I put Barkley at the bottom because of the RB class and other needs

More or less agree. I think we can get a good enough back in later rounds who can start and change the game. Barkley may be HOF, but tbh a back scares me at the top of a draft for health reasons most of all. Pure talent, I go

Barkely
Nelson
Chubb

Chubb Nelson and Barkley are all as close to "cant miss" as you can get. Still rank them

1) Chubb
2) Nelson
3) Barkley

Id feel great taking any of them

Ranking in terms of talent or in terms of value.

In terms of talent you have reversed Chubb and Barkley.

In terms of value you are spot on.  In the NFL a "good" pass rusher is more valuable then a great RB.  That's just the reality.  Look at who get's paid.

If he did he would be an extreme outlier.  And I really really don't see him getting that much money.  He might want that much.  I really doubt he gets that much.

I'm looking for the info but I seriously doubt Nelson's 35 beats all other OL by 8...

If it's true, that the next highest O-lineman's total is just 27, that would be a HUGE black eye on this OL class.   I know he had 8 more than McGlinchey, but the list says 8 more than any other lineman.

I'm hoping this is not true.   Terrible if true...

That's what I thought I heard them say. I could have heard it wrong.

I'd question that too.  I don't have the numbers in front of me but 35 reps is a pretty good number for an OL it's not an unheard of number.

And Walterfootball has Hernandez pushing out 37 reps.

I'm not blaming you....     but it's not correct.

Here's the page from NFL.com from last year's combine,.

There are 4 OL who had 34 or 35 reps on the bench press....

Way too much is made out of combine numbers.  Bench press, 40 time, none of these things really correlate to being a good football player.

Tell that to the NFL people who run this event.     They find this helpful.

They try not to do things that aaren't important to football.

I think it shows an athletic ceiling for a player.

There's obviously a lot more to it but most of that stuff can be taught if a player is coachable and smart.  The thing that limits their ceiling is athletic ability.

I have a guy at work who's saying bench is overrated too but he's saying 3 cone and wonderlic might be important.

Mike Mayock has said himself the Combine is more for confirming what you've seen on film.  For example, if a guy on film looks like a 4.4 runner, but comes to the Combine and runs a 4.7, you might need to go back and re-watch the film.  He's also said he thinks the bench press is more for seeing a guy's commitment to the weight room (in a good way, eg. does this guy work hard?) rather than how much strength he plays with.

Bench press is pretty valuable when evaluating interior OL.

I wouldn't say that.  The top bench press performers from years past generally aren't standout NFL players

I didn't say it was the end all be all, but you can't have weak OL. I'm sure if you look at the greats, especially interior guys, they all tested above average in their bench test.

Brandon Scherff did 23 reps.  Not above average at all for OL.

So you're saying he's an outlier? He played OT in college and got moved to guard when he was drafted. I'm sure his strength has went up due to having to play inside as opposed to playing outside.

OK.....

But I think that makes my point and not yours.     If it's helpful in some way or another,  then they do it...

Is there any way to draft both Chubb and Nelson to the Colts? I’d love them both and Ballard has said he wants to build up the trenches first and foremost!! If somehow we could land both of these guys talk about instant impact on both offense and defense!

    • I have no idea how it will all shake out, but I have my popcorn ready.
    • There are no owners in the NFL that are perfect people. Some owner's demons are more public, some not so much, but they all have them. There's much more to the free agency issue and the Colts than most are aware of. There are a lot of intangibles most will never consider. That said, there is more to almost every aspect of any organization that most will ever be aware of. Those are often the things that matter most.
    • You can't measure what is "right" in a vacuum, or just by "feel". It takes so much more than that. The Colts front office performance is judged in relationship with all the other teams in the NFL. Just trying to objectively align the different perspectives of the scouting and coaching staff requires more sophisticated evaluation methods than what we saw in the video.   It doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling, but I understand this is the way a lot of organizations work.
    • https://www.stampedeblue.com/2024/4/1/24118330/i-pity-the-fool-mock-draft     Trade Colts 2nd round (440)   For   Packers pick 58 and 91 (456)   Packers select Zach Frazier C West Virginia 6'2 314lbs Logic: Packers replace Jon Meyers who gave up 5 sacks and had a pff grade of 55.8   Colts trade pick 58 and Kwity Paye   For   Saints Marshon Lattimore CB 27 years old and a conditional 2025 4th (depending on snaps could be 3rd) From Over the cap The team trading for Lattimore would take on his contract as is. They would have the decision to either pick up the option to defer the cap charges or to simply take all of the hit in 2024. Here is the cost on the cap if the team picks up the option in the contract:   Year Salary Cap Charge Dead Money 2024 $15,000,000 $12,000,000 2025 $18,000,000 $0 2026 $18,500,000 $0 2027 (void) $0 $0 Lattimore has no guaranteed money in his contract after 2024 so there is nothing that would lock a team into him beyond this year. Colts Logic: We wanted some experience in the secondary. We wanted a shutdown corner. So we give the Saints a offer they can not refuse. In the first 2 rounds we address most of our defensive woes. Saints Logic: Saints are switching to a 4-3 defense this year and just let Michael Thomas walk. They have always been cap wizards but this may be the year to start a new with the changes listed above. Lattimore has only played 17 games these past two seasons and even though he's a top 12 CB when healthy he has been dinged up. Kwity Paye can start at DE until Chase Young is healthy.
    • Ballard should have never cut him. I want Ogletree on the team as well considering charges were dropped (I believe), but his whole fiasco with his fiance where battery might have been involved was way more of a sensitive topic and understandable of being cut for than Rodgers friend betting 1k on his account on a Colts run stat over/under. That's the worse thing Rodgers was found guilty of, and now we have Colts fans trying to convince themselves we need a RD1 CB pick after 3 were chosen in last year's draft...    He did a podcast detailing what he bet on with Franklin and Speed in case others haven't seen it. Much ado about nothing imho and it's obvious the locker room still like him/didn't think he was negatively trying to affect the outcome of games, and they would know best on that over anyone.
