Remembering Gavin

I have to say I was stunned when I read of Gavin's passing.

It was like getting punched in the gut.

I was looking forward to his Draft Profile Reports that are so nice to read this time of year.

I've only been mocking for 2 seasons, this season will be my 3rd. His Draft reports gave us so much information. I kinda felt good when teams known for drafting well like the Steelers, Ravens, and Giants happen to draft a player that I had in one of my mocks. I'm sure Gavin's reports contributed.

But I felt even better when Gavin himself had one of my guys in his mocks.

R.I.P. fellow Colt Fan, you are already being missed on this forum.

On January 24, 2017, the Colts Forum lost a treasured member of its family, @Gavin

Brandon Lee Marshall, known as Gavin to us, was a long-time member (Senior Member and Hall of Famer).  A diehard Colts, Cubs, and Pacers fan, he was active on the forum nearly every day, sharing his thoughts and insights. He had over 25,000 posts and more than 7000 likes. He made us laugh. We learned so much from him; his contributions will be missed.

We are not aware of the cause of death, but regardless of the cause, he was taken from us too soon and we'll miss him.

So glad Gavin (Brandon) got to see the Cubs win the World Series. And he shared his joy with us. Now he can celebrate with Harry Caray and all other Cubs greats.

RIP Gavin.  We miss you.

Please use this space to share your remembrances of our brother Gavin.

One thing I will remember about Gavin is that he, much like Nadine and Superman, was cool-headed enough to squash quibbling on these boards.

I am embarrassed that a few times I have gotten into "cat-fights" with other members about silly things.  But each time, someone like Nadine, Superman, or Gavin stepped in and brought perspective.  The amount of respect that we have for these guys, alone, would be enough to cool hot heads, but it's the way they talk to people that builds that respect.  We all have our opinions, and we think we're right, but not all of us respect differing opinions.

I will miss Gavin, and I want to "shout out" some respect to all the members and moderators like Gavin.  Your level heads and way of communicating is head and shoulders above the rest.  Gavin was a voice you listened to, whether you agreed with his opinion or not, you respected him.

Gavin -  You, along with others, made me a better forum member.  You will be missed.  RIP.

Awesome post. :agree:

With the draft coming up in a few days I will personally dedicate our first round pick to Gavin which now means for sure this pick will work out now and be excellent.

This years draft season definitely hasn't been the same without Gavin...

I'll definitely be dedicating that first pick on Thursday to Gavin with you...

I've been absent for a long while, and am saddened to hear this.  Gavin was a genuinely interesting contributor here, one who stayed above the fray, and constantly sought and shared knowledge and insight about this team and the game of football.

One yr later doesn't even seem possible. Gavin treated everyone with respect & he never lorded over his football knowledge against anyone. Everybody liked him & for good reason. He was sincere, genuine, & always happy to discuss the Colts, the Pacers, movies, or favorite TV shows from his youth. A darn nice guy.

I actually stumbled across this tonight & thought of Gavin.

I know Gavin probably had other interests besides the original "Karate Kid" film. He was clearly well versed in NFL draft selection expertise than I will ever be. I just know that he enjoyed this movie franchise & I believe Gavin would have gotten a kick out of this updated version. I apologize in advance if posting this clip violates an PG forum standards in advance moderators. Thanks for understanding.

This reboot looks just cheesy enough to be hysterical. You know, mid life crisis meets a good ole fashion comedy brawl.

I miss ya man & even though SW1 isn't a game film master; I think we both enjoyed watch quality cinema man.

When something triggers a memory of a person I liked, I will always feature it in honor of them. It's the highest accolade I can give.

    • This is spot on. Small market, and people want to think a St Elmo's steak, the combine and Manning's legacy is enough for people to want to just come to Indy to play. We don't have the night life, climate, roster or tax breaks to incentivize anyone to come here.  So the only way to do it is money.  We would automatically have to mark up every offer we want to make by 5-10% to have a chance at most of the top guys.  And the unfortunate reality of first tier free agents is that their value already gets marked up 20% to that players actual worth, so Ballard is probably out before the real negotiations are even taking place. We can afford to do that move for like ONE marquee player when the roster is ready....but not now, not on a good player who hit free agency because their former team didn't find them important enough to keep them.  We can never fall back on the fact that a we can lure a player here because of external factors.....because those will typically work against us. There was extensive discussion about this on page 48 of this thread.
    • Yeah, his athleticism is from another planet.     To bad he doesn't believe in it(anything outside of the Earth). That media availability at the combine, didn't help his draft stock.
    • If they stick to that logic:    Tyler Owens SAF Texas Tech 12’2”   The broad jump record of 12 feet and three inches belongs to former Connecticut cornerback Byron Jones, who set the mark in 2015. Jones went on to be a first-round pick and it’s likely in part due to the explosive athleticism he showcased in this very drill.    He almost tied the record for longest broad jump
    • This. Ballard has already traded a first round pick and got an additional 2nd. He had to trade out of the first round and the 2nd was the following year. I believe it was with Washington.  I’m with you. I highly doubt any team will give up their 1st and 2nd or 3rd for the 15th pick.
    • Yep Love at first sight is a real thing. Congratulations Anthony and Jada.
