Let Me See If I Get This Straight

Recommended Posts

So, "The best back and neck guy in the country" said Peyton can resume his career from a health standpoint. There is no risk to his health greater than that of any other NFL Quarterback.

Yet, we get this "report" that Peyton has developed spurs in his neck and might require an alleged 5th surgery sometime soon, meaning, I guess, that he is not really healthy enough, because in order to be, he needs this surgery. I mean the thought of him "on the clock" to re enter the surgeon's room, cannot by any menas mean he is ready, right?

Not only that, but for some spooky reason, that surgery hasn't taken place yet, they are, somehow, and against all logic, waiting for this ailment to worsen, aggravate, deteriorate, (whatever term suits your mind) for the aforementioned surgery to take place.

Either Peyton is a real %$#%$ and is lying to everybody, making us believe that he is healthy, trying to squeeze some money like the greedy guy he is [end sarcasm], becoming almost crazy, losing his mind and risking his own life just for the sake of "gettinig away with it" or this report is just very inaccurate for lack of a better word.

Now, call me crazy, but that doesn't make any darn sense at all.

Thoughts?

Truth is probably somewhere in the middle. I don't think either side is lying, but they are seeing it from different points of view. Peyton hears he is able to play and he doesn't care how many surgeries there were as long as he feels healthy now and is safe - he wants to take the risk so he's hearing the positive. The Colts have a lot to lose and are worried about the history and making the wrong decision. They are paying more attention to the negative because they don't want the risk.

We don't know if the sources for this article are accurate.

Peyton has neither confirmed nor denied having had more than 3 neck surgeries in the past 20 months.

This could be more speculation.

What we do know is what Mr. Irsay has said in his last communication regarding PM.

We now know what Mr. Irsay means when he uses the word "healthy", and when he uses the term "if he wants to be a Colt".

We have good reason to believe that the Colts will not be paying the $28MM option bonus due March 8.

i think the "talking heads" are just speculating that in the future, he "could" need something done because he "could" develop bone spurs or something....just like he "could" need a fusion at a different level, because it "could" cause other levels to over compensate for the fused one...

but i dont think "could" is a very high percentage, just something more for the media to spout off about.

I have said it since december though, i believe either peytons agent or Archie has paid the Dr off to clear him inorder to try to pick up that 28 million dollar option.

you really think hes going to admit to it? especially if he hasnt told Mr. Irsay, that would kill their trust in their friendship and will guarentee a release. Just sayiing lol. i mean if he hasnt said anything then it would be lying to us fans and the Colts. he wouldnt want to be pointed out as an liar especially at this time lol

1) I don't know if the report is accurate.

2) I don't know if Irsay already knows or not.

3) However, if the report is true, and PM hasn't said anything about it to the Colts, I think he would be in violation of his contract.

I'm not so sure the best, or one of the best doctors in the U.S. would risk his career, or his reputation by doing something so unethical just as much as I doublt the Mannings being greedy conspirators...

well we all have not been so sure of alot of things the last couple of weeks, so nothing would surprise me.

It is all over the news, that Manning had a 4th procedure in 2011, not 2012. But, folks, a procedure is not necessarily surgery. Any kind of medical attention is called a procedure. A 4th procedure on his neck could mean something as simple as a cortisone shot. The media blows everything out of proportion and starts all these rumors to sell newspapers and t.v. advertising.

Well, asuming that reports are accurate, Irsay is in a "no win" situation. It's still not clear, if PM would be medically cleared for next season, and two scenarios are ahead: 1.) PM will retire due to health matter. 2.) He decides to wait another season and struggles tor full recovery. Clearly, none of them is favorable for any NFL owner...

So I think, it is quite understandable why don't Irsay want to unfold his cards yet, turn and river are still ahed.

There is some chance, that PM will be cleared for next season, but time is tickin' .

I don't understand why people read this "Manning is cleared to play again" release and just automatically thought that he's ready to go. The release only applies to the cervical fusion, yes it has progressed to the point where they are no longer concerned about it being an injury risk for him. Still has nothing to do with the nerve regeneration. Until we know exactly what this "4th neck procedure" was it's a moot point. The fact that there is a chance he might need a future surgery for bone spurs means little IMO. There's a chance that anybody here could get hit by a bus today, doesn't make it a certainty. As with most things in the Manning-gate of '11-12 we'll all know more in due time.

Yeah, because the most prominent neck surgeon in the country who is I'm sure already a millionaire, needs to put his entire career in jeopardy for a payoff.

The bottom line is Irsay does not plan to pay the 28M. He will tell Peyton that he will resign him if he will accept a new, more performance based contract since no one knows what his performance will be like. This story was released to make Peyton fans believe that he has been less than honest with everyone concerning his health. The truth is whatever this "fourth proceduere" was, it has nothing to do with his current status. Peyton will play football in 2012, and I fear it will not be in Indy.

thhere is always 3 sides of the story... 1 story by each party and the truth.

i think both parties have valid reasons, but they are playing a darn dangerous game.

'

the 4th surgery is irrelevant....because it came BEFORE that last one..in September..

....

Many NFL players potentially might have future surgeries.

He's been cleared to play if and when he can....

This is a non-story..

How many surgeries did Ronnie Lott have while still playing at a high level? Remember that he was a human missile. I love how people suddenly are able to affix a number of anything......say....surgeries?....and make not only a guess, but state a fact, and include the word we. Like "we all know". The intelligence and prescient thought on this board is dangerously close to omnipresent oneness.

(This advertiser does not endorse this opinion, and states quite clearly that this opinion is in response to the entire board, not just this thread)

Thank you.

    • I voted Braden Smith, as whenever anyone mentioned our line previously, it was always Castonzo, Nelson and Kelly that were mentioned specifically by name, hardly ever was Braden thrown in there too. He has been stalwart at RT and definitely deserves far more credit.    However, after I pressed Braden and voted i had a thought.... and funnily enough I think the answer is TY Hilton atm.   Pretty much ever since he was drafted the Colts offence just hasn’t been the same when he isn’t on the field. That holds true still... even when he isn’t posting big numbers himself, the entire offence runs better when he is there. People are so down on TY that they were willing to let him walk, but it would’ve been a massive mistake. So glad he stayed.
    • In the wake of the draft, I've naturally seen and heard a number of people discuss the outlook for the Colts defensive line. Paye and Dayo are spoken about as high upside prospects, Buckner is seen as a perennial All-Pro, and Grover Stewart is... never mentioned. Stewart has come on leaps and bounds since he was drafted, and has been as consistent and reliable as anyone on the D-Line the last two seasons. I don't feel like he's currently getting the recognition that he deserves, and would argue that he's the most underrated player on the Colts right now.   If you disagree, who would be your choice?   I have a couple of other contenders but feel free to add your own in the comments:   Rock Ya-Sin - Very solid when playing zone but gets burned or penalised once a game and that's all people remember.   Braden Smith - Being the third best lineman on the team means being top 5 at his position often goes unnoticed.   Nyheim Hines - Recognised for his ability to make plays out of the backfield but has also begun to show improvement running between the tackles.   Jack Doyle - Mr. Reliable. He'd still be top of my target list in a 4th and 5 situation. Never makes the highlight reel but is one of the most fundamentally sound football players on the team.
