Best available players for Colts (round 2)

Recommended Posts

A few players that are still available that I would love seeing on the Colts include...

OG Forrest Lamp

CB Chidobe Awuzie

RB Alvin Kamara

RB Dalvin Cook

CB Quincy Wilson

CB Kevin King

DE Jordan Willis

CB Sidney Jones

Those are just some of the best players I would like Indy to look at. I think ILB can be addressed later unless Ballard really likes Zach Cunningham. I feel like there is a big drop off after Foster, Davis, and Reddick. At OLB, I like the smaller school players in round 3 like Tarrell Basham or Derek Rivers. At CB, I really love Chidobe Awuzie. Another player I wouldn't mind taking a chance on is Sidney Jones.

My preference is to somehow land Forrest Lamp, even if Ballard needs to trade up a bit. Lamp would solidify this OL and we'd be getting him at a bargain in round 2. Haeg could then battle Clark at RT. Could potentially be a top 5 OL going forward with this addition, and would now have quality depth with the OL going 8 deep with Costanzo, Mewhort, Kelly, Lamp, Clark, Haeg, Schwenke, and Good.

Normally I don't like to reach for need. But there's scarcity this year at OL. If the Colts staff are serious about upgrading our running game and offensive efficiency, I think round 2 is the place you take an OL. By the time you get to the 3rd round, at this position you're getting depth guys not impact players.

However I think in the 3rd round, you could probably still pick up a good edge rusher or cornerback.

Forrest Lamp is the best OL and perhaps overall BPA, but we'd probably have to think about moving up to snag him. Dion Dawkins may fit if we stay put. Alternatively we could consider improving our running game with an RB, and go for Alvin Kamara or Joe Mixon.

Here is Chris Landry's renaming list (Horizontal board) of best available, and their overall ranking  Remember, this is a list of players via grade, not where he will be drafted (6 of Landry's 26 players graded round 1 are still on the board).  Teams make their Horizontal board based upon Grade, but also character, medical, and interview (football smarts, knowledge, etc...)..

I actually believe most teams scouting department all usually are close on players ability grades, but the intangibles separates teams on final draft board placement (and sometimes whether the guy soars or flames out). So maybe those with character issues get moved down, or players not in a position of 'need' may be unconsciously placed lower on the board as well.  While there were only 26 round one grade players on Landry's list (and no QB's) it is interesting to note he feels there are 13 guys of round 2 grade beyond the amount of 2nd round picks available, and 10 third round guys beyond the amount of round three slots available.  That is why this is considered a 'deep draft'.

I'd be happy with any of those players in the 2nd.  Prefer a CB but would be happy with any of those players.
