My bad.    I must have read it hastily and assumed you were referring to Bird in a bad way.

I agree that we don't know how Manning would do as GM.  Personally, I would put my money on him being successful.   He seems to always make wise decisions whether in life or on the field.   I think it is mostly because he puts in the time and does the research before making a decision.   A well researched educated guess is better than a typical Grigson guess.

I am pretty disheartened by the Grigson/Pagano era. I think we can do better. Since they are staying I just hope they grow as GM/Coaches and do a better job. That said I just haven't seen enough there to say I feel confident "personally" to think they will get this thing turned around. For me staying the course is great for consistency but if the course is headed to Greenland and not a beautiful island in the carribean then well I'd rather us weather some storms and get this thing turned around even if we have a to hire a new captain.

For my money I think Bird has done ok...had his share of hits and misses...in a small market like Indiana in basketball his job is much more difficult but overall he puts a good product on the court. I'm sure with Manning we could do the same. The learning curve might be a little rough for a bit but in the end I trust his judgement of talent and what it takes to win. If he gets a front office job I won't complain.

You have no clue if they are staying or not.

This whole no info thing has me wondering if Irsay is waiting to talk to Saban since they are still in their season.  Not sure if that is bad or good but it makes me wonder.

Why Saban. There's plenty of other valid candidates still in season.

Irsay said no changes.

There have been no changes.

If that doesn't draw a precise map to what exactly is going on then I'm not sure there are enough crayons left in the box to explain it to you.

There is literally no reason for Irsay to repeat what he already stated just a couple weeks ago.

"Don't call us, we'll call you."

Are people seriously gonna carry this on until Irsay comes out to hold your hand to cross the finish line?

What if he decides to never reiterate what he's already said? Is this % still gonna be a topic in training camp? September? "Well he never said..."

Jesus. Get a grip people.

I think he has done OK too.  I thought the offseason moves he made last year were great.   I thought the team would be much better than they are playing now.

In the NBA, it's hard to build a great team in a small market that doesn't attract top level free agents.  It's also tough when you win 35+ games every season.   It's pretty rare when great players fall to the 20+ draft positions.   Last time the Pacers had a top 10 pick they got Paul George.   Last time they had a top 5 pick they got Rik Smits.   Lots of teams that are good have a top 5 pick in their recent past.

JMV said yesterday that Peyton didn't feel ready but there was mutual interest.

There are also rumors out there that Manning wanted partial ownership. Don't know if I can see that. I mean, how much money do you need after a while? haha.

I can see why Irsay would turn down Peyton if Peyton was asking for a stake in ownership.  That makes it nearly impossible for replace Peyton one day if he's not successful and that's a ridiculous thing to give to any first time GM even if he is the biggest star in that franchise's history.

Also based on what's being reported here I think Irsay wanted Peyton and it doesn't look like that is going to happen so he's now working on plan B whatever that might be which is why we still haven't heard from Irsay.

Brad Wells came up with that theory on his podcast. He said Irsay should offer Manning minority ownership. Then Wells "reported" Irsay didn't want to give that up, he then followed that up by reporting he (Wells) was headed out to buy cat food. But hey, the former blogger who lives in Vancouver has a source!

No,  No he didn't.     He had a lot of pull,  No question.   But dungy was in charge

Dungy was a good coach I'm not denying that just saying he was overrated,  but I'd take him in a heartbeat over Pagano..I'm just saying Peyton would make a lot of coaches look good...Ask John Fox..

John Fox got to an SB with Jake Delhomme as a QB

I think Kubiak might be a better argument. Even at his advanced age the Broncos offense managed to look more inept after Manning retired.

Didn't Fox go to a Superbowl with Jake Delhomme?

Of course a great qb makes a coach look good.

Kubiak should thank Wade Philips..

Delhomme was actually a very good QB,  even an all-pro at 1 time..They had a great defense and running game too..Ask Chicago Bears how good Fox is..

The Bears would have been bad this year if Belichick were head coach.

    • BBZ, what do you mean when you say Brents will be successfully targeted because of his size and speed? Aren't those his good traits?
    • Right. But we also are expected to draft a corner, So the fact that DeJean can play either position, makes me think Ballard could have his eye on him.
    • As a Ballard type player, he seems to fit the bill.  Big 10. Excels at zone coverage. Elite athlete. Special Teams standout, Good tackler. etc. Colts may be able to trade back, and still land DeJean   Considered one of the Safest picks. Seven 2024 NFL Draft Prospects Who Are Safest Bets to Succeed at Next Level https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10113875-7-2024-nfl-draft-prospects-who-are-safest-bets-to-succeed-at-next-level   DB Cooper DeJean, Iowa   A fractured fibula during a November practice tempered any excitement regarding Cooper DeJean's draft status. So he's not been in the same conversations as the class' top defensive backs, specifically Toledo's Quinyon Mitchell and Alabama's Terrion Arnold. DeJean's profile projects just as well or better than the aforementioned cornerbacks.   Three specific attributes set DeJean's floor higher than anyone else among the back end.   First, the reigning Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year presents the positional flexibility and traits to start at cornerback or safety at the professional level, with B/R's Cory Giddings highlighting his coverage skills:   "DeJean excels in zone coverage, but he's versatile enough to play man as well. He shows a smooth backpedal and the ability to keep his leverage and quick footwork with few wasted steps. Although he transitions well, there are times where DeJean hops into his breaks; allowing a step of separation.   "When in zone, DeJean does a great job of reading and reacting to the quarterback's eyes. Pairing that skill set with his route recognition, he often puts himself in good position with leverage and positioning.   "While working downfield, DeJean has the strength necessary to hand-fight with tight ends and bigger receivers, as well as the speed necessary to carry twitchier receivers downfield. He also does a very good job of locating the ball and playing through the catch point."   Second, the high school track standout is an elite athlete who captured Iowa state titles in the long jump and 100-meter dash. Many expected him to blow the doors off Lucas Oil Stadium. Unfortunately, he wasn't ready to test in Indianapolis after being cleared a few weeks earlier.   "His acceleration is incredibly fluid and super powerful," NFL combine trainer Jordan Luallen told The Athletic's Bruce Feldman last summer. "He's the best athlete I've seen in person, pound for pound."   Finally, DeJean adds significant value as an elite collegiate returner. Big Ten coaches also awarded him Return Specialist of the Year this past season. DeJean averaged 13.1 yards per punt return over the last two seasons. A top-notch contributor anywhere along the defensive backfield and on special teams will provide excellent value in the NFL.   Potential Landing Spots: Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles
    • He could, but I think he's way more athletic than people give him credit for and projects way better as CB. Definitely could be a good safety, but I think if we drafted him, he fits well as a boundary corner for us.
    • I think we need to sign a vet, but Jackson isn't it. Age and his dirty playstyle are non-starters for me.   JuJu definitely flashed pretty well in the limited games we saw him in. If he's healthy, I think he'll be a solid CB for us.   He dominated every WR at the Senior Bowl, specifically in drills that heavily skew towards WRs, often using techniques he was just really learning in the pro-bowl practices (mainly press man techniques). He dominated in the MAC and dominated at Senior Bowl practices, and with his athletic traits, he projects very well to the NFL. I see him being a dominant CB in the near future. I don't necessarily want to take a CB at 15, but I wouldn't be mad if we took Mitchell.
