I'm not saying I'm ready to fire Pagano...

... but if I was, who would you guys say we should replace him with? Personally, I'm looking at both of Carolina's coordinators that somehow didn't get head coaching gigs for this season, plus Arizona's Offensive Coordinator Harold Goodwin (basically as close to Arians as we can get). So far, I'm not sold on any other names.

Something to consider- do we want an Offensive coach? Or defense? Or does that even matter?

What does everything think?

With a 4 year extension I doubt he's going anywhere anytime soon UNLESS this or next season becomes a total, total Disaster!

I say we might as well keep him until a elite coach becomes available. Someone like Harbaugh, Mayer etc....

That's exactly my logic as well. I'm no Pags fan, but I'd rather have the devil I know until something 'almost' guaranteed comes along.

The most interesting stat from that article...SLOW STARTS (tell us something all us fans don't see almost all the time)

"The Colts have trailed by at least 10 points in the first half in 27 games since 2012, tied for first with two dregs of NFL society: Jacksonville and Oakland."

I think most of us in fact do see these slow starts. However our defense at the time was at least decent enough to get the opposing team into 3 and outs. This season until we get healthy don't have the luxury of that.

Unless the Colts figure out how to avoid the SLOW STARTS... We may end up on top, in sole possession, of that awful statistic.

Both Oakland and Jacksonville seem much improved.

I'm just afraid if we lose Chuck, I'm going to have to work on a new signature. Yuck. Hmm, reminder to self to change that whole master defensive tactician thing...

Yeah Remedy that sig is pretty comedic right now.  Lol. Also kind of sad as its shows the high hopes Colts fans had that he would fix the defense. Hasn't happened...going now into year five.

I'm watching the Bills vs Jets. It still puzzles me until this day why we let Jerry Hughes go.

Jerry Hughes didn't do crap here while he was a colt. He also is on public record saying he wanted a fresh start. Sometimes players don't fit what you're trying to do. And he was a prime example.

I don't get the Arians love. I really dont. Matter of fact, even though we were winning and out performing expectations, many here were calling for Arians to be fired. Arians plays deep pass. His style gets QBs hurt, a lot. Yes he was a good head coach for us but I'm glad he's gone to be honest. For Luck's sake

WOW!  Yet some would still say we don't have a problem.  Smh

Wow, has it really been that long? Damn, but hey, now that he has a contract extension, it might be longer than that!

Those guys aren't going to become available anytime in the near future

I think Matt Patricia (Pats' defensive coordinator) could be a solid decision, but there is the issue of how very few Belichick disciples have had success away from New England.

I'd personally want us to find a defensive specialist.  Let Luck and the offensive coordinator do their thing and work things out.  Find a defensive specialist to be your head coach to really boost your defense.

Interesting note, we have a few guys on the current coaching staff who have had head coaching experience in Chud and Philbin.  If we were to fire Pagano today, it would likely be one of them (most likely Chud) to become the head coach

One game and people are talking coaching change. I think all the coaching changes in the off season haven't had a chance to play out yet. Everything's completely different. I was begging for some o-line help and we got it. Hopefully it pays off. Defense was going to be tough to start with. All of the injuries have me really hard to judge it. you can't play with no secondary.

The way the Bills have been playing this season it looks like Rex Ryan might be available next offseason. Just kidding. I am not ready to give up on Pagano quite yet this season. However, if I had to choose a candidate to replace him next season I would highly consider Teryl Austin DC for the Lions.

I don't care so much if he is an offensive minded HC or defensive minded HC nearly as much as I care if he is a good strategist and game manager. Chuck is a motivator HC. That's his best asset along with his ability to coach the Secondary. He however is a poor strategist. If I am a player in the NFL particularly a veteran I don't need motivated. Not looking like a fool on Sundays/Thursdays/Mondays plus winning and making money is all the motivation I need. What I want in a HC is the following

-Good strategist

-demanding yet fair

-Coach that holds players accountable instead of makes excuses or says they gave great effort. No tell me truthfully how I played and show me tangible ways I can get better

-Quick thinker

-Student of coaching. Always looking for ways to improve. Innovator

Doyel has an article in the local Star paper (I'm not sure you can post links here).

Basically calling Chuck a liability on game day if you want to read it.

He's definitely got some points you can't argue with even if you love Chuck.

If we were to replace Pagano at some point, I'd rather go for a proven head coach, no matter if in NFL or college. One guy I really like is Tom Herman from the college of Houston. I obviously also really like Jim Harbaugh who has numerous ties to coaching here.

I think after having Pagano as HC, and seeing how some coordinators just don't make it as a HC, I'd rather go with a safe proven HC who's getting it done at his current coaching job.

From all the threads that i'm reading about Pagano's performance as a head coach, he definitely needs to have a more aggressive approach to coaching.  He needs to develop players and hold them accountable instead of making excuses.  As far as replacement for Pagano, my choice would be Josh McDaniel.  I believe he's paid his dues with Denver as the head coach, and has gained valuable experience learning from the best....I think he will make a difference on the Colts team by  "Making Them Great Again......

I just wonder how much of last weeks slow start can be attributed to the fact that Luck hadn't played in a meaningful game since last Nov.

Possibly, that could be true . But seeing as this is something that has bin going on for years , with a lot of different oc I have some ideas .

Gruden will ask for the Moon

Harbaugh the same.

Saban will ask for Jupiter, he wants part ownership of the team.

Cowher, i don't like the idea of him spitting on your face when he's talking to you.

Logical choice: J McDaniel, won't cost the organization much. He's learned from his previous mistakes as a HC in Denver and a little younger and full of energy. As a bonus he's coached one of the greatest quarterbacks that's played the game. He's used to winning.  The other factor of course, he's been mentored by one of the best head coaches in the league. If this isn't enough resume', I don't know who else.

    • I would personally like to see more bootlegs, and more throws on the run. AR is SO good at that.   Especially since they love playing out of shotgun so much.

    • Once again running out time to put out a complete list of both offense and defensive players and where I have them ranked among their peers.  Common theme from original pre-college Week 1 many of the top players are not even listed or have fallen sharply after around 4 weeks of playing.    2025 NFL Draft QBs Cam Ward - Miami (FL) - Ward’s 3x300 games in a row have earned him 3-straight 90.0+ passing grades.  Jaxson Dart (MISS)  Diego Pavia (Vandy) - after 4 weeks and is R2 in the SEC ahead of Ewers, Manning, Milroe, Nussmeier, and Carson Beck.  Thrown 6 TDs no INTs, recovered 3 teammate fumbles. Ben Wooldridge (Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns) Noah Fiftia (Arizona)  KJ Jefferson (UCF) Tyler Shough (Louisville)  Cam Miller (NDST) Kyle McCord (Syracuse)   2025 NFL Draft OL LG Michael McAninch (Air Force) - After 3 weeks has a 91.7 overall season grade with a 92.4 RB grade.  Proved he can hold up to Baylor didn’t allow any QB pressure. RT Tyler Needham (Rutgers) 6’4” 306-pounds – After 3 weeks been dominant.  On 48 PB snaps only given up 1 QB hurry. LT/RT/OG Grey Zabel (North Dakota State) RT Lucas Scott (Army) 6’3” 305-pounds – After 3 weeks has an 85.2 RB grade.  Figure the Army trains more hand-to-hand combat and could be decent in PB game as well. LG Joshua Gray (Oregon State) LG Donovan Jackson (OSU) - good to see Jackson play again and display his dominance in his return to action. OT Wyatt Milum (West Virginia) RG Luke Kandra (Cincinnati) RG Tate Ratledge (Georgia LT Kelvin Banks Jr (Texas) LG Dylan Fairchild (Georgia) LT Percy Lewis (Auburn) 6’7” 355-pounds – After 4 weeks on 85 snaps has a 78.5 grade as a backup.
