Lamar Jackson is making a statement at the combine - he's refused to do the athletic testing and he will only do the on-field QB drills and throws. This is after he was asked yesterday to if he would run the WR drills and he said "I'm a QB. I thought I did a good job at QB in college."

It seems like he's sending a message - everybody knows I'm athletic... now watch me throw.

WRs about to run:

Marcel Ateman 4.63

Deon Cain 4.46 - 4.44(second run)

Antonio Callaway 4.41 -> real nice time for Callaway

Dylan Cantrell 4.59

DJ Chark 4.34 ->I think that's the best 40 so far at the combine

Simmie Cobbs Jr - 4.68 -> 4.65 in the secon run

Keke Coutee 4,44

Robert Foster 4,45 ->4.42 in the second run

Michael Gallup 4.52->4.51 second run -> I like Gallup. If he falls to the 3d-4th... it would be awesome pick

Davon Grayson 4.52

Quadree Henderson 4.51

Richie James 4.48

Christian Kirk 4.46 -> good time for Kirk

Chris Lacy 4.51

Jordan Lasley 4.50

Allen Lazard 4.62 -> 4,56!!!! At his size(over 6'4") 225 this is a great time! I didn't expect him to run this well. Also... our new assistant coach Tom Manning was his OC in Iowa state. Worth keeping an eye on.

Tavares Martin Jr. 4.84

Ray-Ray McCloud 4.60 ->4.54

Antonio Callaway looks sooooo smooth catching the ball.

Other who seem to have good hands - Gallup, Kirk, DaeSean Hamilton... Lazard looks so much better here than he did at the Senior Bowl...

Thank you for the reports and your impressions. I like the Hamilton kid a lot from what I saw at one of the Bowls (Senior Bowl?). I would appreciate more of your thoughts on him.

Thank you!

Thank you!

I haven't studied him, but he kept popping again and again when I was watching Penn State. He seems to run good routes and has nice hands. I'm not sure he has breakaway speed. I liked him at the senior bowl too...

New group of WRs running 40s:

DJ Moore 4.43 -> Bold prediction - Moore is going round 1. He might be the best WR in the draft(Colts met with him yesterday, so if he drops to the second IMO that's where you have to take him. Won't last til round 3)

J'Mon Moore 4.60

Byron Pringle 4.47

Trey Quinn 4.56

Calvin Ridley 4.44 - nice time for Ridley too

Korey Robertson 4.59 ->expected better... 4.57 second run

Jaleel Scott 4.58 ->4.57

Tre'Quan Smith 4.53

Equanimeous St. Brown  4.48!!!!!!!!!!! This is at almost 6'5" WOW!

Courtland Sutton 4.55

Auden Tate 4.69

James Washington 4.54

Jester Weah 4.44 ->4.43

Ka'Raun White 4.53

Marquez Valdes-Scantli 4.43 -> 4.37

Jake Wieneke 4.68

Cedrick Wilson 4.56

Javon Wims 4.54

Steven Mitchell Jr 4.57

^looks so smooth running at his size.

On the field I think Callaway is a good as any Wr in the draft.  Teams will need to do their diligence with all of his off the field issues. He jumped off the screen at Florida ( & booker t Washington hs). His stats were depressed due to playing in a horrible offense without a legit qb.

One of my under the radar wrs (prior to today) was DJ Chark. His speed was evident in games and his 4.34 40 at almost 6’3 backed that up.  His stats were severely depressed due to that horrible LSU offense and qb play. In LSU games I watched this year and especially last year Chark always jumped out to me. Guys like Malachi dupre and travon Dural got more pub but Chark just looked like a stud. Of course their offense and qbs are so bad u could only see flashes.

If Callaway or Chark went to a big 12 school like OU, their numbers would have top notch.

Durham Smythe 4.86

Ian Thomas 4.75

Mark Andrews 4.59

Marcus Baugh 4.82

Tyler Conklin 4.81

Will Dissly 4.88

Ryan izzo 4.95

Jaylen Samuels 4.64/4.55 -> not a traditional TE, but a moveable piece and weapon... i like him

Dalton Shultz 4.76

Hayden Hurst 4.68

Josh Rosen's drop backs are BEAUTIFUL!! And his arm is plenty strong and accurate. IMO best QB in the draft.

edit: and he missed 3 throws on a post corner route to end the session... :nono:

For me, it's what's between his ears. He's a "silver spoon" kid, . The kid had a hot tub in his dorm room and wasn't to concerned about academics. I don't question his talent, but I'd have huge questions about his love of the game and if he could mentally handle/lead an NFL locker room. He's not "king-%" anymore and if he comes in with the wrong attitude, these pro's will eat him alive.

I did mention Callaway a while ago with his situation being similar to Tyreek Hill, he is a play maker and will make some team happy.

I agree.

But then, Peyton did come with the pedigree and bloodlines, plus hype. However, Peyton's good work ethic was more the talk coming out of college than what he said off the field or in college, which was a good thing, looking back.

Didnt the Mannings,  Luck, Steve young all come from well to do families?  Not convinced coming from money has anything to do with desire.

People underestimate how much work being this good at football comes with. I've never seen anything to make me doubt his will and determination to work on his game.

None of those guys had character concerns, from NFL scouts, coming out of college either.

What are the character concerns?  I read where he is kinda cocky....telling the truth about the NCAA....I don't know what else there is.

The character concerns are these.....

That no one knows how important football is to him?   No one knows how hard he'll work and for how long?    No one knows how much of a leader in the locker room he is..   I wouldn't read too much into comments by his teammates...   they're his teammates and they gave his back.

Remember...   in most cities the QB is the mist high profile indidual.   More than the Mayor or any other athlete.    Is Josh Rosen ready for all that responsibility?   It's not clear, and the fact that it's not clear is not a good sign.

Little known fact:    The school Rosen wanted to go to out of high school was...... Stanford.   Shaw didn't like his personality, his inability to work with their coaches and didn't offer him.   Rosen was the number one QB and we didn't offer.

Rosen went to the Elite-11 QB camp as the number one guy and out of camp he was ranked 11th because he didn't work well with the coaches.

So that's what he'll be asked about in every interview...  and how he handles those questions will go a long way to determine where he goes...

There are other concerns about his health...   but I was only addressing the ones you asked about.

The first couple paragraphs don't bother me....you could ask that about any player.

but last couple situations would be concerning.

I think the last QB with those kind of questions surrounding him was..........  Johnny Manziel.

Not a fair comparison....   just sayin...

At the Elite 11 camp, he * Dilfer off by complaining about the changes that were made to the playbook. Dilfer said he was cool with being challenged, but Rosen made it a point to act like he knew more than him, and it rubbed Dilfer wrong. Entitlement has been the biggest question mark against him. Don't get me wrong, the kid looks the part, but it's hard to disregard what scouts and other credible people have said about his character.

A fair amount of these issues are basically 3-4 years old....

I'm not aware of any serious incidents at UCLA...

The Hot Tub thing blew over quickly.     UCLA said take it down and he did....

His comments about paying college players was a bit of a storm for a week or two,  but since most people feel that way,    there wasn't much blow back for that.      That said,   those aren't the kind of comments that NFL teams want their QB making.    They want the QB focused like a laser on the game and ONLY the game.

To be clear,  Rosen is not a bad kid.    Not that I'm aware of at all.    I'm not aware that he is a party boy or anything like that.     But he doesn't help himself with talk of being a successful business man and an executive in the entertainment industry when he's done with football.    NFL types only want to hear about your plans for success in the NFL --- period.

Keep the other stuff to yourself.     I guarantee you Andrew Luck has a plan for after his career.    Can anyone here tell me what it is?    I can't.    And that's the point.    Keep the other stuff off the radar and stay focused on football and only football.

I like Samuels also. Great versatility!  He kinda reminded me a little bit of dion lewis, but I've read articles comparing him to Burton (Eagles). If JSam is still on the board at the top of the 3rd I hope the Colts draft him.

Absolutely.. I don't want to have what I said be mistaken in that he's a bad kid, but just that the concerns are there. His character seems to be checking out fine so far at the Combine.

Based on reports and combine results Josh Allen's performance could have elevated his draft stock to the top.  Which is good because if Cleveland prefers him then Dorsey might have to bite the bullet and take him first.    Great to hear Rosen looked the part as well.

Any word on Darnold and/ or Mayfield?

Mayfield looked very good...   and Darnold didn't throw....   he's doing other testing including medical and individual interviews at night...

Darnold will throw at his Pro Day and private team workouts ...

Allen has a cannon for an arm, and he was dead-on accurate on his throws. He was spinning rockets on the short routes and howitzer shots on the deep ones. There doesn't seem to be a throw that he can't make. I think he may have, at least for the moment, moved himself to the top of the QB class along with Mayfield who showed some good stuff as well. What impresses me about these two is that they came out to compete, even though they could have opted out of throwing until their pro days. I don't know where that leaves Darnold who won't throw until his pro day, along with some of the other highly-touted candidates who had some accuracy problems.
