2018 Explosive Edge Rushers

Recommended Posts

Looking at that list, there's 27 (not including the 2017 or 2018 draft class) and only 7-8 turned out to be very good to elite pass rushers (about 25%-29%).

I think Landry will end up being a really good pass rusher, but I don't see Fitts or Young amounting to much.

I think it's an interesting system and based on your feelings with Chubb's 3 cone, you feel strongly about it. My issue with it is that it looks only at tangible athletic traits and not any of the intangibles like technique, awareness, reading a developing play, etc. that actual tape shows. This list should be a resource to point out athletically gifted edge rushers that you could then watch film on, not the end all be all.

Well, Jake Bequette and J.J.Watt is all I see at 274 lbs or higher, that is a sample space of 2, that is where Chubb would be. This list gives way too much credibility to the 3-cone drill by eliminating other pass rushers who went above 7 seconds.

Most of these pass rushers are lighter 3-4 OLB type pass rushers. Dwight Freeney and Everson Griffen did not do the 3 cone drill, so does that mean they are not explosive edge rushers? Their resume speaks for itself.

It is hard for me to take this list too seriously, personally.

2 is a terrible sample size for anything

I would not put a lot of weight into this metric.  That list speaks for itself.  Leaving some key players off who have done very well for themselves.  Suggs, Houston, bigger guys that might have a slightly slower cone drill or 40, but yet the 10 yards they need to get to the QB seems to be no problem for them.  This is why Chubb will be just fine.

Josh Sweat is explosive!

Ya, but i watched some tape of him after seeing his 10 yd split. He was consistently the last Fsu d-lineman to come out of his stance. It limited his ability to pass rush or get tackles for loss. I was disappointed. Maybe he needs better coaching...?

For me I want to add either Bradley Chubb or Harold Landry to this defense. My question is, would Landry fit this 4-3 scheme, or would he be considered a bit small to play with his hand in the dirt each down? I think he would be best served as a pure pass rush specialist, and not asked to focus so much on the run. Now if Ballard wants a great all around DE ala Joey Bosa, then Chubb is the guy. I just really like Landry's bend and explosion to the QB.

Only 3 Edge Rushers made the 2018 Explosive Edge Rushers list this year.

Harold Landry

Kylie Fitts

Trevon Young

2018 Explosive Edge Rushers

Sam Hubbard might have made this list had he just ran the 40 Yard Dash. His 6.84, three cone was best among all Edge Rushers this year.

These three couldn't carry Chubb's jock, I mean shoulder pads. I wouldn't trade all three for Chubb.
