BlueShoes Combine Shining Stars

Recommended Posts

You will notice a theme, because I am looking for defensive Shining Stars who can be immediate difference makers.

We'll start with the First Round Gems:

Unless a negative report of character or injury surfaces then it is a very good bet that both Myles Garrett and Solomon Thomas will be off the board in the top 5. Barring a catastrophe, neither will get anywhere near #15, and Garrett could even go #1.

I highly doubt Adoree' Jackson makes it to #15 either. His athletic ability is as good as it gets, and in the unlikely chance he does fall to us at #15, then we have to think really hard about coaching his talents up. I haven't seen a corner look as smooth as A.J. since Deion Sanders. Yep; I went there, and I have never compared anyone to Deion Sanders before.

Obi Melifonwu is a freak. He broad jumped 141 (Tops at the Combine). I have heard that teams are actually thinking about converting him to Edge Rusher. I say keep the man at safety and let him lock down every tight end in the league. A 6'4" safety who runs 4.4? Wow! He is another defensive back that would be very hard to pass on at #15.

Derek Barnett is a good football player and he proved (6.96 3-Cone) he can bend enough to rush from the Edge. A major upgrade to our most pressing need.

Haason Reddick is a smooth operator and would instantly upgrade the middle of our defense. His speed and athletic combination is going to shine in the NFL.

Jabrill Peppers would be a very good complement to T.J Green. This cat is all muscle, and he looked like a man amongst boys in most of those drills. Has excellent body control for a safety built that thick. Usually the muscle men are tight and struggle to move. Peppers was gliding everywhere, and it just seemed easy for him.

Jordan Willis is the perfect prototypical size for an Edge Rusher (6'4" 255) and he lit up the combine with his (6.85) 3-Cone. It's very rare to see a guy this size putting up the numbers he did. He could be a top 20 pick now, and certainly has a really good chance of going in the first round.

BlueShoe's Draft Sleepers:

I really like Derek Rivers and he performed very well in the 3-Cone (6.94). He is an upgrade on the Edge and we might be able to target him in the second round. He an Avery Moss put on a show last year at Youngstown St. He has perfect size for an Edge Rusher and plenty of bend.

At first I thought the T.J. Watt hype was more about his brother than anything else (there still may be "some" truth to that) but his numbers are speaking loudly. If his last name wasn't Watt then we would still be paying attention. I mean who is 6'5" and sports a 6.75 3-Cone? Not sure I have ever seen anyone do that before. He could move up into the first round, but might be another guy we can target in the second.

A few later-round-picks that could be gems are Vince Biegel and Pita Taumoepenu. Both had exceptional 3-Cones and decent forty times. Biegel has a foot problem and needs to get a little bit stronger to play every down. Taumoepenu is a bit undersized but is very athletic with a lot of drive. Both would be very good players to take late and use in the rotation.
