine, if not......

I like Chester but I also liked what Cain brought to the table. Chester has no choice now, he needs to step up.

I believe you absolutely have to get Dez Bryant in here now.

It's good for everyone.  He wants a one year contract.  The Colts would not want to give him more than a one year contract.

He wants to be on a team with a good qb and offense.  The Colts have that.

It's a win win for everyone.

Agreed. He says he wants to play for a contender, we may get to the playoffs and have a chance with Luck healthy. His only other option is the Browns right now. Give him an offer Ballard. He'll be a solid no2 receiver for a year.

If it's only for 1 year we have nothing to lose actually and we are way under the Cap. If he is a dud, it was only for a year, then next offseason we Draft another WR or get one in Free Agency.

Agreed, also Dez hasn't been good in a few years. He can't separate anymore from the few games I've watched of him.

You won't be getting Dez from 5/6 years ago.
