I wonder if the Cards are playing a double header today? Cubs are actually 73-61 lol.

The Cardinals had to play 2 double-headers in a row.  I'm a bit afraid that 4 games in 2 days is going to mess with the arms of the rotation.

Just wanted to let everyone know I still feel healthy, just working a lot. Hozer and I miss doing play by play of Cubs games on here and commenting on the games. Everything will be back to normal soon

I just got an anonymous call on my phone which I usually don't answer when I don't see a number I recognize. I answered it and the person said SOX and hung up.  I have no clue who it was

Cardinals took 3 of 4 in the back to back double headers.  Great weekend for them and they took game one of the series with the Giants.  It's tough to play 4 games in 2 days on any level, but if they go on to win the division, they may look back to this past weekend as a key series.  If they had lost 3 of 4, who know what kind of effect that could have had.

Back up to a 3 game lead as the playoff race intensifies.

Cubs win 6-1 over the Mariners to improve to 75-63. Still in control of the final wildcard spot = 2.5 games ahead of the Phillies who are 72-65. Fly the flag Hozer. Just 24 games left folks.

Boy was it great to see Benny back out there!!! And Contreras with a HR at his first at bat after coming back??? Wow!!! Oh, and it would have been a shutout if the Ump wouldn’t have screwed up, that run should NOT have counted as he crossed after the third out....but oh well, CUBS WIN!!!! Hopefully Javy and MVP come back from injury soon.

The 1st WS ever played was in 1903. Since 1903 - 2019, (MLB history) the Cubs have never made the playoffs 5 seasons in a row.  The Cubs have a chance to make the playoffs 5 seasons in a row here in 2019 = 2015-2019 and we won the WS in 2016. That is the goal as of now, just making the playoffs. I would love to win the NL Central but just getting in gives us as good as chance of anyone winning it all. Lets say it does come down to us and the Nats in a 1 game wildcard game take all, who would you guys want pitching for the Cubs? I am not sure right now. Nats currently hold the 1st wildcard spot.

Yeah I agree it is 50/50 between those 2. I would probably roll with the Professor only because he has WS experience on the team. Right now I do not trust Lester, Yu, or Hamels in a 1 game situation.

You’re right I didn’t take that into consideration.....Professor for sure!

Who is the Professor? Lester? Hamels?

Yu should pitch the Wild Card game.

Yu in playoffs with previous teams= No Bueno.

Hopefully he has turned the corner, but still makes me nervous.

-Very nice! Cubs beat the BrewCrew 10-5. We widen the lead for that final Wildcard spot.

-The race for the final Wildcard spot heading into September 6th looks like this:

Cubs 76-63

D-backs 73-67 (3.5 back)

Phillies 72-67 (4 back)

-The NL Central standings look like this now:

Cards 79-61

Cubs 76-63 (2.5 back)

BrewCrew 71-68 (now 7.5 back lmao )

-Cubs are only 2.5 out of 1st in the NL Central, so winning the division is still possible.

-Fly the flag Hozer.

What is wrong with Cole Hamels?

Having hard time being himself after his injury, such a shame. Hope he can get it together....man we had a chance to get closer to the Cards since they lost, too!

    • In response to a question, what other GM would you rather have? I responded that it seems that we are not getting good mileage out of our picks as much as some other teams, and more mileage than others.  That is a mild opinion because I really didn't care about picking a name and going down a list of draft picks.  I'm happy with Ballard, but just off the top.   I think Baltimore continues to get more mileage.  Starting with 2017 when they picked Marlon Humphry at pick 16 when the first 15 teams passed on him.  And they've done a good job at building a team around a specialty QB a non universal franchise QB because they were astute enough to see they would never be in position to get one, so they built around what they could get.   Gruden has done a great job with LV.  In part because he jettisoned his aged WR he inherited and boldly stocked up on WRs in the draft when it was deep with talent.   Pittsburgh has Ben of course, but they have been able to convert from a smash mouth team to an arial attack offense, even after losing their stud but troubled #1 WR,    KC.  They pick players to suit their game.   SF. They have done well with lots of capital.  They had a lot, but at least their mileage got them into the playoffs.   SEA, GB.  Always contenders.  Having the QB helps.     Bills have done pretty well.  Didn't squander a high valued pick on a non high value position, and even traded up to get it.   TENN has done well.  Added a complimentary QB to their smash mouth running game.  Picked a great WR in round 2 a couple of years ago.   OTOH, NE has not drafted well, and now it shows up better as their QB has moved on.   ARIZ seems to always have lots of capital, but seems to get bad mileage out of it.
    • IDK. We came out throwing on 1st from the start when Mack was still in. Not something I'd do the first game of the season, without a preseason, without more chemistry, vs a team that is bottom 4 vs the run. It wasn't a mystery week 1 that they'd be bad vs the run. They were bottom 5 in the league last year too. And it's not like we haven't been without Mack before. Heck, we had Williams, a 4th string guy run for 100+ 2 games in a row last year when Mack was out. Wilkins is capable too. But we also had who many considered one of the best rooks in the league too.
    • Marketing, he is to graduate in December. He would end up doing a masters program id assume for the rest of his time
    • Yes.....but he is last. WR or no, the discourse by some around here is that he was a better option than Rivers. Do you think Rivers would be last if he were on the Patriots?
    • Given what he started with, and the level of QUALITY he's brought to every position BUT two, I'm giving him an A- and I think he's here for at least 3-4 more years. I like what he's done across the board. My concerns are the QB position, obviously, but I'm also concerned about the lack of ability when it comes to the WR position.  Yes, it can be said he's tried to address it, but after 3 tries now, 3 misses, i think its a glaring weakness in both Ballard and the scouting department.  Which isn't bad I supposed given he seems to be hitting on every other position. It may take us venturing into a trade or a big WR pick up to really bring that area up.
