1959 Colts, can't figure out if you are a Colt fan or a Titan fan, whether you are a Luck fan or a Mariota fan. Definitely know you are a 'glass half empty vs a glass half full' guy.

Oh. I'm a die hard Colts fan. But with the teams history of late, I find it a bit hard to see the "glass half full"

Just not buying that McDaniels coming to Colts is anywhere near a done deal.

Which seemed to be the popular opinion this morning.

The good news here is that he is already putting his staff together.  I expect we will probably here a few more names going forward.   Hard not to get excited.

Maybe? But just because McDaniels is assembling his staff doesn't mean it's the Colts.

The staff would probably follow him wherever he ends up.

Then where else is he going?

Don't think anyone is saying it's a done deal and can't be till Pats season ends. However you seem to indicate that the Titans may be his destination over the Colts and he hasn't even interviewed with them.Or has he ever talked about coaching Mariota though it has been said he compared Luck vs Brady as to potential. Again, just 'glass half full vs half empty'.

Interesting part:

"Two of the Giants‘ top choices for their head coaching vacancy, Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia, are reportedly set to accept jobs elsewhere. Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, however, says that Big Blue fans should not count out McDaniels just yet. One team source says the Giants have not been informed that McDaniels is out of the mix, and while it has been reported that McDaniels wants more control over personnel than New York is willing to allow, the team feels it can resolve that issue."

Interesting. Can't say how reputable Vacchiano is because I don't know who he is. I'd trust Rap for now.

Yup, that's why I'm not celebrating quite yet. Giants will get desperate if Patricia goes to Detroit, which seems likely.

What can the Giants offer that the Colts can't match?

Like the quote says, they could try to accomodate his roster control wishes, if he actually does want that. It could create a riff with Gettleman which is why I think the Giants would be silly to do that, but they could.

I think this guy is more just speculating though, reading through his twitter.

I find it interesting that roster control suddenly comes into play. Ballard would never give up roster control, and McDaniels reportedly wants, yet McDaniels is the frontrunner. This is also the first I've heard about the roster control part.

Hopefully we can sign him before or at the same time Patricia gets signed so the giants won’t have a chance at a desperation move

Yeah, but we may have to wait until february to do that.

Here in NY Metro area multiple local TV sports outlets is acting as if McDaniels is already the Colts new coach.....For whatever that is worth .

That's interesting. It's been mentioned before, but yesterday, during one of the playoff games, Romo acted like McDaniels was a done deal to the Colts.

Not so sweet.  Won't happen, don't want him.

Sounds like a personal problem. It's going to happen. Might as well accept it

You know, going through this guy's twitter (Vacchevio), I think he's more just speculating about the Giants still going after McDaniels. He seems upfront about not knowing much.

Yeah, he might be speculating. If he's not an insider, I doubt he has info on the Giants plans or about what McDaniels wants.

Sounds like he is pretty well connected if some Giant insider are really talking about their plans.

another interesting part in that article as well:

"Most people around the league, though, have assumed he'd prefer the Indianapolis job where he could have a little more control and he could work with a presumably healthy Andrew Luck. So if it's true that's where he's headed, the Giants could turn to Shurmur - except that according to a league source he's the front-runner for the Arizona Cardinals job, and he's appeared to prefer that over the Giants all along."

I doubt it's entire roster control. Ballard will still mainly make the decisions, with McDaniels collaborating, if the report is true.

I'd be kind of surprised if McDaniels was too worried about control.

And if he is I imagine it's that he at least wants a good input. Ballard's the perfect GM to work with in that scenario, I think. He always talks about working with the coach closely. Getting not just their input but trying to get players that fit the coaches vision. Sems like a very coach friendly GM.

    • It’s a looong season that got even longer this year.  Seeing as how I think they will start out with a heavy run game to begin the season I think that Fisher can (hopefully) afford to be out a couple of weeks to begin the season.   This will allow Carson to adjust to the receiving corps and get some confidence using the short routes while keeping the pass blocking to a minimum.   Make sure Fisher gets some extra time which will be beneficial at the end of the year.
    • I'd love to watch the game from that pool.....over 50% in attendance always Colts fans anyway there, might as well take over their pool too....lol
    • I do think its weird how this Julio Jones chatter keeps staying attached to us
    • Between Canada and the USA?   I usually drive to Montréal twice a year and was planning on Quebec last summer ....   hopefully this summer.
    • If Doyle doesn’t retire already had him being cut saving the Colts $5.45 million against the cap next season.  A replacement in FA would be TE Dallas Goedert (Eagles).  In Round 1 am projecting TE Jalen Wydermyer from Texas A&M to be a target.   Both Rhodes and Carrie I project to be unsigned.  RCB Rasul Douglas (Raiders) would be a backup RCB might be a target.  If we had the cap space RCB Darious Williams (Rams) went UDFA to NFL star 11m valuation (15m easily).  Still hold out on adding FS Marcus Williams (Saints) who is playing on a 10.6m tag.  Should get around 4yr/60m 35m guaranteed.   In the end I doubt the Colts sign any of these options and focus on the draft.   I like the Sam Tevi addition and think the Colts got a steal of a deal for him.  Am hoping Fisher is healthy and can start by week 5 giving the Colts an option to trade Tevi to a team that just drafted a rookie LT that is struggling or got injured and need trade capital.  See Will Holden as our 3rd LT and Davenport getting released during cut downs.  One idea is to sign Fisher to his one year contract this year and use additional capital to go after someone younger like RT Brian O’Neill (Vikings).  Was very high on O’Neill coming out of college as a LT.  O’Neill and Smith are two of the best players currently playing RT that moved from original college positions and have flourished.  O’Neill would be a long-shot addition but would create options to mix-n-match scenarios here.  Either way by not drafting a rookie OL that can start we are going to be financially hurting I believe next off-season unless we cut players like Doyle and Stewart with a Post-June 1 designation.  I don’t see the Colts being aggressive next off-season in Free Agency but below is an early look to next off-season have been working on.   FA Adds RT Brian O’Neill (move to LT) 4yr/64m 16m APY with 30m guaranteed.  Option 2: resign Fisher with 2 year extension 12m/15m   Cut IDL Grover Stewart – save 8.125m or 9.378m June 1 Cut TE Jack Doyle – save 5.45m   Resign/Extend LB Darius Leonard -not a true MLB. My original offer 5 years $82.5 million 40m guaranteed  RT Braden Smith 4/58m 30m guaranteed LG Nelson 5 years $85 million (17m) = 15m, 16m, 17m, 18m, 19m – top LG makes 14.781m / yr TE Mo Allie-Cox 3yr/20.8 or 6.93 APY (5.5-6.8-8.5)  WR Zach Pascal 3/24 8m APY (5.4-8.6-10)  LDE Tyquan Lewis 3/11.4m 3.8m APY (2.2m, 3.8m, 5.4m)  RB Nyheim Hines 3yr/13.645m (4.55m APY) (base 3.9m, 4.5m 5.65m with 1.35m roster bonus each year) Similar to A.
