To those saying the SoS is meaningless, read the article, as it pretty much dispels your theory. And if it really means jack, would you honestly prefer Denver's schedule to ours? I thought not, unless you want Pagano definitely fired.

In that case, I would take Denver's schedule.

Not really. The key is whether it's calculated before the season, or after the season.

Speaking of the Falcons, they demonstrated why a preseason strength of schedule can be misleading. Before the 2016 season started, the Falcons were set to play the league’s most-difficult schedule. But after the games were played, Atlanta actually played the eighth-easiest schedule. One big reason: Before last season, the Panthers counted as a 15-1 record toward Atlanta’s strength of schedule; the Panthers finished 6-10, representing a 9-game swing.

Playing the most difficult schedule almost never works out well. Of the teams playing the 10 most difficult schedules in 2016 (calculated after the season), none made the playoffs.

No it is not. 4 of 5 with the easiest SoS made the play-offs, prior to the season. 2 of 8 made it, when facing the hardest SoS. So it is not ALL about the post season calculation.

None of those five teams wound up with a top five easiest schedule, based on opponent record. The Packers and Giants wound up playing two of the hardest schedules in the league, not the easiest.

Same thing for those eight teams with the hardest schedules prior to the season. Four of them were NFC West teams, which wound up with easy schedules. Three others were the NFC South teams, which wound up with easier schedules due to the Panthers falling off. The Falcons in particular wound up with an average schedule. The 8th team was the Jets, who also wound up with an average schedule. The Chiefs, Raiders, Texans and Steelers all wound up with harder schedules than the Jets, and they all made the playoffs in the same conference.

Preseason SoS projections get turned on their head every year. All it takes is for one of your 13 opponents to be significantly better or worse than they were the previous season, and that's pretty much a given every season.

Thanks for this.
