The 2017 Colts Forum Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the 2017 forum mock draft.  This is the second one we've done this year, with the first being dedicated to our good friend @Gavin (http://forums.colts.com/topic/50515-gavin-mock-draft-gm-game-round-1/)

Rules:

1) We're going to try and do as many rounds as possible so we can simulate the draft to the best of our abilities.  Since the draft isn't for a couple more weeks, this should be plenty of time to get at least 4 rounds in

2) Trades are allowed and can include players or this year's draft picks; as with the real draft, comp picks can be traded this year.  Future draft picks cannot be traded since they don't have any bearing in what happens in this mock

3) Please discuss all trades via PM.  All agreed trades will require public acknowledgement in this thread from both GMs involved

4) Because we have three weeks until the actual draft, we will try to give people the necessary amount of time.  As such, time limits will be as follows:

Round 1: maximum 6 hours per pick

Round 2: maximum 4 hours per pick

Round 3-7: maximum 3 hours per pick

5) In the event that a GM does not submit a pick in the time limit, they will be given the consensus highest ranked prospect from the big board that makes sense for their team (eg. the Titans wouldn't be given a QB in round one or two) based on a vote/discussion.  Because of the vote/discussion, they might not be given the highest ranked prospect available, but could be given someone within the top 5 or 10 remaining top prospects.

6) The draft will begin on Monday, April 10 at 8 AM EST.  This will give everyone the weekend to discuss trades and set their boards over the weekend.

7) This thread will contain the picks for the whole draft; I won't be making separate threads for each round.  At the end, I'll post the final results.

8) I will be keeping the topic as updated as possible and I will be using the Fanspeak big board to list the available remaining prospects

9) In the event that I don't log on for an extended period of time, @WarGhost21 and @tweezy32 are assisting in running this draft and can help answer questions.  If you know you will be away when you're on the clock, feel free to submit your picks to any of the three of us

No way the Brown's actually trade this pick.  They have a ton of picks already.  They aren't going to pass up garrett

I'm not saying I will definitely trade it, just fielding offers and weighing options! I'll probably be keeping it unless something blows me out of the water!

So if everyone takes the entire 6 hours,  we may be done before the actual draft

Saints wish to move down in rounds 2 or 3 to gain more picks. PM me with trade offers.

For a quick approximate reference, Saints' 2nd round pick value No.42 - 480, 3rd round pick value No.76 - 210

Will respond quickly, I promise and won't consume much of your time if you wish to reciprocate with quick timely responses. :)

Also, open to trading compensatory picks of the Seahawks as well for moving up or down. :)

Again,  trades make zero sense in a one season mock.   I could make an offer like every pick in the 18 draft to move up.  There is no consequences for future seasons.  It's dumb

As long as we do trades differently i.e all trades done by Monday and no trades during the draft, it can definitely work. I've seen it done right on other forums, regardless of how you feel about it.

No trades of future picks or players are being used as per the rules!

To be fair, you're criticizing zero consequence trades in a "mock" draft.  In case you arent catching my drift, you're criticizing fake trades in a fake draft as if the trades arent realistic in a realistic draft. Just sayin...

Yeah, it's a fun added wrinkle.  In last year's, we had the Cowboys trade for Adrian Peterson, so I thought it would be fun to allow it this year too.  Players and this year's draft picks can be traded, but future draft picks cannot

Ok. I was just a bit lost

Colts and Seahawks have a trade to announce.

Seahawks get the Colts' 3rd round pick #80 (value 180) and the Colts' 4th round compensatory pick #144 (value 34).

Colts get the Seahawks' 3rd round pick #90 (value 140) and the Seahawks' 3rd compensatory pick #106 (value 82).

    • I think we need to sign a vet, but Jackson isn't it. Age and his dirty playstyle are non-starters for me.   JuJu definitely flashed pretty well in the limited games we saw him in. If he's healthy, I think he'll be a solid CB for us.   He dominated every WR at the Senior Bowl, specifically in drills that heavily skew towards WRs, often using techniques he was just really learning in the pro-bowl practices (mainly press man techniques). He dominated in the MAC and dominated at Senior Bowl practices, and with his athletic traits, he projects very well to the NFL. I see him being a dominant CB in the near future. I don't necessarily want to take a CB at 15, but I wouldn't be mad if we took Mitchell.
    • There are quite a few articles on the internet that say he may transition to safety in the NFL. Interesting reads
    • He could feel that he needs Paye to develop into a more complete edge rusher. He keeps promoting that he was great as a run defender, but needs to continue improving. He invested a 1st on him, so he could very well want to retain him. My thought on drafting an edge rusher at 15 is that it works as a hedge in the event you don’t retain Paye or if the player shows far more promise than Paye moving forward. My comment about Pierce is that he invested a good draft pick on him- so the argument could be made that had Pittman walked, he would have Pierce (although we all agree that Pierce hasn’t performed like we hoped, nor would he be a wr1 by any means). He would have options this draft had Pittman not worked out.   The idea was more behind longterm planning when Pierce was drafted. Keep them coming in the pipeline so that you have options, and ideally good ones. Remember when Phillip dorsett was drafted? Many thought at the time the idea was to add to the room and hedge in the event TY walked when his contract was up. I’m not opposed to looking at stacking premium position players in the 1st round. That provides depth at the position short term and options longterm. It lessens the burden on a 1st round rookie at those positions, giving them time to develop.
    • Crazy that the draft is a month away coming up on us quickly.
    • Only 4 teams looking for GMs as of now,   NFC:    Cowboys     AFC:    Dolphins     Colts (Lucky Draw)  Ravens  Steelers
