A very different mock that takes a few chances.

Recommended Posts

Here is a mock that begins by explaining what Grigson meant by the team becoming more comfortable with previously red flagged players. The Colts trade down in the first round a couple of spots with the Jets and get an additional 4th rounder.

1. Robert Nkemdiche, DT. Interior pass rusher. Would start out as a situational DT, with all kinds of talent, etc. More than one way to generate a pass rush. This guy proves that theory. He may be the most talented DT in the draft. He has the obvious red flags, but as Grigson said, they have gotten more comfortable with some of these guys. Grigson rolls the dice; cross your fingers.

2.  Darian Thompson, FS.  Adams' replacement and a top notch center fielder.

3.  Isaac Seumalo, G. This guy is talented, and can play all along the line. HIs best slots are G and C.

4 Yannick Ngakoue, OLB.  Untapped potential. He's the best mid round pass rushing prospect out there.

4.. Jack Allen, C. The starting Center for the Colts next year. Not Ryan Kelly, but solid and dependable and a definite upgrade from Holmes and Harrison.

5. Joe Schobert, ILB.  Another tough, smart Wisconsin LB. I like this guy; a tackling machine with brains and room to grow.

7.  Cody Core, WR.  A somewhat raw WR to develop. He can play; he's tall; and he's very fast. The Colts need a 5th WR. Here he is.

The Colts pick up some serious talent here. They need game changing players. They get some with this draft.

Not a fan of 1 or 2.

I like your 3rd and 5th round picks. It will be interesting to see if Schobert kicks inside with a 3-4 team. It might be a good fit for him. Seumalo improves the offensive line.

I like Allen but do not believe he is the right fit for us. He needs to go to a power team, and may have served us well the past 4 seasons. I want a more athletic center.

Yannick is an interesting prospect. It will be interesting to see where he actually gets drafted.

I do not know much about Cody Core.

Got it. I was having some fun with the Grigson comment about some red flags having disappeared on certain players. Nkemdiche is one of those guys nobody really discusses. One of the most unpredictable picks in Round 1. All world talent but concerns about his off field incident. A pass rush from the front 3 would be something different for this team. As for pick 2, so many people mock a SS to the Colts when choosing a safety. This guy is a center fielder, as I said. He has the tools to be very very good.

Appreciate the comments.

1- I like

2.To early for me (This is where I'd take Fackrell)

3.I like but to early for me, I'd go with Hassan Ridgeway

4.As a situational pass rusher I like him early on. Terrible against the run

4.Pass...Seumalo would be here for me

5.Schobert missed a lot of tackles over the last 2 years. He is solid in coverage though. Lacks elite athleticism I like from my ILB's. Would not be my first choice but I'd be alright with the pick

7.I have no idea who he is but I did read of a Cody Gore if this is him http://www.capitalgazette.com/news/breaking_news/

I can see Grigs pulling this one, but would the dude be there in the 2nd is my question, if so I'd rather take the risk there than in the 1st.

Big risk at the top, but when I first watched Nkemdiche, I was convinced he was a top five guy in this year's draft. I hadn't watched Buckner yet, and I still had Jack down in the 30-40 range, but based on his ability and potential, Nkemdiche is an outstanding prospect.

Then some reports about him being a 'weird' started coming out. Then he fell out of a window and was suspended for the bowl game.

On talent alone, getting him at #18 is a steal. I don't see Grigson taking the risk, though. There are too many other really good prospects that don't have the question marks, and this regime has already been undermined by too many failed decisions.

    • Bad analogy.  These rankings come out and can change week to week.  That’s why they do it.  No one scores elite grades every week.  They are number one right now.  The season just started.  Why is that so hard to understand?  I swear.
    • Yes, but the element of Richardson running more in the latter quarter also contributed to the Colts ability to run it with success
    • Totally agree. Now if Richardson is like throwing below 50% by the end of the season. Then maybe we have a case to worry. I really compare his career to Allen and I think of Richardson as an  Allen on steroids lol. They have very similar physical makeups but Richardson may have a stronger arm and is much faster. Allan has him in the build department.  Allan's rookie season was really rocky and if you look back. It really almost took 2 years till you started to see it. I just think fans need to be very patient as I think Richardson was even more raw than Allen coming out. You see the rawness but I also see the composure and making some good reasons. Yes, he throws picks but all rookie qbs do. Hell, I remember even Luck making the most ridiculous throws that resulted in interceptions. Just sit back and get your popcorn as this is going to be like a roller coaster. I really thought when people said playoffs. I was like.................really??
    • The Bears knew exactly what the Colts were going to do on their last drive.   That's what my post was was about.   Maybe you quoted the wrong post?
    • They are playing a sub par qb, Oline and a running game that averages like 4 yards.  The Bears actually scared me more on offense because at least they have the potential to break it open. Fields is a bad qb (passer) and just keep him in the pocket and make him play qb. Keep everything inside and the defense should be successful. Turnovers and field position is going to be huge in this game. No going for it on 4th down and punt the ball. I think this is going to be an ugly game lol.
