@DaveA1102, if you want the Jags, I'll give them to you. I have no problem doing one team. I originally picked them from the last two teams so we could start faster. If you want to play, I'll hand over the reigns to you. Let me know.

Thanks Jared, I will take you up on that if you don't mind?  I don't claim to have a massive depth of draft knowledge but seems a while before I need to pick so will do some research.

Jags are quite an interesting prospect as a lot of holes already filled so hopefully even I can't botch plugging some players in there! haha

Only concern may be time zones being in Scotland but will ensure @chad72 is informed via PM if this looks like it may an issue.

CC: @OffensivelyPC thanks for the offer too.

The team is yours. If you can't be up for the pick, send a list of a few players that you prefer in order to chad and he'll make sure you get who you want. I like that you're from Scotland, have a girlfriend (friend that is a girl lol), from there, and she's pretty cool. Have fun being in the mock with us!

You got it.  It doesn't have to be like a 2 hour research project or anything.  You can go as in depth as you choose or you can just take your favorite players. Me personally, I like to immerse myself in it and I typically look at a couple of needs from a handful of trustworthy sources (i.e. nfl.com, ourlads depth charts, for my own assessment, other team forums, like this one, to see what others who are invested in that team think, etc.) and the type of system they run on offense and defense, and tendencies that my team prefers from players at the positions I am looking at.  Then figure out who, of the positions of need, are the players I think they would like for that team's system.

If there are like 7 picks between when you are looking and when you pick, you can send a PM with a kind of like "big board" with 7 names so that no matter who is taken before you, you will get one of those guys.  If you list them from best to worst, then you'll get whoever you like most that remains on that list.  If you only give one name and that guy ends up being taken before your next login, you're kinda at the mercy of what others think you should do.

Just have fun with it!

The Patriots are on the clock @danlhart87

You don't think Mason Rudolph or Lamar Jackson are round 1 worthy? You are happy with A.J.McCarron, huh? Just curious what your thought process is here. You get to develop them for 5 years as a first round pick, just saying. :)

Patriots are looming around to get Brady's successor, that would put a wrench in teams that need QBs too, just something to consider. They did spend a 2nd on Garropolo and they have a 2nd rounder ahead of the Bills second rounder. I think that it would be a mistake on the Bills part to not draft a QB here because of that.

Jackson is a poor man's version of Teddy Bridgewater in my mind, so the 2nd round might be appropriate, but I wouldn't feel very comfortable with it.  There are only 4 1st round QBs in my estimation, and they've all been taken.  Mason Rudolph is the better prospect and I might try and make a push for him at some point, we'll see.

That being the case, you can take this quote to the bank, "Our approach here in Buffalo is that we are going to build a roster with players who's pick is warranted based on our grades.  We won't reach for need and if we can't find our QB in this year's draft, we want to be sure we have a high caliber roster built so that when we do find that guy, he's not walking on to a roster that's been adeptly built by wasting resources.  OffensivelyPC" - Michael Scott

Draft grades are just relative, IMO, very much like the trade value chart, a reference but not a rigid line.

Kelvin Hayden was a 5th rounder, we got him in round 2. Marlin Jackson was a 2nd rounder, we got him at the end of round 1. I can cite many more examples from Polian's era, and I am sure other fans of other teams can do the same from their team's history. Pick No.22 is closer to the end of the 1st, so a top of the 2nd round rated QB going at the end of round 1 is really not a biggie, IMO.

For a team to move up to No.12 suggests that they are serious about getting a QB, especially after giving up a QB that took them to the playoffs, suggesting their roster is talented enough with an average QB to get to the playoffs. That is why I think Buffalo will come out of the draft with a QB.

Great show reference though. :)

Pittsburgh was targeting Vander Esch and Evans but they're both gone. With a team like Pittsburgh which has few needs, the GM can gamble and select someone who may not contribute now but can be groomed to take over in a couple of years. With that said,

With the 28th pick of the 2018 NFL Draft the Pittsburgh Steelers select Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville.

@DaveA1102 and the Jaguars are on the clock.

    • No.   You weren’t.   If you were the least bit sincere, we’d be having these conversations in private.  But you’ve repeatedly ignored my efforts to do that.  Your call.      Then you avoid me until I’m in an uncomfortable conversation with another poster.   You use that awkward moment as an excuse for you to come in with some sincere friendly advice.   The problem is, you’re neither sincere, nor friendly.  And you’ve been doing this for months now.  This is not new.   The pattern is clear and obvious.     And the shame of it all is that even with our different views on Ballard we have enough in common that we should be friendly.  Maybe not friends, but friendly.  You wouldn’t need to address me as “Sir.”    “Good deed going unpunished”.  You flatter yourself.     But your actions speak much louder than your words.   There’s no reason for me to trust you.  And here we are.  A real shame.
    • In a year when the Colts were in serious need of a QB and in position to draft one, Ballard came up in front of the media 3 days before the draft and straight up said something to the effect of "That guy everybody in media is talking about(Levis), we are not taking him". I don't know why you think the Colts are trying to throw us off the scent this year specifically. They are not trying to give us away the pick(thus the vagueness), but I also don't really think they are trying to mislead anybody. This usually becomes specifically apparent in retrospect after the draft when you look back at a lot of those quotes in the videos they release pre-draft... and they were talking precisely about players we ended up drafting, which they reveal in the post-draft video by extending some of those quotes(they did that with AR last year for example).    And about why people are doing it(guessing who they are talking about) - because it is fun. Nobody has the illusion that we will be right in our guesses 100% of the time... or anywhere close really... but it's still fun. And it's part of why the Colts release those videos with those quotes - to create engagement with the fanbase... part of which, and the entirety of which that 70 pages thread and whole board is about in the offseason. is to guess who the Colts might take and how they might feel about specific prospects.
    • Sir, I was just trying to help you out. No good deed goes unpunished!
    • Not the least bit surprised to hear from you at this moment.   You see me in an uncomfortable conversation (with a moderator no less) and you seize the moment to take a shot at me.  And you try to act like you’re giving me a sincere explanation of what you’re doing.   Like you have an ounce of credibility with me.      This is not the first time you’ve done this.  While I may not be surprised, I’m certainly disappointed.
    • Things have now gone from bad to worse.     After I explained myself, I was kind of hoping you’d simply come back with “I’m sorry, I misunderstood you,  may bad.”  And we’d be done with this.  It would be over.      But instead, you double down on the roommate issue and follow up by questioning everything I said by breaking down some of my comments and what you think I really meant by them.     In other words, you’re telling me my motive, my meaning, as if you know my meaning better than I do.    It’s interesting to me…. I was recently told there’s an unofficial moderator policy:  don’t attack the poster, attack the argument.    Well, I don’t see that here.  You attacked me personally the first time and instead of a simple apology, you’ve double downed on a bad hand by attacking me personally AGAIN.      Why you’re comfortable telling me you know my meaning , my intention, better than I do is mystifying to me.  And frankly, I think you’re comfortable doing this because one of us is a moderator, and it certainly is NOT me.     I’ll say it again: you misunderstood my meaning, and intention,  the first time, and you’ve misunderstood me even worse the second time.   As I said before, I’m happy to withdraw and apologize for “go figure”, but the negative inference was not my intention.  Poorly phrased, I give you (in two posts now).   I don’t know what else to say…. I’m hoping this brings this very unfortunate exchange to an end.
