With a new staff coming in(assuming the new HC fires the old assistants) what happens to Mathis? I know he was a volunteer pash rush consultant but he was eventually hired as an actual coach. Wonder if he'll get the boot as well.

I believe Ballard said in the press conference today that they would make decisions on assistants after the new head coach is hired. So it's possible that some coaches would be retained. I'd consider Mathis among the most likely to be brought back, along with Schottenheimer as QB coach and McMahon as special teams coordinator.

I am sure Ballard and his hire will be on the same page when it comes to this kind of stuff.

If it's important enough to Irsay, I'm sure he'll arrange for Mathis to be retained. Ballard seemed to be all about it also.

The new HC will have to make that call.  

 

I think if Mathis gets let go here then he will get a shot elsewhere if coaching is really something he wants to get into. 

 

Even if it's not in the NFL he'd likely get a shot at the college level someplace as a DL coach.
