Colts trying to bring Pugh in for visit

Recommended Posts

YES!! Get him in the building and have a deal by the time he leaves, I really like adding Pugh to our O-Line

Only concern is back.  Reason for Pugh on IR last year.  His Doctor cleared him.  Needs to pass our Physical.

Would still look to draft a Guard high

His back injury wasn't structural, (unlike Mewhort's knees which will never be completely healthy) so he won't be predisposed to re-injurying it.

I really think Pugh could be a steal in this year's FA, when you factor in that he did have an injury and he had a down year playing OT, when his best position is Guard.

Hopefully that's a good sign for us

This is a good sign. Pugh would be a very nice addition to our OL. Even better if paired w/ Jensen. It's surprised me how little interest teams have shown in him.

Can you elaborate on his back injury? Was it only muscular? A back injury can be very debilitating for a lineman & it always frightens me away from signing a player with such issues. I'm very curious to know if his injury will perhaps not be a lingering issue. Because if that's true, I'm all in for signing him.

It was only a muscle problem, usually when back injuries are a lingering problem there has been a deformity in the structure of the spinal column and that will cause more problems like have bulging disks, that will eventually need fusion surgery. Since Pugh's injury was only muscle the chance of re-injurying or having lingering problems is significantly diminished because there wasn't any bone or cartilage damage.

Cartilage pretty much doesn't repair, that's why Mewhort will always have lingering problems with his knees, and for him I think he can only be signed as a backup because I don't think he can play a full season with how messed up his knee cartilage is.

Do you have a source for this information? I would feel much better about bringing him aboard if this can be verified.

I know full well about structural deformity & bulging discs. I am a 3 level fusion patient. Perhaps this is why I'm so gun shy when it comes to hearing about a potential player with back issues.

Perfect.  Let's hope Irsay's plane was there waiting for him. Jensen and Pugh = a huge improvement for our OL.  Come in Chris.  You know what to do.  Sign him and pay him for his versatility.  He's a starter.

Here's a source

"guard Justin Pugh has been cleared to resume all football activities after an MRI revealed no structural damage in his back, per a source informed of the situation. The injury, which sidelined Pugh for the final four games of the season, was determined to be a muscle issue by specialist Dr. Robert Watkins"

Is it neural or muscular.  Muscular not bad.  Neural depends on how bad.

So does this mean Jensen and Pugh are both in the building together?  Maybe Ballard will show them both signing at the same time.  That would be great theatre.  Then on to St. Elmos to celebrate.

I dont think we've heard anything about Pugh actually making a visit yet. The only report was that they wanted to bring him in. Also dont know if Jensen is still in the building or not, I think we would have heard if he left without a deal.

I’m not holding my breath that we’ll sign any quality free agents with how things are going for the Colts. Ballard seems to be going cheap as of late. Not bringing back Melvin on a 1 year, 6.5 mil deal is ridiculous in my opinion.

We weren't getting him for 6.5 he wanted like 10 per yr from us.

Here's the source it was muscular, neural would of been a lot more serious of an injury

Ok.  Muscular can reoccur.

It can but with proper rehab its highly unlikely, while problems like Cartilage or neural, can linger or have permanent damage

We really need Pugh now.  No ands or ifs about it.  We need to bring in the RT from the Patriots as well. Fleming I think.  Ballard has to get this OL addressed. If we don't get it fixed in FA we will have to take Nelson with the 3rd if we stay there.  It still would be better to trade back and take the next best OL in the draft along with all of the other picks we acquire.  We can't let Luck get hurt again. We have to do every thing we can to help him.  This is nuts.

Fleming or trade for James from Miami. Hopefully with all of their signings and being up against the cap will lower their price for him. Maybe could be had for like a 6th?

OMG.  What a nightmare so far in FA.   Ballard appears to be very slow even in just bringing players in.  And you know from conversations at the combine and during the legal tampering period they have a good idea what neighborhood of dollars they are looking for.  This is hard to believe especially regarding our OL.  What a mess.
