The Super Bowl Worked Out Great For Indy

I am not sure if this post belongs on the Colts board or NFL board, maybe on neither. But I just have to say it.

I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and had to watch the Super Bowl, like most people, on T.V. But I have heard nothing but good things about the game and the week long event in Indy. Even the New Orleans radio crew that went up to tout next year's game in their city, famous for its hospitality, had to admit that Indy did a superb job hosting this year's big game.

What I have heard a lot of, from national and local media, is that it was so great for fans and media that everything took place within about an eight block area, so people could walk from place to place. That made it like a huge block party the whole week. The Indy natives were so nice and friendly, and the weather cooperated in every way. What a contrast to last year's fiasco in Dallas! Everything I heard was positive; nothing negative. The group that planned and put on the event did an outstanding job.

The game itself was great, maybe one of the best Super Bowls, in my humble opinion. And I think most Indiana folk are smiling because, if it could not be the Colts, Peyton's brother winning and Brady and Belichick losing could not have been a better result!

I remember my own experience in Indy in 2005 and will cherish the memory the rest of my life. It is a great city with great people! I think Indy will be on the short list for future big sporting events, including more Super Bowls.

Way to go!

Classy post. Thank you very much. The most watched show in American TV history at 111.3 million. Amazing that Madonna's halftime show was watched by 114 million. Madonna beat the Super Bowl game:)

Another thing I forgot to mention. Many people complain when the Super Bowl is held up north because of the possibility of bad weather. Well, last year it was in Dallas -- very southern -- and they had a blizzard. Remember Miami in 2007 when the Colts had to play the Bears in a monsoon? Plus, if the game had been played in New Orleans this year, I can vouch that it rained all week long, which would have dampened the party on the streets.

Yeah.....we got about as lucky as we can get weather wise but one thing is for sure Indy knows how to handle big events. We've had lots of practice and want to keep them when they get here.

meh...I say 3 million newbs tuned in to watch the freak kiss a woman while riding a naked man across the stage or whatever.

I know...I know...we had this conversation already. I'll stop being a hater. Madonna's a phony!

Anyway, there were already 111 million folks watching, and many of them could not have cared less about the halftime show. Everyone I hang with generally despises the halftime show and view it as nothing more than a joke.

Yep. Why anyone would want to watch an ex-legend lip-synch her way through some average songs with tacky supporting acts defeats me.

We did get lucky with the weather. At that time last year we had a nice ice storm hitting so we definately lucked out in the weather department.

A lot of push against Indy holding it just comes out of sheer ignorance and the stereotype of small mid western town. Though at times our state government does things that does nothing but reinforce that hillbilly stereotype. That is a discussion for a whole different message board.

I knew as long as the weather was good enough that Indy would show why we do sporting events so good. I do love the fact that we got to follow Dallas and completely embrass them. :)

Now hopefully any of you that were down there Friday are uptodate on their vacinations because the CDC reported that someone with measels was downtown that night.

So about the measels you can get the measels going to the Walmarts, Grocery Stores or anywhere in public. Sorry if anyone of the 100,000 people caught them but I wouldn't have been anymore worried than a trip to the Walmart or elsewhere. JMO of course. :hmm:

Thanks mouthofsouth! It was a great time, and we were truly blessed with unseasonably warm weather. Indy has always been a great city for hosting major sports events. The NCAA loves to have the Final Four here. I truly hope and believe that we will be given another SB. Best of luck to you guys when you host, hope everything turns out as great for you as it did for us!

I went Wednesday and have had the flu since Monday. I bet many people got sick being in such a tight populated area with people from all over the country.

You sure have, for about a hundred years with the Indy 500. But I believe the Super Bowl is the test of all tests.

To be honest I mute the T.V. during Super Bowl halftime and go wash the dishes. It just seems to me that loud ridiculous display does not belong at a football game, especially one as important as the Super Bowl. It breaks the mood for the fans. It is tiring for the players. Plus, I do not like the music (if you can call it that) PERIOD! I much prefer the old time halftime shows of marching bands. Doesn't Indiana have a few great marching bands at their colleges they could showcase? I know the NFL makes the decision, though, not the local host.

New Orleans, of course, has hosted the Super Bowl a bunch of times. It is a popular place because of the food, the party atmosphere, etc. However, even New Orleans is more spread out than Indy. The Super Dome is blocks away from the French Quarter, and unless you are very young, you need transportation, maybe just to get from your hotel to the Dome. With it being so spread out, they need more security, etc. so people can stroll around at ease. Usually the weather is great. We have not really had a winter down here this year.

Yep, thats my smoke break.

I know I know, those things will kill me. My philosophy; Why worry about something that can kill me in 20 years when there are so many things that can kill me today.

I wonder if Indy will ever host Wrestlemania? Ya ya its fake but I like the cheesiness.

I would bet we'd have a Wrestle Mania before we have another Super Bowl...

Vince McMahon is very much into the 'experience'

..and our game might not have been the best ever..(in SB history)..but some say our 'experience' was

I would put that SB in the top ten all time with no trouble. I think my all time fav was the 'Wide Right' NYG vs Buff (1990?)

Personally, if we do get another SB and do the "zip line" again, I would do a "celebrity zip line" where you can watch celebrities going across the zip line and fans get to take pictures with those celebrities as a fund raising event for "Make A Wish" or some other charity.

They can cordon off streets close to the zip line for a 3 hour event for that and could ask fans to pay $100 with an attendee limit if they are interested to help raise funds for a good cause. I think it would fill up in no time, IMO.

Yep thats exactly right. The x-factor on Indy hosting another SB will not be 'are we capable of it." We are more than capable, we have the experience hosting major sporting events, and the way the city is set up makes it very convenient. The X-factor in hosting another SB will always be the weather. Superbowl week was dry and just warm enough. However, even if it was wet and frigid cold, I still think Indy had a good contingency plan in place.

I have hear that Indy's stadium capacity...72,000 is a drawback when compared to Dallas...100,000 and NOLA...

...but our indoor setup (you can walk from your hotel to the stadium without going outside gives Indy

a huge edge on some cities where the hotels are nowhere near the stadium./..

The 'Super Bowl Village' concept is going to become a constant going forward...

    • I just cant understand taking D line over a CB this year.  WR or Bowers would make sense to me   If the team doesnt value corners this way then maybe they should start.  I dont like to pigeon hole what we draft this hard but our secondary is a bunch of nobodies and our Dline is ok, better than ok actually.  We dont even have many snaps for a rookie unless they are a really good edge right out of the gate. A rookie DT from this class isnt beating Buckner or Stewart.
    • We see many coverage failures by all teams caused by miscommunication.  Certainly there are exceptional individuals that play CB but experience and intelligence are vital.  Flowers had size and 4.3's speed, and Jones was decent. Juju has potential but because of his size and speed he will always be successfully targeted.   We are desperate for a 4.3's stud that can cover anytime, anywhere. That was Rodgers BTW.
    • Isaiah Land he says.     Every year it happens. The Dallas Cowboys make some tough roster cuts and we all wait nervously to see if our favorite prospects make it cleanly through waivers. Most do, but every once in a while, a team will scoop up that one guy we were hoping made it to the practice squad. This year, that player is edge rusher Isaiah Land. An undrafted free agent from Florida A&M, Land dealt with injuries his final year in college, but had a remarkable season in 2021 when he finished with 19 sacks, 25.5 tackles for a loss, and three fumble recoveries. While there is a lot to be uncovered with him, he still flashed enough to draw interest from the Cowboys. Throughout the summer, the young edge rusher had impressed and it looked like the team had found another diamond in the rough. Land was fantastic during the preseason. In three games, he finished with 10 total pressures, which was the second-most of any player on any NFL team this preseason. He also finished with seven hurries on 45 pass-rushing snaps. He only recorded one official sack but finished with a pass rush win rate of 20%. Not only that, he had opposing tackles so worried about his get-off that they were regularly jumping early. There were several instances when tackles would get called for a false start.    Might as well be optimistic about  Woods and Land contributing to our resurrection.
    • Nice catch Stitch.  Year two of Steichen, our very functional TE group and Downs gives me very high expectations that we will be highly effective attacking the middle of the field. If we do add another WR to help complement the other side of the field, Pittman's ability to be even more outstanding only goes up. And I feel confident another guy will be added. Our offense should be very strong for 2024.
    • I'm hopeful Colts resign Blackmon and do this in the draft
