It wouldn't be too crazy to see this happen. The Patriots have traded for big names before in the past. Gronk has also contemplated retirement, so a trade would make sense, as the Pats try to salvage what they can out of him. No word on who the two teams are.

Great football player but he's been injured so much. Hard to believe he would want to keep playing more than a couple more seasons.

Bill Belichick does not care who you are. He’ll trade you if he sees it better for the team or if you get on his bad side.

They aren't going to get much. He's the best TE in the NFL when he's healthy...but he has lingering health issues.

 

And then add the uncertainty surrounding his commitment to playing next year...and you have even more questions. If he is already talking about retirement, how does a trade to a new team help that? If anything, I think it would push him closer to that.

 

And even if he does play, how long does he play? 

 

Just looking at all of the trades that have occurred this offseason, I can't see Gronk fetching what many would deem to be "fair value" for NE.

Hard to think you would get much for someone openly contemplating retirement. But I do like to see the Pats crumble.

Easily, the one that will pull the trigger, is the 49ers. Jimmy G with Gronk would be a nightmare to defend with his ability to move around and quick release and Gronk's soft hands to catch pretty much everything thrown his way.

A guy contemplating retirement due to injury buildup.  I'd be surprised if they got anything higher than a Day 3 pick.  Seems more high risk/low reward to me.
