QB Carousel.....Where it stops no one knows...Do you?

Recommended Posts

So we are about to hit free agency in less than a month. I've listed a number of the most notable free agents (and likely free agents) that will be on the market and qb needy teams. Since free agency hits before the draft teams will have to make moves because they don't know how the draft will turn out. Simple exercise....match up the free agent qb to his new team.

1. Drew Brees                       New Orleans Saints

2. Kirk Cousins                     Denver Broncos

3. Teddy Bridgewater           Minnesota Vikings

4. Case Keenum                  Arizona Cardinals

5. Sam Bradford                   Miami Dolphins

6. AJ McCarron*                  Buffalo Bills

7. Tyrod Taylor**                  Jacksonville Jaguars

8. Josh McCown                  New York Jets

Even though I don't think Denver has the money to bring in Kirk, I think they get creative...probably try to trade D Thomas or make some cuts here and there and convince Kirk to sign there. I think Elway doesn't want to roll the dice and develop another qb. Cleveland will push up the price though...financially it makes the most sense and it would open up their whole draft if they were to get him. As you can see I don't have Cleveland getting one of these so they will take a qb 1st in the draft. Also I think the Jets look to draft a qb...they aren't built to win now and need to continue their rebuild they started last off-season. I think Minnesota moves on from Keenum....he never really got full confidence there...and with a new OC...I think they turn things back over to Teddy. Don't be surprised if they draft a qb late in the first. They still need another cb but I can't imagine they feel confident in Teddy's health until they see him play a whole season. Back to Cousins that is the crucial piece I think that will slow up the qb market. Because most of the teams on the list and not (Cleveland) will be after his services and until he signs somewhere I doubt they lock down their signal caller. I know there is rumblings that Washington could tag Cousins and then try to do a sign and trade with a team...but I can't imagine something as complex as that would be will happen. They haven't been able to work with Cousins and his agent this far...to drag him through that would be like pulling teeth. Just move on already. So there is my guess.....what's yours?

*AJ is a restricted free agent...hard to tell but Cincy will likely tender him with a first rd...if that's the case he may very well stay....but if not I think a team like Buffalo or others get involved to get him. Buffalo with two late first rd picks may still think its better to land McCarron then dabble with a late first rd pick. He may allow them to stay a playoff caliber team then take a step back with a rookie. ** Taylor is currently under contract...but with how things went for him in Buffalo...they've never loved him...he would only count as 8 million to the cap if they just cut bait. Time to move on. No way Brees doesn't end up in New Orleans...its his and their best bet to win another SB.

    • I'm not in Indiana, but I am so ready for the draft. I should have taken the day off.   I would be surprised to see that trade. The pats have said they have not received serious offers to trade back. But that would be great to see Marvin Harrison's son as a Colt.
    • Surprisingly in “twitter land” it’s picking up steam lol. It’s the Wild West in there right now. On the .0000001% chance it happens I feel the fanbase would still be split. Some furious over compensation. Some over the moon to get Marvin’s son in Indy.    As long as we don’t draft a OL in the first round I’ll be a happy camper. Hoping for Bowers, BTJ, Arnold in that order for who would (realistically) want.
    • There’s been a lot of comments made by Ballard lately that they are always planning a few years out, while the coach is pushing for players that can help now. So it’s a balance. He’s made comments that the goal is to protect and provide weapons for AR. The talent at the top of the draft seems like there could be a couple really good offensive lineman falling down to us, with a run on receivers and skill players. I don’t necessarily see that, I think there could be a run on qbs, tackles, and pass rushers with the obvious 3 receivers before we pick. That could potentially push all corners, as well as Bowers down to 15. But say, both corners and Bowers go top 15, who does that push out? Most likely a talented tackle. They can either trade back or take the highest rated player on the board, which would provide swing tackle depth, and a plan for if Smith is injured/isnt re-signed following 2025. Some are speculating it might be best to move Smith to guard in that scenario.
    • I don't believe this would ever happen as the price would be much too steep. The only way this is even a remote possibility is if the Pats do not like Maye or McCarthy . Then this would also need the QB needy teams to feel the same as NE . The value of Maye , if he's a franchise QB is multiple firsts. IMO , you can't give up that for a WR
