Hassan Riddick (Edge Scout #10)

Recommended Posts

All four of his game are on this webpage. http://draftbreakdown.com/players/haason-reddick/

Okay, first let me start by saying, I can't find enough video of this guy to warrant why he is rated so high. I like him tough..but...

He is small. He plays like he is huge, in that he is fearless and tenacious. He doesn't give up any play.

He is the type of player that will miss a tackle, come around and chase you down from behind. I like that, I love that.

BUT...he is to lite in the backside.

I'm never one to judge a player on size, considering we had a number of good, short players..but as fearless as he is, from what I've seen, he's gonna get ate up and be a non factor in the run game.

At DE, it's not gonna be good either.

He misses ALOT of tackles, that's his 2nd biggest problem. The size, and the bad tackling combined is a really bad combo for a team like ours. Put a guy like this on the Seahawks, and he can be a good pass rush specialist, and I know a lot of people here like him, but I'd have to say, if I was to make an analogy for him, i'd call him a Blitzing Safety.

He is super fast, and has a great burst. He has power, just not enough to make up for his size. He could embarrass an un-athletic RT, but that aren't many in the NFL who could match this guys speed.

Somebody mentioned him at Will. I think that would be the best position for him, because he has a tremendous knack for dropping back in coverage.

But I dont' think our front 3 or 4 would be a good match for a guy like him, mostly because our holes in the middle during run plays have been huge.

I cant make a definitive judgment on him, but based on the 4 games I watched, I don't' think our team is a good match for him. But he is a good player.

We need to avoid all guys who can be run liabilities, and he will definitely be one of them, unless we can put him next to a Hightower or get a Sheldon Richardson...you know in FA.

I'd have to pass on him purely because of our defensive make-up.

I cant justify taking him over about 6 other guys in the first 2 rounds.

It seems most of the negatives you mentioned are in reference to our current personnel. If he's a guy that represents your ideal WILL and is a good value at any pick, you have to look past what we have on the team. There are so many holes on this defense that there are no prospects that will succeed by themselves (regardless if they're CB, MIKE, WILL, Edge, DE, etc).

Find a guy that represents the ideal skillset for a given position and fill the spots around him until they start complementing each other.

I also forgot to mention, Temples secondary looks terrible, so that didn't help.

And coop. Our current personel was my only reason for not drafting him.

If this was the 2007 colts, i'd be all for it. But this is the 2017 colts with no pass rushers on a 3-4 scheme. So I think that's extremely important. I can't see him doing well at any position except will.

I'm would not willing to spend a first on a guy, to play a WILL that has shown he cant tackle and can get swallowed up by big guys. It just spells more of the same for our team. I think he'd succeed better on a 4-3 team with a good secondary.

I think our secondary is good enough, but I don't know if he would work out for us.

But I do think he is a good player, just not VS the run.

Most experts don't see him as an OLB. Most see him as WIL or ILB. They love his tackling ability his tenacious attitude ability to cover but mostly that he recognizes plays and lays a lick. Most agree he isn't big enough or strong enough to take on tackles regularly. They do love the idea of sending him as a blitzer and I agree. I think he can definitely help our pass rush by blitzing him. I see him late late 1st early second. Would love to get him with our second if say we don't get someone like Foster in the first and maybe take an edge rusher. Doubt it will happen but I can dream. This guy just makes plays....lots of tackles for loss and gets to the qb. We can find a place to play him for sure.

I think Riddick has a pretty good chance at being there for us in the 2nd. He got a lot of love after the Senior Bowl in the mock drafts. I think he's a day 2 guy.

I don't think he'll make it to our 2nd round pick. We may need to trade up to the top of the 2nd if he's our guy. I've said it before, I'll say it again...Reddick is my draft crush and somehow I want him on our team. He's a match-up nightmare and a DC's dream.

Idk why everyone wants to put him at ILB. Countless players have been amazing pass rushers at 6'1, most notably Robert Mathis. His elite burst and athleticism would make him a mismatch for any T in the league. He also has deceptive strength that he uses to shed blocks pretty well. He needs polish no doubt, so does every rookie in the class. He has potential to be a 10+ sack guy in the future I fully believe that. Add in the fact he can drop into zone like a ILB and he'll be one of the most dynamic defenders in the league. Mass is what's important at this point, if he's 240-245 at the combine I'm sold on his abilities as a OLB in our 3-4.

He came into the combine 6'2" 237 lbs, which is bigger than Foster, and put up 24 reps on bench press. I think he could play both positions, which is why he would be so good. He gives you so much diversity in pass rushing/blitz packages.

Thank you!! Didn't know they did measurements on LBs already. 6'2 nice, 237 is very solid considering he's staying lite to run a better 40. 24 on the bench that's pretty good, I'm going to have to compare that to the bigger edge guys but that's probably up there huh? Yes exactly gives you so much diversity and has all the potential in the world to be an elite pass rusher. I'd personally use him as an edge. Have him giving Ts a hard time with his speed making the QB account for his disruption. When he's adjusted for Hassons pass rush you drop him into a zone or he can even man up on TEs and RBs. ILB is something he can do but its another adjustment from S to DE to ILB has very few similarities between them all. I hope he runs well so picking him in the 1st can be more justifiable, either way I'm with you he's a dream to have for a DC.

It's because we are trying to get away, from the (Lighter and Faster) philosophy we used to have. We can't keep trying to convert this defense into a dominate or at least a decent one, and continue drafting shorter, lighter players.

We have to stop or start somewhere. Either go back to 4-3 and get these 6-2 230 pounds and under linebackers or go all in and start stuffing the run with some 6-5 guys and 6-4 Wills with speed and a mean streak. We have to make a break. or just go back to 4-3, we can't have both ( I mean, it's possible, but looks what's happened to our d the last few years)

I like him. Not at #15 because that's a bit high for him. But if we trade down for an extra 2nd I wouldn't mind taking him in the mid 20's as a WILL ILB. He's an upgrade over what we have already.

Interested to see his combine.

And Mayock was talking all day yesterday about how because of the Patriots, the league is shifting towards being all about matchups. Guys that can do one thing really well and you use them to create mismatches.

We've had the biggest defense in the league (size wise) since Pagano took over.....and we've consistently been at the bottom of the league defense. Size does not a good defense make. It comes down to technique, ability, and fundamentals. This league is vastly changing from size to speed ever more increasingly. Spread offenses...trying to get players in space...qbs that get rid of the ball faster...I prefer speed over size. That said we want guys that make plays...it doesn't matter what their size...can they tackle...do they win their battles. I'd much rather have a guy that like Hassan that has made plays his whole career then a 6'4 Adonis that is inconsistent and relies on athleticism to win...or takes plays off. It's been proven time and again by many men that many of the best players in the league didn't have prototypical size but the heart to be great. This kid isn't tiny...but he plays with a big heart. I like him. Love to get him in the second but I have my doubts he will still be there.

Pagano did say that when he saw how Atlanta turned their D around it was all about speed.   Sign of things to come.

Pretty good measurable.

If we get him, we got go speed and natural cover ability (he walked on as a corner) but we loose power and run discipline. Unless he can be coached up.

What? He did 24 reps at 238 and has room to get bigger without sacrificing athleticism. Get him to 240ish, with his skills, he'll be an excellent blitzing LB as well as a guy who can pick up RB's and TE's. I would not be mad at all to get him in the bottom of the first and Jarrad Davis in the second. Gives us two rangy, athletic ILB's for the next 5 years+. Pound cake and Morrison as backups I could live with.

Mayock was making comparisons to Deion Jones and I think that's pretty accurate. He's been a game changer for Atlanta and exactly what we've needed for years. There's usually only a few ILB's each year in the draft that have the range to cover TE's and RB's and they usually go early.

Reddick has the athleticism, awareness, skillset, and motor to be a top ILB. He already showed in the short time at the Senior Bowl his ability to not only learn a new position, but do well in it on the field. I can't say it enough that he's on my list at 15.

And Reddick is 15lbs heavier than Jones and just as, if not more, athletic. I think he can easily be a Thomas Davis-type LB for us. Get him to 240-242 and turn him loose. I'm afraid, with how his combine has went, that he won't make it past 20.

I'd almost guarantee he won't make it out of the 1st. There's also a chance that a team in front of us falls in love with him and pulls the trigger early, especially with the negative buzz around Foster. I like Foster on field, but I feel like they are 2 completely different guys. One was on scholarship to play ILB for a defensive juggernaut, the other was a walk-on DB at Temple that moved to DE and was a force. One may be an entitled star (depending on how things actually happened at the combine), the other is a lunch-pail guy that plays with a chip on his shoulder. I'd almost take Reddick based on the mentality he brings to the table.

Yeah. His play said first rd all along. His size left questionmarks and I thought he might fall to the second. Now with his combine it basically puts him right back into the first I'd say. I wouldn't be disappointed if we took him depending on what was there....but the dream of taking say Mckinnley in the first and Hassan in the second is officially dead (as it should have always been). Just so many guys I'd love to help our team with...honestly I think whomever Ballard goes with I really think we could build around the top 3 or 4 picks for us in this draft.

If we don't get him, I would not be bummed. His tackling is bad, and I can't comment on his angles or anything.

He definitely is a good talent, but going from corner, to de to OLB and the the NFL straight to MLB, man, that in itself is kind of a risk.

I think Tackling is the easiest thing to coach so it not like he wont work out. I'd just rather have a guy at our spot, that you don't have to worry about that kind of thing.

Imma try to find some more vids, but those 24 reps don't help him shed blockers.

those are my ONLY 2 probs with him. He gets swallowed up a lot, and he misses a lot of tackles. Not something you want from an ILB. He is good, but he is risky.

He definitely looks like he can play man coverage tough...but i'd hate to have a guy like this with great cover skills, being yet another reason, teams are putting up 150 yards rushing. That's my dilemma with him.

I never thought his tackling was suspect. The transitions shouldn't be a concern at all. What you need to look at is his overall skillset. He's the kind of guy you make your defense work for, not force into your defense.

He's not the guy you get to be your premier run stopper. As I said, he's your blitzing LB who can also cover RB's and TE's. He's an everydown player regardless of what play/scheme you run. As Shive stated, you build the scheme around him, not force him into the scheme. As I said in another post, I see a Jamie Collins type player.

I was thinking the same thing earlier! He's a bit smaller than Collins, but brings that same versatility and is exactly how I would use Reddick. If we don't take him, I just need the football gods to keep the Pats from drafting him..

I hate to say it but if Garrapolo gets unloaded for what they think they'll get out of him, they'll have more than enough ammo to go get him. With them unloading Collins earlier in the season and set to cut Hightower loose, it wouldn't surprise me to see them make a run at him given the opportunity.

I don't see Reddick as an OLB for the Colts.     But I do some just like Eric Kendricks of UCLA last year, only slightly bigger and even more athletic.

He'd be the WILL inside backer next to our MIKE.      I think he was born for that spot.

Now, whether or not Ballard loves him to enough to spend the 15 on him,  or move back and get some picks and take him later in the round is another story.

But call me a fan of the kid all day long......

Pass rushing OLB with coverage skills I've said it and I'll say it again. Called his 4.5 40 but everything else was better then expected to me. Great vert, broad jump was historic for DL which he's not but still best since 2003, and even his bench was very solid. He looked nice bending the corner in the * drills and had a nice pop. Looked fast in the open field drills but still pretty raw doesn't keep his feet underneath his butt transitioning into his back pedal and almost slips. I'd take him at 15 all day every day as an OLB!!

I've been thinking, and why is Foster rated above Reddick? Reddick is taller, weighs more, is just as fast if not faster. And im going to say better in coverage.

The edge-rusher dropped into space 10.5 percent of the time in 2016, per Pro Football Focus. Reddick displayed the instincts in his drop to quickly recognize the play unfolding in front of him and drive on the football.

If foster was a top 5 pick. How is taking Reddick at 15 a reach?

im officially on the Hassan Reddick hype train.

He's not going to be an OLB in the NFL. He's already confirmed he's going to be an ILB.

I was lucky enough to attend the combine on Sunday. I'm sold on him. Foster may drop a few spots unless he blows scouts away at his pro day.

I don't think he is anymore. Some fans still may not have convinced themselves to pull the trigger at 15, but most outlets have him as a consensus top 15-20 prospect now.

NFL.com moved his grade to a 6.25 which places him at #19 overall.

I'd be pretty happy with this pick. He would step in to the WILL spot right away and be perfect for some of the exotic blitz packages Monachino tried to utilize this past season.
