Meanwhile...nothing but cricket sounds out of St. Louis.  There apparently have been offers made to Wainwright and Molina.  So, we'll see what happens.  But, if they both come back, there's been nothing else done to improve the team.  And, we let Wong go, too.

However, the Reds and Pirates are worse so far than this past season.  Milwaukee has done nothing and the Cubs are losing players.  So, I guess maybe the Cardinals will be okay...we shall see and there's lots of time before the season starts.

Well I heard some sirens today, i think there was a crash on the highway behind my apartment (Live in STL). On the Cards, at least you guys havent been trading or releasing half your team. Dewitt also expects about 12,000 fans at games most likely, with increases and possibly full even by end of season.

I am guessing it will be Cubs and Cards up at the top of Division next year, fighting to see who gets the 3 seed. Mil, can do their annoying crap, but I am not certain they will as their luck may have run out

Pitching concerns me with the Cubs more than anything. I still love the fact we have guys like Bryant, Baez, and Rizzo - that helps.

Yes, we have been able to avoid trading and releasing players and the core is still there (minus Molina and Wainwright at the moment).  We have some young talent that continues to develop.  I expect more changes and movement next year after some bad contracts come off the books to free up $$$.

I am not sure though how long KB will be there though. WIlson, Baez and Rizzo I feel are more likely to be around. And ya pitching will be the biggest question, just as we do not have 5 starters

True, but isnt the core getting old? And the younger guys, haven't been much up in Majors? I am not sure I havent followed you guys as close.

Hank Aaron dies at the age of 86. RIP Hammer.

Lots of baseball greats have died in the last 8 months or so. I feel old haha. All the baseball legends that I used to read about in baseball history have died, except Willie Mays, Sandy Koufax and Vin Scully (broadcaster). Just recently Tommy Lasorda and Don Sutton died. Now Hank Aaron.  :(

RIP

Last time I seen Vin Scully he did not look well, he is 93 and is still living. I loved him as an announcer. Regarding Hank Aaron, he is a top 10 baseball player of all-time IMO and there have been a ton of great players.

Vin Scully was the best announcer ever. I loved listening to him call a game. It was natural, nothing contrived. Very professional.

Okay. Thanks. I thought you wrote "Mets traded Thor for 3 prospects". haha

Are they good prospects? I liked Matz. I will read about it tomorrow. Thanks for letting me know.

Haha that would be something, those prospects would have to be top.

And from what I heard they are modest, nothing special,

The Cardinals finally did something!!!  Signed Wainwright to a one year deal.  They are talking to Molina, but no news about a pending deal yet.

Really feel sorry for fans of Cleveland and Pittsburgh as they sit and watch their teams get dismantled.  I know they've been getting prospects in return, but Pittsburgh has been "rebuilding" for years.  It has to be frustrating.

Joc Pederson signs with Cubs to 1 yr. 7mil deal with mutual option.

Jake Arrieta, The Shark, Mike Folywicetsaasdasda, and Carlos Rondon are guys the Cubs were watching to see throw (And the 2 middle i have no clue how to spell last names)

I was getting ready to post about Joc, you beat me too it. I would love to have Jake for a solid 1 year deal. I thought Jake was still under contract with the Phillies though?

Nope he is a FA. And it is funny tonight is the only one I am on this early. I normally worked 830-9 or so all week do to audit season.

Also Nolan Arenado is to be traded to the Cardinals, as long as MLB and Players Union approve certain parts.

Jake is my favorite Pitcher of all-time in a Cubs uniform. 2-0 in WS games (2016) and CY Young winner in 2015. Would love to have him back for a year or 2.

Looks like the Cardinals are making a trade for Nolan Arenado.

https://www.si.com/mlb/2021/01/30/nolan-arenado-trade-cardinals-rockies-steal

This would be great.

Since 2015, Arenado leads all third basemen in games played (835), hits (952), home runs (207) and OPS (.926). His 33.0 WAR over those six seasons ranks third in the majors—behind only Mike Trout and Mookie Betts—and first among third basemen.

Arenado is also one of the best defensive third basemen ever. He’s won the Gold Glove award in each of his eight seasons. He leads all active third basemen in fielding runs, and already ranks 11th all-time at the position.

Mickey Callaway, former Mets manager and current Angels Pitching Coach, has been accused by multiple female reporters over a number of years and teams, of sexual harassment and sending lewd photos/asking for photos

Goodness gracious. Over a number of years? This is the first I am hearing of this.

What happened to the Mets GM who had been with the Cubs? What was he accused of? I never followed up on that.

Yep number of years and three teams, It was just last night reported, he has been suspended by LAA and will be fired most likely after investigation as the allegations have been considered credible, he is still denying them though.

(Mets GM) He was fired the very next morning. he was admitted to sending inappropriate and lewd photos to a reporter from another country that was covering MLB. Including his junk.  She has since left Journalism all together after returning home.

He is the story on porter https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30737248/ny-mets-gm-jared-porter-acknowledges-sending-explicit-images-female-reporter-worked-chicago-cubs

Kolten Wong signed by MIL. 2 years 18 mil

And also Cubs truck of equipment is on its way to AZ now

Wong's defense will be missed in St. Louis and he was a fan favorite.  But, now Edman can move to 2B with the HUGE addition of Arenado to play third.  Just need to re-sign Molina to another year.  I see Cardinals are also in the market to add a FA starting pitcher if the money is right.

What does that mean? They are preparing for pitchers and catchers?

I have not followed much baseball. The Cards seem to be building a nice team.

Yes, equipment being sent by all teams to their Spring Training sites.  Pitchers and catchers typically report first and the others show up a week to 10 days later.

Cardinals are already better than last season...strong corner infield defense and offense.  They also dumped Fowler's contract last night in a trade to the Angels, so now top prospect Dylan Carlson will be the regular right fielder.  We have a young outfield, but lots of potential there, too.
