Wow I didn't see that coming either I knew we had a lot of DEs but I really liked Anderson

Ballard has lost a lot of the faith I had in him with this move.

Unlike a lot of other receivers in this class, Deon Cain has the potential to be a number one receiver.

However, he needs A LOT of work. Too many drops and he's not a good route runner. Having a better quarterback should help him out though.

I'm still worried about the linebacker and cornerback depth so I don't exactly feel good about drafting two running backs and two wide receivers today.

Also I can't believe a guy like Marquez Valdes-Scantling goes before Equanimous St. Brown.

Henry Anderson doesn't fit this system. He's quick enough to be a 4-3 end and he's not big enough to be a DT. He needs to be in a 3-4.

I was honestly expecting both Henry Anderson and Margus Hunt to be cut before the 53-man roster was set, so at least we got something for Anderson even though it was not much.

I'd at least give him a shot. We have absolutely nothing on defense right now. A 7th is worthless

I don't disagree about the concern over the lack of depth specifically at linebacker. However, the linebacker depth in this draft was not predicted to be good. Specifically when you are looking for ones with speed like the Colts. The Colts got more talented prospects at RB and WR today than they would have if they selected a linebacker or cornerback.

We really haven't determined if what the draft pick we got for him is not much. This pick may stick over a couple of others for all we know?

We just drafted two DEs and we still have Bashum, Sheard, and Simon. I don't think Anderson was making the roster anyway.

Just how do you know a 7th rounder is worthless?  Some of the best players in the league come out of late rounds.

Being negative before the pick is even made just shows you are just a negative person.

I saw Frank Reich was on ESPN not long ago. Did anyone catch what he said?

I'd much rather give Anderson a shot over anyone available in the 7th. If that's being negative then so be it

I am so happy Rutgers DT Sebastian Joseph-Day got drafted by the Rams. Always a team-first player and gave it his all every single day.

Colts definitely had interest in him as he was a player in the top 30 visits.

@NFLfanColby Gossett is a nice pick for you IMO. He has starter potential. He was top 10 guard prospect on my board.

Btw, has Meeks been chosen yet? I went out after we picked the kicker and I am not home yet.

How about this kid from Temple? His last name is Chandler, I believe.

I don't remember him being chosen. It's a bit of a surprise IMO.

edit: I haven't watched Chandler.

Ade Aruna - another Minny special. He's the exact type they draft in later rounds - great explosive athlete. Developmental prospect.

Even if we use our next 2 picks on a CB we cannot trust our current CB dept. I think we should look at free agency immediately.

Bashaud Breeland comes to mind he recently failed a medical with the Panthers because of an infected cut on his foot which we would need assurances on.

We should also add some more dept at safety esp after Hooker's injury last season. S, Tre Boston hasn't any lasting injury concerns. In 2017, he started 15 games at free safety for the Chargers, recording career-highs of 79 tackles, eight passes defensed, and five interceptions. Chargers just signed a 1st round safety so I think they wont sign him again.

Any free agency suggestions?

Another linebacker I have no idea about. I hope we go after Matthew Thomas out of FSU if he's not drafted. I think he has good potential.

Which lucky team is the 2018 NFL Draft Champions?

I think most people will say the Giants or Broncos but I liked what the Patriots did. Isaiah Wynn and Sony Michel were great picks late in the first. Braxton Berrios is the type of receiver who excels in their offense. And I love watching Ja'whaun Bentley. I thought Bentley was underrated this past season. I think he will produce in the NFL.

    • Real NBA pundits, coaches and execs were parroting "Jump shooting teams cannot win in the NBA" and "You need low post presence to win" just like... 5-10 years ago. Data and analysis about the value of the 3 has been available for close to 20 years. You underestimate just how married people are to their old ways and how hard it is to teach the old dog new tricks, especially when this is all they've known for their whole lives and now you are telling them what they've been taught for 20-30-50 years is wrong. Some will adapt and flourish, most won't...    My favorite quote that encapsulates perfectly the situation comes from a field that is MUCH more open to new ideas than football - science. And even there, there is a long history of resistance to new ideas. Physicist Max Planck once said "Science advances one funeral at a time". What he meant was that science doesn't advance by convincing the old guard that the new ideas are correct, but by the old timers just dying out and the new generation unburdened by emotional attachments to the old stuff being allowed to just follow where the evidence points to.    BTW I do NOT think the run game is meaningless or that it doesn't have a role to play in today's game. It is extremely important in situational football, in end of game situations, in goalline and 3d and 4th and short situations, etc. I just do not think it serves anyone any good perpetuating myths about its importance for things that have been repeatedly shown to not correlate to run-game success.
    • For those that wanted Suh, hes off the board.   https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/05/21/ndamukong-suh-expected-to-sign-with-buccaneers/
    • The problem is the secondary is really hard to watch from the angles we are getting on TV and the fans general population doesn't dissect in detail what's happening ... they just see the big plays - the interceptions, the big pass-breakups, or a big missed tackle etc... they don't see when the QB doesn't even throw the ball because of perfect coverage or threat of playmaking by players like Hooker. The real insane stat here is 1 reception per 130 snaps... that's like ... once every 2.5 games or thereabout... there is a value to what Hooker provides both as a playmaker and as a deterrent for opposing QB's even thinking about throwing deep.
    • My gripe with Stitches view is these coaches have access to this same data that you're quoting. They have all kinds of stat men in the building with them.  I don't think they are oblivious to any of this stuff.  Then you've got actual football coaches in this forum like Coffedrinker and Princeton Tiger and very few of them really down play the importance of running the football and what it does for your passing game.  I just can't buy that all of them are just merely being stubborn and ignoring the data for age long myths.  I think there's a better reason why coaches still keep that mantra.
    • he got off to a slow start last year, but everyone had to notice his interception on eli and his solid play overall by the end of the year   fans just go by what they see, and that can change a lot week to week.
