Hairline fracture in Baez thumb. Seeing specialist to see how long he needs to be out, possibly rest of season. :wall:

Russell is not the answer at SS, better at second. They really need to look at bringing up first round pick Nico Hoerner at SS if he’s healthy, at least while Baez is out. Contreras is out again tonight, not sure what that’s all about. They will run one Caratini all night, again. No Zobrist either, giving him a rest day, lol. Madden does kill me sometimes.

Yeah I heard the bad news, we can't catch a break. I still think we find a way to make the playoffs but winning the division will really be tough now. El Mago is a great player.

Yep, right in the kisser!

This is not the Cubs year, they will not go far in the playoffs playing like this, if they even make it that far. Would love to be wrong.

I agree, it looks bad. The Cubs have their moments where they look like world beaters for 4 or 5 games in a row, then they look like a Triple A team for 4 or 5 games. I hate to say it but it isn't our year. Our Bullpen should be ashamed of themselves because they have blown a ton of games. Theo needs to fix this in the offseason.

I'm starting to feel a bit of confidence growing for the Cardinals.   With 7 more games against the Cubs, I am not sold on them winning the division.   The Cubs have an easier schedule the rest of the way:

Cubs remaining series not against each other:

Padres

Pirates

Reds

Pirates

257 wins

Cardinals:

Rockies

Brewers

Nationals

Diamonbacks

288 wins

I think the Cards will win the division, yes Cubs have 7 games left with them but you guys are healthier and hold a 4.5 game lead. I picked the Cards to win the division before the season started actually. The Cubs have their work cut out for them just to make a Wildcard. Baez appears to be out for the rest of the regular season, Russell is now out with a concussion, and Kimbrel is out for a while. Also Hamels still isn't 100% yet either. Cubs are only 1.5 ahead of the D-Backs for that final Wildcard spot. That is too close for my taste. The Cubs in reality at worse need to take 3 of 4 from the Padres and take advantage of playing a weaker opponent.

So you may be rooting for the Cardinals to win their Diamondback series if the Cubs haven't gotten within 2 games of the division lead?

That is a great question because to me it is just get into the playoffs then anything can happen. I would prefer the Cubs winning the division obviously (it makes the playoff road easier) but I need both those teams to lose in reality. In the end I just want the Cubs to get in no matter how.

Doesnt matter who the Cubs play lately,  the Cubs seem to be in a funk they can’t get out of. And now some key injuries and a couple of pitchers who can’t seem to get out of the first few innings without getting beat up. It’s going to be tough.

Looks like the Cubs first round draft pick, Nico Hoerner, will start tonight in place of Baez. Time to see what he’s got.

These final 20 games will be interesting, Nico has high praise from the organization so we will see.

If anything maybe it’s an opportunity for him to show his stuff and maybe trade him this offseason for some guys who can bat or some pitchers, Baez still has many years ahead of him I believe.

Cardinals up by 4 as of today.  This will go down to the wire and they do have a tougher schedule than the Cubs, but the Cubbies are dealing with some injuries, so the easier schedule may be a wash.

I'm also excited about the Rays, who have become my AL team to follow.  I live near Louisville, so I got to see McKay, Solak and Ray play here together.  Before a recent trade, McKay and Solak were playing in Durham and Ray is in San Antonio (Brewers).  Solak gets traded to the Rangers organization and is called up not long after and is doing well for Texas as an injury replacement.

Meanwhile, McKay has been up and down with Tampa the past few weeks, but now is on the Rays roster the remainder of the season.  He pitched 3.1 innings over the weekend with 7 K's.  I think they're limiting his pitches to keep him fresh.

Anyway, it's a shame the Rays can't draw crowds.  They are a young, fun team to watch.  They do the little things to win games and do it without high paid superstars on the roster.

My dream World Series would be Cards v. Rays.

Yeah Nico had a heck of a game, Cubs win 10-2. We have to keep winning because we are only 2 ahead of the Brewers for that final Wildcard spot. 4 back of the Cards for the division.

Cubs and Cardinals both lose.  Cards lose in a pitchers duel in Coors Field...don't hear that very often.

Brewers now have to finish without Yelich, which will be a challenge.

I recall when the Marlins were cleaning house a couple of years ago that most Cardinals fans on their forum wanted Yelich over Ozuna, and now I can see why.  Wish we'd made that deal instead, despite his injury last night.  Of course, does he do as well in Busch Stadium as he's done in Miller Park?

I feel kind of bad now for hating on him the other day he was en route for another MVP and having an amazing year. Bad deal.

Yeah I do not wish injury on anyone and I can't stand the Brewers. It is mainly their fanbase I can't stand which trickles down to disliking the team. On other message boards some of their fans were happy that Baez was out and it was disgusting. I guess sometimes KARMA can actually come back to bite some people. Having said all of that, Cubs have their own problems. They lost again last night and just can't get over their inconsistent ways. Just making the playoffs would be a great accomplishment at this point.

I followed the Brewers for a few seasons, because their AAA affiliate was here in Louisville (River Bats) between the many years we were a Cardinals farm team and now currently the Reds AAA team.

I saw Geoff Jenkins and a few others come through Louisville on their way to Milwaukee.  Got to see a game in County Stadium in its final season as they were constructing Miller Park.  We got there and people were tailgating in the parking lot before a Brewers game!  I asked someone why, and they said, "summer is short here, so we party as often as we can."

We didn't have tickets and were going to buy cheap bleacher seats when a guy comes up to us with a handful of tickets.  Then, some guy in a blazer with a name tag walks up and says, "you're not going to sell those tickets, are you?"  The first guy hesitates and says, "no, I have a bunch of extras and was going to give them to these fellas."  So, we got free tickets down the first base line!  I guess scalping was illegal on stadium property.

Now, the best thing about the Brewers is Bob Uecker, the throwback uniforms and logo, and front row Amy :)

I actually never really had a problem with the Brewers until last season. After reading 1000's of posts from their fanbase turned me against them. Their hate for the Cubs is unreal too. It is too bad what happened too Yelich, I didn't want that to happen but the way some Brewers fans acted last season when Bryant was out and now Baez being out was downright pitiful.

It is ok to hate a team and root against them but when one cheers injury that is just wrong. It wasn't just 4 or 5 trolls on a message board doing it with the Cubs injuries, it was a few hundred Brewers fans doing it. Also their fans were very big headed last season and going into this season. Win a World Series 1st before talking big is what I say. Cubs fans have a right to talk great about their team, we won a World Series recently.

Yes don't look now Brewers tied with Cubs , however I believe the bite in the Brewers without Yelich is going to be minimal even though they set at 4 games back.

Hard to beat Uecker the ex Cardinal . He is comical to say the least. Loved it when I was young would watch him on the Johnny Carson show , it was a riot.

Our Bullpen flat out sucks and I am sick of Yelich. Why even pitch to him? We have given away at least 10 games this season where we had the lead in the 8th inning. SMH.

I was asking that same question early in the year when he had hit like 7 homers against the Cards. The Cards found a way to pitch him with good results second half of season.
