Who needs free agents when we got Jeremy Vujnovich, Luke Rhodes and Chris Milton coming back into the fold!

Free agency is not completely over yet. On the flip side the Colts did not grossly overpay for players which is smart. The Colts will get better and younger via the NFL draft in late April.

Miami Dolphins have had it worst these last few days. They traded away their best WR (Landry) and released DT Suh.

This article is from 2015: https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2015/3/13/8205529/2015-nfl-free-agency-grades-winners-losers-jets-bills-jaguars-colts

SB Nation elected the Colts as one of their 9 winners of free agency 2015. We all know how that season ended. Btw, it is interesting to browse through the other 8 "winners" there. The Jaguars finished with 5-11, Falcons 8-8, Colts 8-8, Philly 7-9, Chargers 4-12, Bears 6-10, all missing the playoffs. Only the Cardinals (13-3) and the Texans (9-7) reached the playoffs (where the Texans lost 0:30 to the Chiefs at home in the wild card round).

So, the only real winners were the Cardinals, who were contenders even without free agency. Btw, Yahoo put the Chiefs (who beat the Texans 30:0) amongs the top5 loosers, and CBS put the Panthers (who went to the Superbowl) amongs their top loosers.

You just can't win or loose in free agency. You can add pieces, but ultimately you have to kill your drafts, and even more importantly you have to COACH your team well.

Well..duh. We are 2 years in to the "3 year rebuild" The problem is how do we have the nerve to call it a rebuild if we don't try to improve the team?

Agreed but speaks somewhat to media opinion of the Colts approach thus far.

"Winning" in March seems to have little correlation to winning in January.

Who cares what someone else thinks about the team you follow. First of all, sports opinions are no longer informative.....they are completely designed to get viewership through clicks and links to their articles. They seek anger and frustration because those emotions are better at driving people to do just what this thread is....link! Clicks are OK, but links are golden in the success tally.

Just take this board for an example. If I or someone started a thread about personnel packages on the field, a few people would post and it would quickly die. But start a thread that ticks, frustrates, or embarrasses a fan, and it goes 9 pages.

Talk is fun, and it is the offseason, but try and realize that if you are embarrassed by the actions of your team, seriously consider what your priorities are in life. It's a sport for fun and entertainment. If it is not entertaining, then why let it tear you up?

Nicely done.  Sometimes staying out of free agency makes you the FA winner!

You not only have to kill your drafts, you have to kill the UDFA and "cut" markets as well. How many guys have fans on here been drooling over throughout the last few years, who started out as undrafted and maybe bounced around on a couple of practice squads before they really stuck? Norwell is a prime example. No team wanted to spend even a 7th round pick on him in 2014. Four years later he's the highest paid guard in the NFL.

The New York Post?

Who?   Flipping?   Cares?!?

A local paper who doesn't understand how free agency works.

Much ado about NOTHING!!

Marlins fans have been wondering the same thing for years.

Does winning the free agency season get you an automatic slot in the playoffs?  If so we better get busy.  If not I'll wait until Oct to see how this team is shaping up.

I'd agree with the article SO FAR.   However Ballard could still improve this team with some key signings.

Funny how just over a month ago the national sports media was "all in" on the Colts being able to turn things around quickly based on the high draft picks, a new coaching staff, the return of Luck(?) and the huge cap space which would allow the Colts to elevate their talent level with some Pro Bowl caliber players.

Rhodes was good at long snapper last year but the other two are garbage.

    • We're trending upwards so that's an improvement from last year. The red zone stuff will sort itself out I think.  Reich and Siri have some film of what wrong. If they're competent coaches they'll see what we're doing wrong and react accordingly, play calling wise.   Not to derail with a Luck comment, but some are definitely overreacting on his arm strength. The guy was on a pitch count in training camp. Those arm muscles are still working their way back. He didn't look like Chad Pennington out there like some make it seem. His throw at I think 2:15 in the first to TY was a laser out route to the far side of the field. That's a hard their to make. Plus the ball is heavier when wet. He looks strong and he'll improve
    • Leonard is a Colts lb who can actually blitz. Would be great to see Tom just eat dirt after being slammed down on a perfectly timed blitz.   We definitely look better overall as a team.
    • Remember when Mathis said something special was brewing? Guess he wasn't just blowing smoke.
    • Agree w/OP. Much to be happy with and build upon!
    • Our D is truly much better than originally expected. How good, only time will tell.   Pats will get it going. They always do. Brady and Belichick always do. And Gordon will likely be up to speed and balling out by the time we play them. Hopefully the Fins pop them next week, and when they play us they are looking forward to the Cheifs.
