Will we ever see another Troy Polamalu?

I don't know if there was ever a safety like Troy Polamalu before Troy Polamalu, and I don't think there will ever be another safety like Troy Polamalu.  There have been cover guys like Ed Reed, and hard hitters like Kam Chancellor, and guys that did both like Bob Sanders, but nobody did everything that Polamalu did on the football field.

 

He is the most instinctual defensive football player I've ever seen, and was like a magnet with the football once it was snapped.  Who else jumps on the QBs back 0.01 seconds after the snap?

 

Bob Sanders is my favorite safety of all time, but Polamalu deserves a place on the Mt. Rushmore of NFL safeties.

No, because hard-hitting safeties are obsolete. Now, it's all about speedy skinny safeties who can't tackle, and it's only going to get worse when they can't lower their helmet. Oh well, it's a passing league anyways: You get PD's and INT's, you're well on your way.

Troy was a big risk taker...plenty of examples of him guessing wrong giving up big plays. I think great qbs could exploit him...but overall he was a special player because he paid with such a passion and ferociousness.
