Trade:

 
Colts trade 5th round pick and conditional 2019 3rd round pick to Dolphins for Ja’Wuan James (condition being if James re-signs with Colts after 2018). Dolphins are reportedly going to cut him if they can't find a trading partner, but I'd say it'd be worth a trade to not get into a bidding war for a solid upgrade at RT. 
 
 
Re-sign:
 
Jack Mewhort - 4mil / 1yr - Give him a prove it deal, but be ready to sign a veteran backup who you'd feel okay with starting if he can't stay healthy. 
Pierre Dessir - 1.5 mil / 1yr - Proved to be good depth last year.
Mike Person - 800k / 1yr - Same comment as for Dessir. I thought he filled in well. 
 
 
Free Agent Signing:
 
T.J. Carrie, CB (Raiders) - 30mil / 4yr - Coming off a good year for Oakland, we could use an infusion at the CB1 position. Carrie is 27 and should be in his prime for a few more years.
Demario Davis, LB (Jets) - 21mil / 3yr - Another player coming into his prime. Davis is coming off a good year for the Jets, and could play MLB in our defense.
Paul Richardson, WR (Seahawks) - 28mil / 4yr - A speedy receiver who has been trending upward over the course of his career. The Colts could offer a more receiver friendly offense than the Seahawks did.  
Dontari Poe, DL (Falcons) - 18mil / 3yr - Poe signed a "prove it" deal last year, and played well after receiving little interest on the open market. He's a high risk, high reward signing but can be a terrific interior disruptor. 
Dion Lewis, RB (Patriots) - 15mil / 3yr - A super shifty running back who has durability concerns. Lewis has been fantastic for the Patriots over the past could seasons, and can be a good part of our re-vamped backfield. 
Senio Kelemete, OL (Saints) 6mil / 2yr - Here's the veteran backup I mentioned when discussing Mewhort. Kelemete is a solid pass protector who is best at guard but can cover RT in an emergency. 
Virgil Green, TE (Broncos) 5mil / 2yr - Not a sexy signing, but a terrific blocking tight end can make a difference in tight games down the stretch. Has a bit of receiving ability too, although is more of a blocker.

12 - Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia - An elite linebacker prospect who can cover and is a tackling machine. 
22 - Isaiah Wynn, OL, Georgia - Double dipping on the Bulldogs and going with a great prospect who can both pass protect and run block at a very high level. 
36 - Josh Sweat, Edge, Florida St. - The most athletic edge rusher at the combine, this guy has an advanced skill set and reportedly really loves the game and is a great student of it. 
53 - Nathan Shepherd, DL, Fort Hayes St. - A small school gem who tore up the senior bowl and had a good combine. 
67 - Rashad Penny, RB, San Diego St. - Another smaller school prospect, who will give us a bigger back who is also very elusive and fits a west coast offense. 
104 - J’Mon Moore, WR, Missouri - This guy will give us some size at receiver - and minus his 40 yard dash he had an awesome combine. 
178 - Oren Burks, LB, Vanderbilt - An athletic linebacker with good coverage skills (played safety his first 2 years of college). 
221 - Arrion Springs, CB, Oregon - An underrated combine snub who defended 42 passes over the past 3 years for the Ducks including 18 in 2017.

Who is TJ Carrie? My guess is he's not worth 30 mil over 4 years. 

 

I would rather try and get OG Quenton Nelson with that 12th pick, then with the 22nd pick, go after Roquan Smith there. I expect Smith to fall past the top 15 because of his smaller size at LB. He is being compared to Deion Jones from Atlanta, who went in the 2nd. 

 

And with the 12th pick, that's in the ballpark range where Nelson will go. If Ballard needs to move up a few spots to secure him, do it.

He's the Raiders best CB. Personally I'd just as soon re-sign Melvin, but I'm basing this mock partially on some of the ways we've tipped our hand already.

You could be right - but I'm figuring Nelson doesn't make it out of the top 10.

      Not really.   There's a theory that Ballard wants to draft an OL high because he said it's important to protect the QB, and Richardson was hurt last year. And the counter was that Richardson's injury/s probably aren't about the level of OL protection, and drafting an OL high wouldn't address that concern.

      I'm thinking if we can trade to 8 or 9 and draft Odunze , we should do it if the price is reasonable. The value chart shows giving up P 15 and P 46 is the perfect number. Probably won't do it and I would think 2025 2nd for a 2024 4th added to the deal would make it work . That of coarse would depend on Atlanta or Chicago wanting to move to 15 . Obviously , as we all know , it takes 2 to make a trade.

      I can too. And that will tell us everything we need to know about how the view him. It will tell us their feelings on the tight end room, and what direction they pick from there will tell us even more.    but if they take him at 15, we won’t know much about what might have happened, as they will be landing someone they had rated highly and fell to them.

      Glad that’s over…    if I wanted to argue about it, I would have responded far more in depth than pointing out how you were attempting to gaslight me. I did not. Meaning I was ending my part of whatever the argument was. You “putting a finality to it” and then listing bullet points tells me it was the argument you wanted all along, which makes sense why you brought Grigson up in the first place. Bait, hook, gaslight.       Putting a finality on an argument you want to have.   There is a theory that Ballard won't draft a OL high because ARs injuries were not caused by a poor oline.  I felt it important to note that since Luck's major injuries were also not caused by his oline, Ballard could still want to improve it like he did in 2018 simply because AR is The Franchise. And its important to point that out because there has been a running (false) narrative for about 9 years that Luck's oline was the (main) reason for his injuries that kept him out of games.  The (false) narrative is based upon, IMO, a detest of Grigson, and not reality about the facts (or strong rumors) behind the kidney laceration and snowboarding shoulder. Therefore, mentioning Grigson and the (false) narrative was germain to the point about Ballard possibly drafting Oline high this draft to protect AR. Mentioning Grigson shouldn't trigger a CB vs RG discussion, unless people reading it are gaslighted by their own reading lens.
