Hopefully this coaching staff plays the better players.

For example is Deon Cain is out performing ryan grant or chester rogers  then he needs to be on the field.

The moment Antonio Morrison is starting in an athletic 4-3 linebacking corp.. then you're not playing the best players

Who is better than Morrison on the strong side?

Why would a coaching staff and front office with NO CONNECTION to Morrison  start him over a better player?

If AM starts, it's because there is no one better.    Doesn't mean he's great...   it only means there no one better.

I will say next year = 2019 if Luck is better than ever. Big IF right but he may be? I think in 2018, 8-8 or 9-7 is probable IMO with a healthy Luck. I have Posted 9-7 because I think it's possible if things fall our way. 9-7 could even get us a Playoff spot. We lost 6 games last season by 7 points or less and had a terrible Defense and no Luck. A healthy Luck, better Defense, perhaps better Coaching = what? I would say winning more close games and at worse 8-8.

This ..... this division sucks ballz. Jax got lucky .... Blake will suck AGAIN! Tenn is crap and Texans might be comp if Jackson is healthy. We only lost 5-6 games by a Few points last year ..... now add the key pieces we have added. Better O-line and a healthy Luck we got this! Don’t forget he took a #1 pick in the draft to the playoffs the next year. (Luck)

I am positive but not that bold. I love your Positive attitude. I can no doubt see 9-7 and a Playoff spot if Luck stays healthy. So I am on the Playoff bandwagon. I usually do my final predictions after Pre-Season so it's still early.

I hope you are right, I am not a big believer in Jacks either duplicating what they did last season but they look to me to be a 10-6 team. Great Defense but Bortles will blow them several games. Houston is a mystery to me? Watson's health and can JJ stay healthy - who knows? Tennessee has 8-8 wrote all over them IMO.

This such a moot argument.  Of course the coaching staff plays the better players.  They’re not risking their jobs by playing favorites.

They see the guys in practice and the meetings, that’s how they make their decisions.  They know a lot more than us about who’s the better player.

I too think this team is going to surprise some people. Although if you look at what Luck has done in his career to this point making the playoffs shouldn't be a surprise. He should have the best OL that we have run out for him. The best coaching staff that he has worked with by a country mile.  It would be more surprising to me if Luck didn't guide this team to the playoffs.

The big question is will he will be the same guy. I think so after he shakes off the rust he will  pick up right where he left off.  TY can get back to being TY. I think Ebron. is going to be a beast for us. and Turbin will surprise taking over for Gore. We need a couple of the young guys to step up to get the O really rolling.

I feel like the rest of the league has some how forgotten what an Andrew Luck lead team looks like. I remember and I expect everyone else will find out pretty quickly.

I’m hoping for the same thing. I don’t want them to be hesitant to play rookies because of what the vet in front of him makes, or because of some principle about starting rookies at a certain position. I want the best players on the field regardless of age, experience, salary, or play style. If Zaire Franklin outplays Morrison, then start him. If Cain is outperforming Grant, move him up on the depth chart.

I have Jacks winning the Division at 10-6 and Colts at 9-7 making the final Wildcard spot as my early prediction. So I feel comfortable with that prediction with #12 back. Of course if he gets injured again than all bets are off. Houston is the team that I cannot predict right now at all because of Watson's health and staying healthy, and JJ Watt's health as well. I don't think Tennessee will suck either, I see them 8-8 which is Average but not sucky.

What?  We can tell more about who the better players are by reading tweets and, maybe, going to a training camp or two.

All the coaches do is see them constantly in practices/meeting rooms/weight rooms and then review practice videos every night, test their knowledge of the playbook, etc.  They don't read tweets from Zak keefer and the like... what do they know.

This is what FANS do right? We try to respect other teams but we will ALWAYS root for our team.  Are you looking for a new middle name? NewTexansFan? NewTitansFan? NewJaxFan?

Just busting your ball bro.

We could finish last in this division with a good record - it's going to be very close.

I do say we take 4 of our division games and have a really solid home record (say 6-2 or even 7-1) and be right in the mix for a wildcard spot.

My early prediction says 9-7 and a Wildcard which actually could happen. That is of course if Andrew gets the blood flow back in his throwing arm, I hope he does  otherwise we may need another QB because his arm may fall off :funny:

Playing the best player at a position seems like a no brainer, but history suggests differently when RG/CP were leading the Colts.

I would hope the new regime is smarter than the last and will at least try to win games using the top players at their position.

When splitting hairs between two equally performing players, I hope that youth wins out and that player is given the chance to develop further with the experience of playing games with the live bullets flying.

Take a deep breath and then exhale! Feel better? Don't over think everything. Let the process work it's way.

It's no use to Chicken little," The Sky is falling"  to premature assume the worst. My point is don't over analyze

every move. You have the right to second guess after the fact. but always expect the worst prematurely.

Well, coaches play veterans over youth because they make fewer mistakes. Right?  We don't have a lot of veterans on this team, so the young guys will get lots of playing time.  They'll make mistakes but hopefully learn from them.

I think,it's going to be a really fun team to pull for. Look for creative offensive plays and defensive  interceptions. This team is being built for that.

There's going to be players out there that will leave us scratching our heads. This team still needs a lot of work. The offense is primarily a young offense now. The defense had some key areas revamped through the draft. But we're still not there yet. Antonio Morrison may very well be out there due to experience. It takes a bit to catch on. Also, while it's good to be pessimistic, the whole AFC South just got stronger. Our wide receiver corp is pretty much completely new. I hope we can move the ball effectively. I think we're still a step behind but not by too much because of Andrew Luck.

I’m not saying the eagles are a monster but they’ve been built through the draft and bringing in young talent. That “monster” I speak of is what we are doing bring in competitive competition to build and feed of each other like the eagles did .... the eagles weren’t the best team in the play offs nor in the SB .... plus they didn’t have their starting QB but because of what they had built and brought in they were a monster and thus my reference ..... wether they win 1-2 more doesn’t matter IMO .... they’ve built there team right and made the right calls/players like I believe CB, and our staff can, is and will do.

I shake my head sometimes.  No Bortles isn't all that good, let alone great. However, he was put in against the Colts in 9/2014.  I was there and we were up 30-0 at half.  They scored 17 to our 14 in the second half where Bortles was brought in to put Chad Henne on the bench.  And I watched him make our D look silly in pass rush (especially B. Werner).

Jax tried to put Henne back in game 3 pre-season last year (dress rehearsal to take Blake's Job for 2017") and was promptly put back on the bench giving Bortles the job again.  Bortles suck season actually was last year (besides rookie year). His 2 prior years were better than 2017. Still, his stats last were better than Jacoby Brissett's, and those of Trent Dilfer with the SB winning Ravens-

ATT     CMP      C%       YDs      TD    INT     Y/A     Record
J Brissett

276     469    58.8     3098     13     7      6.6     4 - 11

B Bortles

315     523    60.2     3687     21     13     7.0     10 - 6

T Dilfer

134     226     59.3     1502     12     11     6.6     7 - 1

And he whooped up on the Texans, Ravens, and Seahawks in the process (and yes, while also producing the snicker inducing 87 yds passing, 88 yds running panic/please don't lose it) game. BB has enough There there to win a SB with their defense. He has some magic in his play, to go with some bone head screw-ups, and is becoming vet enough to minimize the latter.  The Jags did extend him rather than trade up for a franchise QB...

Yes, the Pats beat them in the AFC game after being down 20-10, but that just adds the Jags to the notch list (Old Raiders, Seahawks, Falcons, and now the Jags too).

Bortles has no doubt had his Good moments, I thought he played well at the Pats in the AFC Title Game and Great at Pittsburgh. That does say alot but look at how he played vs Buffalo. Jacks couldve easily lost in the WildCard Round. I don't think the man stinks but he is inconsistent and real Bad at times. Yeah there have been at least 10 Posters or so that said Luck is done and at least another 10 or so that still don't think he can stay healthy or will never be the same. I don't call people out by names because I am not like that but they know who they are. All of the Luck believers may be proven wrong but I doubt it. Last offseason and this offseason is completely different. Luck is in way better shape and Ballard wouldn't of traded our #3 pick if he didn't have a great idea that Luck would be healthy and ready to go.

    • I know, if I remember right you were saying we look like an 8-8 team a while back that was after the Draft and Free Agency (with Luck). 8-8 compared to 4-12 is much better. I am sure there will be 2 or 3 games that can turn ugly on us. Like at Philly and at NE. I want to see how we play the Jags with Luck back, that will be real interesting.
    • There’s no part of me that thinks we will be bad.    Seriously.    But I think there’s a better than 50/50 chance that we might get schooled once or twice  this season.      New inexperienced coaching staff (which I like at this point) plus young inexperienced players is a recipe for a few games getting out of hand.   We might get spanked once or twice.   But I hope we all feel good by the end of the season.
    • Yeah making the Playoffs at 9-7 is a 50/50 thing. Some teams do, some teams don't. Usually 10-6 gets you in but that doesn't always either. 8-8 is very fair on your part as you at least don't think we will be Bad.
    • I would probably say as of now, this fits each category for someone's prediction:   6-10 = People think we will suck again. Luck may even get injured again or be rusty most of the season. Our Defense will be Bad again. Reich won't do a Good job, etc..   7-9 = People thinking we are still Bad and wont win the close games but will show improvement.    8-8 = Reasonable and a safe way of thinking, it is probable this happens.   9-7 = Reasonable but just being more optimistic and thinking Luck will play all 16 games and be 100% + the Defense and O.Line will be better. The new system under Reich will benefit the team.   10-6 = A Stretch, alot of things will have to go our way like I mentioned in the 9-7 category. We need more breaks to win 10 though, not as many to go 9-7.   11-5 = A huge stretch and everything right has to go our way.
    • I was talking about the 2012 team which you were noting had very little talent.   And I agreed.    But they made the playoffs because those vets who weren't very good played hard and made fewer mistakes.   That's how a less talented team made the post-season.
