UDFA Wide Receivers

There's going to be good competition amongst the WRs in camp.  The UDFAs that Ballard brought in all look promising.

 

Bug Howard - Probably the best chance to make the team.  If you watch his film you see he has the size and speed, but also really good hands.  What surprised me was how good a blocker he is.  If he's our 5th (or 6th) he'd be a factor on STs.

 

Trey Griffey - We all know the lineage.  I like watching film where they show more than just the highlights.  He's raw but very talented.  Great size and from what I see, he has the hands. 

 

Jerome Lane - Big body, good speed.  I confess to only watching his highlights, and I discount any catches when a guy is wide open.  But he did outrun the entire defense for about 80 yards on one of those wide open catches.  He showed a few good moves, against a decent Wisconsin defense that was playing prevent.

Also good lineage - check out the youtube of his dad breaking backboards while he was at Pitt.

 

JoJo Natson - Lane's running mate at Akron.  The opposite of the guys listed above - he's a water bug.  Talk about shifty and fast.  I doubt he makes the roster but if so, he's our return guy.

I just hope this we all maintain reasonable expectations and don't end up with another Duron Carter situation. It was awhile back I still remember how people overreacted when he cut.

I think the difference is that a lot of people thought he was a shoe in, and he looked good in camp.  And the name. 

 

I doubt most people even heard of these guys, except for Bug. Shouldn't be any great expectations.   

 

I do think Dorsett and Rogers are going to have to show out, a couple of those guys are real competition.

That's my whole point. The camp superstar is ofte very overrated. That's what Duron was. I'll be rooting for those guys to make it but I just hope if we get reports of one of them being a camp star but then they're cut, people don't overreact.
