Refresh my Memory.. did Joe Addai return any punts last year?

Addai is the last guy you want to get an injury while on special teams play. He's too valuable to the offense.

I couldn't agree more. We didn't pay him a ton of money to get hurt on special teams. This guy can still play I'm tired of everyone knocking him and Donald and the special teams. There is common problem with our Offense and Special teams and that is the blocking. I think the draft picks this year will help improve both special and O line problems.

No but I do remember bethea running a punt back and I was worried then about him getting hurt and would not like to see him repeat, even though he was pretty good.

Bethea has never returned punts for the Colts. What you may remember was a field goal attempt by the Titans that was short and he returned at the end of the first half. To my knowledge that was the only return he ever had.

I've actually wondered before why we haven't at least tried this. Joe Addai is often criticized by people (myself included) for doing some sort of a rain dance along the Line of Scrimmage. :panic:

That's actually something to be valued on Punt Returning.. BUT, Joe is something to be valued... healthy. (And Lord knows that's hard enough as it is!)

Basically, probably wont happen, but I randomly remember us putting back Harrison for a punt return in one of his last seasons. So it's not outside the realm of possibility, but highly unlikely.

I would disagree with that. The best punt returner the Colts had last year was White and that was because he did not do any dancing. He was one cut and get upfield - there was not too much east-west at all.

I'm talking home-run potential. Very rarely do you see someone one-cut and run all the way into the endzone. Guys like DeSean Jackson, Devin Hester, Joshua Cribbs, Leon Washington, [etc..} all have great lateral movement. They can turn on the jets when they need to, but all of those guys have the skillset to make several guys miss on the way to the house.

Understand what you are saying with regards to those guys, but as it relates to Addai I don't his skillset translates to returns.

We need a return guy that can actually return!!! White was 90% fair catch - he has no speed! Can't remember last good kick return man we had or last time we had a return TD? Can anyone remember that??????????

I think the last return TD we had was the Hagler offside kick play.

Maybe we should have linebackers returning (secret weapon!)

Phil B Wilson of the Star has a tweet out there where he quotes an official who says that kickoffs will eventually be done away with.

I agree. They are plays that seem to provide the most injuries, and with our injury-sensitive society today they are eventually going to get the NFL in hot, hot water.

It would be a HUGE backlash to the sport if the Kevin Everett injury happened this season or last...

That's why they moved the kickoff location up: to force more touchbacks and have less returns.

Ignore the troll.. aka koolaid drinker. Nothing but a pot stirrur. Always degrading someone to try and make him/her feel better.

Btw, Addai did return punts in college. Wasn't too bad at it. And seeing how the colts are terrible at it, couldn't hurt the return game any.

    • I don't think players like Davis (and especially Bryan, who I don't think will make the final 53) should impact our draft strategy at all. Not even a little bit. If we like Byron Murphy, figure out what to do with those other guys later. The other versatile guys you mention don't scratch the itch the way Murphy would be expected to -- he should be looked at as a disruptive 3T who plays there every down, not a matchup guy or passing downs guy.    If anything, maybe it's the other way around. The Colts already had a feel for the DTs in draft class and knew they wouldn't get what they want in the draft, so they addressed the position in free agency. And after this weekend, that might help people better understand the strategy at DB and WR...    The bolded really gets at the heart of it. I like Murphy, but I'm not offering him as a great player that you just have to take a chance on. But when it comes to draft strategy, I think taking the best players is the way to go. I'm directly opposed to needs-based drafting, and to passing on a really good prospect because you have backup level veterans already on the roster.
    • I suppose Murphy being the next Donald is possible, but I wouldn’t think it’s likely.     As for Smith playing right tackle, I believe I was simply echoing Ballard’s initial viewpoint.  That Smith’s short arms made him an unlikely RT.  And that he had to be talked into it by Morocco Brown and Ed Dodds.   I don’t think I was stating MY personal view.    As for skillset vs measurements.  I think it’s been an issue for all of us because Ballard has such specific requirements for each position.  So we factor that into our judgements.
    • Bold prediction?    I will predict either Kwity or Pierce will be traded sometime during the draft.
    • I will post a few mock drafts from people who are really highly ranked in The Huddle Reports' mock draft competitions over the last few years:   Brendan Donahue(tied for highest score over the last 5 years) https://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/analysis/2024-nfl-mock-draft-brendan-donahue/ Interesting things:  -Vikings trade up to 5 for McCarthy -Colts get Brock Bowers at 15.    Eddie Brown(tied for highest score over the last 5 years) https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/2024-nfl-mock-draft-eddie-brown-s-final-first-round-projections/ar-AA1nCo1i Interesting things: - JC Latham at 5 to the Chargers(Jeremiah has the same pick) - Rome Odunze to the Giants at 6, Nabers to Atlanta at 8 - Philly trades up to 12 for Quinyon Mitchell - Colts get Brock Bowers(seems to be a trend...)     David P. Woods(3d highest score over the last 5 years): https://www.thescore.com/nfl/news/2900023 Interesting things:  - Vikings trade up to 5 for McCarthy(seems like this is the current divide - this pick will be either Latham to the Chargers or Vikings trade up) - Odunze to Giants at 6!!! Nabers to Atlanta at 8. Second one with those specific picks.  - Colts get Quinyon Mitchell   Ben Standig (3 times Huddle report mock draft champion!): https://www.benstandig.com/post/ben-standig-s-2024-nfl-mock-draft-final Interesting things:  - Vikings trade up to 5 for McCarthy - Colts TRADE UP to 8 for Odunze!! Interesting....    Sean Green(Last year's Huddle report mock draft co-champion): https://www.sportsgamblingpodcast.com/2024/04/23/2024-nfl-mock-draft-sean-green-final-mock-draft/ Interesting things:  - Nabers goes 4 to Arizona, MHJ 6 to Giants - Chargers go Taliese Fuaga at 5.  - Colts get Quinyon Mitchell
    • Much better bounce back Tuesday. They seemed to find a certain confidence they lacked Sunday. The defense was really good. They weathered the Lillard storm and seemed to bother him more as the game went on.
