Here is a clip of the final drive.

Watch the first play of the drive. Nobody covers the RB out of the backfield.

Completely inexcusable. Obviously, someone blew the assignment. But I blame Pagano.

nobody was assigned to cover the RB on that play.  the hope is that somebody can get out of their zone fast enough to stop the RB from getting a big play.  obviously it didnt happen, and we cant really expect it to happen with the talent we have but it wasnt a blown coverage

We lost this game back during the draft.  We did not improve our team when we knew we had to build the secondary. We have CBs that have 4 to 7 years of experience who can't cover.  They run with receivers and let them catch the ball then try to stop them. We can't tackle.  WE don't take our legs to the tackle.  WE just break down and reach. bear hug, slip tackle and let runners gain yardage-yardage-and yardage.  The last 40 seconds was pathetic but what about the other drives they had like their first drive?  #31 did what he could but you got to realize he had retired.  He is not the game saver, but the best we have.  Luck looks good but he needs help.  Protection was better but must improve and a few easy drops did not help.

He had a great year but the d was hardly dominating.

?? They lead the league in 2007 in points allowed. 3rd in yards allowed and 2nd in passing yards allowed. That was even after losing Freeney in week 9 or 10 against San Diego. That 2007 team was by far the best of the Manning era.

Yes the d failed the colts in the end. The same way the offense failed in the beginning. I for one thought colts played pretty well considering. They scored tds in the red zone, the big play ability of the wr is good. Relax everyone. The dbs that were out there were pretty much on the street at the beginning of the week.

I thought Robinson had a nice pass break up and I thought cromartie played well in the 2nd quarter.

Yes they lost but it was a nfc opponent they lost to.  I thought the oline did good.

Not surprised at all. Grigson drafting a 4-3 DE Werner in a 3-4 defense over Rhodes is when I finally realized that we had an awful GM. He's the reason we've been so bad defensively the past few years not Pagano. This is a bottom 5 roster defensively, not much Pagano can do.

Werner isn't a 43 end.

I am hoping when Davis, Geathers, Anderson and Jones come back the defense will go from terrible to slightly below average.  The only bright spot was Sio Moore imo.  He did play well but I think they stopped the Lions twice maybe three times all game.  Every other time they scored.  D'Qwell said they played like crap and that they will play better.  No time better then next week vs the defending champions right?

I found myself during the game feeling like the Quick passes were slowing down the pass rush as well.  It was 123 get the ball out.  Hard to get sacks against that.

Yep, that's how you're supposed to do it. I guess we aren't used to seeing it as much. Luck seems to be looking down field a lot.

While true, I remember a good handful of plays where defenders simply just whiffed on Stafford or were a second too late on their pressure.

...We we're down 5 starters and a nickel back on D don't you?...down 4 db's in a passing league against one of the better passing teams in the league is not a good recipe.

I agree to disagree, injuries are definitely a problem with this team obviously especially in the secondary. But come on, we were in position to make plays and just couldn't tackle even a high school team out there yesterday! The defense could have played bad and we still would have won. This defense played beyond bad, absolutely horrible performance! Against a mediocre team at best!

Teams have been doing that against the Colts for at least 2 years now.  Pass rush specialist is irrelevant because every team can run the quick stuff successfully.

With all these DBs getting injured and a need to bring in somebody who actually knows the defense I wonder if they have Djoun Smith on their minds now?  I'm sure he's healthy at this point.  Not sure if they can bring him in right now or not.  I mean Pagano did say
"We will see him again". Just had it on my mind, but not sure if it's even feasible.   Heck they might even need to call Tevin Mitchel back for a game as well.  All he had was a hamstring injury from that Bengals game.  Just thinking out loud here.

The Lions offense doesn't suck.  Stafford is a perennial 4,000 yard passer.  They have invested a lot of high picks on their offensive line.  And, their running backs are very elusive.  Combined with our banged up dline, our below average and old linebacking corp, and our decimated secondary, I can't say I was majorly surprised.  I was * as hell we lost by giving up a field goal the way we did.  I was more impressed by the offense we have finally put together,  Our dline and secondary, when healthy, are at least average.  We just need to get younger and draft high IQ, high effort, tough coverage linebackers and edge rushers next year.  LOL, I would say exclusively in next years draft 1st 4 rounds.

This should be concerning: D'Qwell Jackson, who played 51 defensive snaps yesterday, had 0 solo tackles and just 2 assists.

DQs play disappointed me. Was his worst game as a Colt. He seemed like he was a step slow. Maybe age is finally catching up to him. I hope not. He seemed very angry at himself and the defense.

aside from Sio Moore the LB's were almost invisible

and I'm glad they pulled McNary since he was abused on coverage (worse than the others)

Sio Moore had himself a game. Probably was the defenses best player yesterday. Surprisingly I thought Cole played decent too. Everyone else stunk.

Theo Riddick and Abdullah VS Colts slow butt linebackers.  Gee, I wonder why he got it out so quick?

But you know the funny thing is Dqwell for some reason plays the 1st game like garbage and then the rest of the year he's lights out.   Remember how he played against Buffalo last year in the opener?  Straight trash and then he balled out for the rest of the year.  Hopefully that's the case this time

Nobody in that front 7 had a good game with the exception of Moore and I cant wait till Davis is back so Robinson can be moved to the slot and then I would have him fight out against Rashaan Melvin who had a really good night week 1 in coverage but not so much against the run

Always looks like we are one (or two or three) steps slow on everything. It seem like we are so unprepared and end up reacting and chasing plays rather than making plays- has gone on for years now. Talent or coaching- I think both. We have no leading playmakers on D, no person to make the play when needed and we simply look out coached. I stopped counting the number of times the LB's looked out of position or late to catch up not to mention the complete lack of any impact from our DL. Of the DL who even made the stat sheet (Kerr, Parry, Langford, Ridgeway), they had a combined 1 solo tackles, 4 assists, 0 sacks

Maybe injuries made it worse than it was, but you can't blame that kind of poor performance completely on injury.
