I can never remember who played 3rd base when Grace, Sandberg, Dunston were in the infield. They had the twins in CF, the Dawson in right and can't remember the left fielder. Joe Girard was the catcher, I believe.

Besides Law, Ron Cey and Keith Moreland, Ryne Sandberg, Ken Reitz and Pat Tabler were Cubs 3rd Baseman of the 80s

I was talking late 80s, early 90s. Maddux, Mike Bielecki, Sutcliffe were there in addition to the others I mentioned earlier.

 

None of those names ring a bell.

Pat Tabler sounds familiar but I think I am thinking of another guy on another team with a similar name (Kapler).

 

Ron Cey was before my time of following baseball, I think.

Yes 

 Those guys were the 3rd Basemans from 1981-1989

My Dad taught and coached Gary during HS and my Dad and  I taught his relatives at PCHS

 

Damon was C for the Cubs then Braves

I pulled up the 1990 roster. The 3rd Baseman was Luis Salazar. I remember him well. 

 

I knew Mitch Williams had been a Cub. The Wild Thing.

Ah. Paul Assenmacher... Mike Harkey... Lloyd McClendon (I remember him more with the Pirates.)

 

Anyone remember when McClendon was so angry that he removed home base and walked back to the dugout with it. It was hilarious. Just the way he moved while walking back was funny.

 

Edit: it was 1st base.

Brewers up 7-0 tonight so Cubs will still be 1 game out of 1st at 40-39. BrewCrew will be 42-39. Jay's Cards won today, they beat the D-Backs 2 of 3, impressive.

Any memories of times in the ball park?

 

When I was growing up, baseball tickets were affordable. One year I went to about 20 games. I used to take my nephews and my niece. I also attended with some friends. A few times like on the 50th Anniversary of Jackie Robinson's integration of baseball, I went alone. (His wife Rachel Robinson and the President were there.)

 

In the year after the baseball strike, ball clubs were trying to win back the fans. Mets sold some tickets for $1 and gave out free food, IIRC. I loved that Mets team. They played NL ball. 

 

Anyway, in one of the early games that I attended that year, a few fans ran on to the field, spreading dollar bills all over the infield (about $150). The game had to be stopped momentarily to remove the guys and the bills. The fans were interviewed afterwards and shared that that was a message to what they saw as greedy ball players.

Poor base running at times mental lapses , Matheny staying with pitchers to long . Not warming up 2 relievers at a time in case one has a problem when trying to hold a lead and letting it get out of hand . Is that enough lol errors in the field. I'm no fan of his managing style.

I'm a fan of the game want to see it played right , if you lose that's fine , just don't beat yourself. A lot of times its vets making errors
