The playoffs

The Alabama and Washington game should be interesting, although I expect Alabama to win.  Washington is stout up the middle with their DTs, can Alabama get their inside running game going?

I expect the championship game to be Alabama vs Ohio State, the two best coaches in the college game.

I expect the Washington game to be very similar to the Bama/MSU game last year. I have a feeling mid-way through the 1st quarter Washington will get overwhelmed and it's going to get out of hand. Washington's defense may be ok early on, but that offense is going to struggle sustaining any drives and that defense will be gassed by the half. I'd be shocked if Bama doesn't win by at least 17.

I still believe the Pac-12 is soft football and will always struggle to match up with the big boys in the east,

As a Buckeye fan, I think our game with Clemson is going to be rough. Good passing QB's have given Ohio State fits, with Watson and his mobility, that's going to prove an even bigger challenge. However, I do like the speed of our defense and especially our secondary to match up against Leggett/Williams/Gallman. Seeing how VT played Clemson, which I believe we are far better on both sides, I think we can expose Clemson and force Watson into uncomfortable situations.

I believe this is a 50/50 game for either team. It wouldn't surprise me to see this game go in OT. I still expect a Buckeye win though.

Bama annhilates Washington bla bla bla....

Rematch of 2014 - Bama/OSU - Urban/Saban... I'm more than excited to hopefully see this happen again.

Prediction OSU 28 Bama 24

I have to see OSU's passing game go anywhere before they can challenge Bama or Clemson. Clemson may not have the team speed on D to limit QB run plays of OSU but Bama does. If they cannot pass accurately, this time Saban will crush Urban Meyer if Urban does get past Clemson somehow.

To me, Penn State's vertical passing game was fun to watch, their scrappy play could have given a lot of issues for the playoff teams, IMO, same thing with USC as well. I think the top 2 should get a bye and the playoffs should be expanded to 6 and not 8.

I'm not to worried about their passing game, they seem to get the plays they need at the right time. I will say the OL has to step up better than they have the last half of the season. The key factor in favor of Ohio State is their ability to force turnovers and not turn it over. Their turnover margin was #3 in FBS and it will more than likely be the reason to Ohio State winning, if they do. Their defense is just as good as Alabama's, and they didn't get to pad their stats against an FCS school either. Getting to play Michigan, whose defense is very comparable as well, was a great test for the offense leading up to the playoffs.

I had Ohio St winning tonight, man was I off on that but I had Bama so I broke even. Bama was the easy pick I suppose.

I had it the same as you.  Stunned the way OSU played, impressed with 94, 4 & 7 for Clemson.

I'm stunned at how bad OSU played. They didn't even show up.

Hopefully Urban see's how garbage Beck and Warinner are as play callers and moves on... The defense held on as long as they could but the offense and the play-calling wore them out. I guess this team is still a year away.

Congrats on the win and good luck to Bama. I'm looking forward to another excellent Championship game. Hopefully we - OSU - can have another rematch next year with Bama for the title.

The buckeyes will be fine I'm sure. They'll load up and get it figured out.

They're young and only had a handful of seniors on the entire team. I expect Hubbard and McMillan to declare, however I read earlier today Malik Hooker is going to announce for the draft as well. Even losing those guys they are still strong across the board, plus another great class coming in. As my previous post said, its time to move on from the offensive play-callers ( Warinner and Beck ). I can't express how much I miss Tom Herrman and what he did for this offense.

Sounds like you got your wish on Beck.

Hoping for Clemson, Deshaun deserves to go out on top after two Heisman finalists and losing last year.

I am as well. I thought he was the best player in CFB last year and should have gotten the Heisman over Derrick Henry. Hopefully, he can end his college career with a national title. I'm looking forward to watching him on Sundays.

    • Our defense will never be GREAT as long as we play * defense by having corners 10 yards off the ball on 3rd and 3. And an unbelievable unwillingness to blitz more than 4 times a game. And also, it doesn't matter who is in the secondary if the front seven can't stop the run(we can) and get to the passer(we did ok getting to the passer, but we need more blitzing from lb'ers). Our first pick should be an offensive lineman like Fuaga, Powers-Johnson, or Barton. Then target a receiver like Polk, Pearsall, Washington, Corley, or Roman Wilson in the second or third rounds. As much as I would like to get Bowers I just don't see it happening. And we need a very good linebacker to go along with Speed and Franklin.
    • Yeah, could very well be. I think I remember Ballard said he did it to have more flexibility when asked. if it is Paye, I would rather see him play out the year before extending.
    • The idea of DeJean going in the late first round is due to his instincts and overall very competent play in nearly all aspects of DB play.  Cover 3 FS is more valuable, IMO, than a cover 2 FS.   Contrast DeJean's overall RAS and talents with Hooker, who was only good at being a single high deep guy...especially his rookie year where he picked off bad QBs for a while...and DeJean at 22 or later with a 3rd round pick gathered from a trade down is a much better decision than Hooker was at 15.   BTW, Blackmon had the same ACL injury as Hooker and did well as an overall S as a rookie, but wasn't a single high speed guy, and is probably still a better overall S now than Hooker is in DAL...both having the exact same injury years ago.
    • To the bolded, I don't constantly hear that. I see people say it on the Internet. It was a big thing when we were looking for a HC, how candidates would be scared off because of how the Reich/Saturday thing went, Irsay's meddling, etc. One specific theory was Sirianni would tell Steichen not to take the Colts job. We see how that went.   Does Irsay's history negatively impact the team? I'd like to know if there's any examples where you think it has.
    • Some are not understanding this. Have a feeling there will be an upset group after Thursday night. Give AR every opportunity to succeed by surrounding him with weapons. If Pittman was to miss a few weeks, it would be bad. Tbh we should draft offense the 1st and 2nd rounds. Sign a Simmons and a vet corner.
