That's why a coach needs to understand the flow of the game. It's really not that hard. If you are running the ball well then you continue to run the ball and eat clock. if you're stuffed all game then you add some RB and WR bubble screens in. Any coach paying attention to the game knows what needs to be done to keep the clock moving. Too often they get stubborn and start making boneheaded calls.

Agree, but thats really on the Quality Control coach, not just the OC.  The OC follows the game plan unless the QC coach gives him the info that tells him otherwise.  Really.  I've read Pat Kirwan's book "Take you eye off the Ball, version 2.0.  Early in his career, PK was a QC coach and did just that.
