Importance of a backup QB

The last 3 SBs have had backup QBs play pivotal roles for the SB champs.

2015 - Osweiler for Peyton (injury)

2016 - Garropolo and Brissett for Brady (suspension)

2017 - Nick Foles for Carson Wentz (injury)

It is just as important to develop the backup QB position in the current NFL as it is to have a starting QB. So, whoever we hire needs to understand that and develop Brissett just as much as help get Luck to the next level.

Thoughts???

I once heard someone say that the QB2 spot is the most important for this reason: you don’t see it, but the backup qb is always helping analyze on field situations. Most wear a headset from time to time, a clipboard, they’re busy. And if your starter gets injured, it can swing an entire game if the backup isn’t ready. They need to be able to keep the pace of the offense in order not to fall behind at the end of the game. Brissett is young, and also a solid backup QB, just needs a better coordinator, who isn’t so conservative and better decision making.
