New oline scheme talk

Recommended Posts

So for those of you who are oline related watchers, did we switch up to a ZBS vs the prior years of trying power man? I've seen remarks here and there about the oline but I've not seen anything dedicated to stay on topic about the oline. I couldn't really tell from watching it on a phone.

My my concerns have been, is Mewhort and Good more suited for power man scheme and less in the ZBS? Did we make a mistake by selecting tackles in the draft to play ZBS instead of getting a ZBS guard to compete with Good and Mewhort? I realize we have put some guys in at guard but I thought from most talk, they were better suited as tackles, not guard? Are we going to place square pegs back into round holes again and expect different results? Those are my concerns and I am not certain if they are valid or not. Thanks for your insight ahead of time.

I believe either Pagano or Joe confirmed that we switched to more of a zbs. I don't think good will have a problem because he's relatively quick on his feet (dancing bear is what pags calls him) Mewhort I'm a touch more worried about because he's pretty stiff but I think he could adapt but we will see

Lol, well pags also referred to some guy as a ball of rolling butcher knives once too and that turned out :Nuke:

No blocking scheme will matter if we can't set the edge. We tried and failed miserably multiple times during the game.

Common problem on a sloppy field. The line did their best work when moving forward, and struggled when trying to set/anchor. I wonder if maybe they didn't wear the right cleats.

Surely we started what should contend to be the Least athletic line in the NFL.

A few here can grasp the limitations this will cause for our run options, and our Pass protection.
It is going to be interesting. Go Colts!

I read fairly recently that the Colts have one of the top 5 most athletic offensive lines.

I think Mewhort will be ok. He's not the most nimble lineman, but I think he's athletic and long enough physically and has the awareness mentally to make up for it. Zone scheme blocking will also probably call for him to have to pull a little less, on the bright side.

Don't know enough about Good to say.
